A top5 player losing 3 times in a row to Goerges, including on hardcourts  Only Goerges's second top 20 win on HCs in the entire last 12 months (the other being against Jankovic in Toronto), so it's not exactly like she's one of the WTA's leading upset artists.

The fall continueth for Wozniacka.

She had a great match in QF, she knows how to play (and beat) Caroline. No surprises here.

Thrilled for Julia, you can tell it meant a lot. Up and down tennis throughout but she landed the forehands when she needed to. Some of her winners were just

Wozniacki is an abomination. She's got the worst forehand of any WTA #1 in history, with gamesmanship and a spoiled brat attitude to boot.

Good luck in the final, Jules! :yeah:

well, Julia played a bad match but no reason to complain, Dubai final and a win against Woz!
But Woz was just awful, all depended on Julia, no weapons, nothing and good to see that Julia is able to win such matches even when she plays not really great, surprised that she came back from 2-4 in 2nd set after she wasted many chances before :D

well, I don´t expect anything against Aga, Julia looks tired and Radwanska is much tougher player for Julia than Woz but well, can´t be worse than in Melbourne and Dubai final for Julia is just amazing!

NID. Coming into the match you knew who was gonna win. Same as the USO semifinal or the AO QF. It always mattered how quickly the opponent can finish Caro off or complicate it for herself. This tournament Goerges is another league than the rest of the field, even though she wasnt as good today as yesterday. Little ups and downs but she is still the best in DUbai this week

I watched like 5 games from the end of first set till beginning of second set, and it was an epic mess. Wozniacki shanking every 3rd forehand, mishitting smashes and serves. I am smelling a huge slump; now that her confidence is hit, the forehand is likely to slip further without radical intervention.

Hype was routinely missing moonballs on her joke backhand.

This was one of rare, very rare opportunities where Wozniacki handed the win to her opponent on the plate. It seemed like a typical match from uber-pushing version of Wozniacki: completely letting her opponent dictate the play, and when she gets tight, Wozniacki hits one or two winners to add more pressure. However, her plan fell apart when she played terrible in tiebreak. Maybe Goerges got into her head. Goerges was killing her with moonballs+bombastic FH combo.

Goerges clearly has a plan how to deal with her, and while she didn't play great, she got the job done. I didn't think she would be patient enough when she failed to serve it out in the first set.

Good luck in the final!

I'm sorry but that's not true. Julia is absolutely a nightmare of a match-up for Wozniacki. All of Wozniacki's groundstrokes are in the perfect ballstriking zone for Goerges, and not to mention Goerges favours the heavy topspin FH wing from most positions - something Wozniacki does not deal with very well.

She also looks tired, she will lose if Wozniacki can take the 3rd set but she can only blame herself (once again) for it then
:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

After winning the ticket for her 2nd appearance in a final at a Premier Level event and winning $ 240K+ in prize money this week, Julia pushed her highest ranking points total during a 52-weeks period from 2,715 (after Wimbledon 2011) to 2,725 ranking points. She will match her career high # 16 (as of 6/06/11) next Monday.

Must be very embarrassing for the former # 1 to be taken out from such a horrifying player for the third time in a row:

SF 2,000K Dubai 2012: Julia Görges def [3]Caroline Wozniacki 76(3) 75
QF PM Madrid 2011: Julia Görges def [1]Caroline Wozniacki 64 16 63
F 721K Stuttgart 2011: Julia Görges def [1]Caroline Wozniacki 76(3) 63

Goerges' Forehand is always a thrill to watch. This match, however, is horrendous on many levels. Both players had hit tons of UEs, although Goerges was the one who raised level at the end of the match. Wozniacki played very unlike her old-self, making many uncharacteristic UEs, some of those are facepalm-worthy .

As much as I am happy to see Goerges won but my prediction for the final, however, is Radwanska to take the title.

I don't really understand the posters in here saying that Julia is horrendous or awful. I think she is mainly very streaky. She can play extremely well or be quite off in her game. I don't consider that to be an awful player though. She hit so many great shots yesterday and today too against tough players so I don't think one can claim she is awful and do so with any logic or common sense.

dsanders06

I often cringe when I see people say "it was on [a player]'s racquet", but it really was so true for this match. Wozniacki only won games when Goerges was on one of her error binges; whenever Goerges's forehand was clicking, Wozniacki was helpless. You can bet all the other players in the locker-room noticed how much Wozniacki's backhand struggles against moonballs and will be trying to employ that tactic in future matches, too.

I still don't think much of Goerges's game (it's one thing teeing off on Wozniacki's puffballs, it's quite another when she doesn't have time to do it off the flatter shots of most of the top 10), but I'm impressed by her attitude for sure. You don't see that level of intensity from most non-top 10 players when going up against players who are so hard to break mentally like Woz.

as I said yesterday, any inform top30 player could have won except VIP. Well, Görges was able without being inform.

as I said last week, please get pregnant and retire if you cant do anything useful on court or on prectice courts. You are heading towards oblivion if cant change trends.

imo, Queen Viktória trashing her could have been much better on long term, since thats more harsher reality check than losing to Hypeges.

Görges did that last year in Stuttgart. That would require other coaches actually bothering with film. I have no idea, if Ana is capable of a topspin backhand, but that´s exactly how she should play Wozniacki; and without the dozen double faults. I can´t believe some players toss DFs, when Wozniacki "threatens" by stepping into the court on 2nd serve, like anything is ever going to happen.

sammy01
Feb 24th, 2012, 04:52 PM
this match was LOL. any notion that caro has any sort of tactics or thinks on court are all quashed the moment she steps on court against julia. cus while other players may make caro look like some tactical genius when she loops up forehands and they have no idea what to do with them, julia says thanks very much that is my favourite shot. the worse part is it isn't like this would be a surprise, caro has played and lost to julia twice last year, just proof caro has 1 way of playing and is as brainless and 1 dimensional as any ball basher.

as for julia her backhand is horrible and her long winding take backs on both sides would leave her so vunerable when she is rushed or the ball is low. but when you play caro you don't get rushed or low balls.

i actually think julia is pretty mentally weak too, the towel thing at the start, questioning every close call, the tightness of the score when julia couldn't ask for an nicer opposition to play into her hands. not that that matters because her game so perfectly fits beating woz she can do it whilst not being very mentally strong or playing well.

tbh this match sums up all that is wrong with womens tennis, one girl only capable of running and has no plan b, the other bashing with no plan b. julia should just thank her lucky stars caro is incapable of doing anything bar hitting into julia's strike zone.

As expected, Goerges at 50% is still enough to snatch Pusher's wig. She obviously never learns. Still at it with the pushing and gamesmanship

Right now Pushniacki is slumping hard and so irrelevant on the tour that I really don't feel like commenting further on this result. At the moment, any top 50 player when playing well can beat the Wozzer. Expect more of such losses to come.

If she can raise her level like that on clay she'll be one of the contenders for RG.

I am quite shocked reading some of the comments here.

Goerges played an awful match, making a lot of unforced errors, balanced somehow by her winners. It's not like she played like a champion, and I preferred her in her match against Hantuchova yesterday.

But it was enough to beat Caroline. I have the feeling she will be always a good Top 10 player, but nothing more.
Good luck Julia against Radwanska. ;)

BIG CONGRATULATIONS JULIA FOR THIS G8 OUTCOME OF A G8 FIGHT !
esp when getting the rbrk in 2nd set at *1-0 up I thought it was over. Think again.

And I judge it was much closer for Julia than the result affects and some in here want to proliferate. Caro was very error-prone in the tbrk which ended 7-3 again, a score that was somehow oracular good for Jule ;)
Even if Caro didn't show her full repertoire of tenacity and missed some endurance while leading *4-2 it was a good match from her. Jule was very close to losing it in this situation in 2nd but regained confidence with a classy attitude which Sascha demanded from her in his 2nd coaching minutes

Oh Caro ... I had to go to work after the first set but the first set was messy. Julia is a bad match up for Caro and clearly Piotr isn't giving her good tactics because Goerges always plays the same moonballs tactic, yet Caro seems unable to either hit them deep enough or lower the ball to avoid the easy ball Julia is waiting for. Good thing was watching her hit her first winner of the match set point down, nevertheless she played shitastic in the tie break to blow all the hard work.

En fin... fix that forehand or you are going nowhere. Now watch Julia lose to Aga :o:facepalm:

If he really did say that then I feel really sorry for Caroline. No wonder she is not improving and is low in confidence when there is such a jerk in her camp. She needs to get rid of him ASAP.

Anyways, I am really happy for Julia. She played pretty well today. Many UEs, but balanced it with a big amount of winners as well. The occasional loopy ball also gave Wozniacki a hard time. It really seemed like she had a certain game plan today. The final should be interesting.

You are standing here like a piece of meat that wants to do something but doesn't know what. (showing with his finger) Why didn't you hit that ball? Because you didn't see it.
Caro: I did see it
Piotr: Don't discuss with me now. This is a complete bullshit/rubbish. Now I will tel you what to do: while serving watch the ball, with new balls go lower on your legs, stand on baseline. She is not running, she is playing you high with backhand. And why you are doing? You are not hitting the ball harder. At her second serve you have to cover the ball (umpire saying time) hit it,and you are (showing it to Caro ) here and here, you are nowhere. Understand? you are nowhere. The racket low, hit with spin, close with elbow. Oh and Carolina, did you play backhand down the line? This is really laughable/pathetic. fuck...

Well done Julia , I'll be rooting for Aga in the final but wouldn't be disappointed if she came out on top too, would love to see her break the top 10 this year :)

As for Woz , I'm still happy with a semi-final since it's her first since the USO. She's obviously struggling with confidence and her form so I'm grateful for every win she gets at the moment, here's hoping she manages to have respectable results in the American hard court swing.

I fear that even if Caroline were to attempt to split with Piotr, it could get really emotional/physical with him. I am talking restraining order type of stuff. He has her by the strings and she is afraid to snip them.

It's kinda odd but all this hate toward Caro is turning me into a fan of hers. Considering Gorgeous beat her twice before u had to figure she was coming into the match w.belief and considering it's The Great Wozs first SF of the year this result isn't all that shocking.

Yeah the Dane is going to have to make changes and work hard but it's totally w.in her capabilities to continue to have success. I wouldn't be so dismissive of her at this point. Sure shes struggling right now but ig Agy can have the success she's currently having I don't see why Caro can't rebound. Slams and the number one ranking might not be realistic at this point but she's young. The Pheonix will rise again- and now she's got a new fan cheering her on.

I dont see the on court coaching as a big deal either way. Caroline had plenty of chances. She served 4-2 in set 2. Hold and its 5-2 and you're probably looking at set 3. But get broken and you're on serve and a set down. She's got to hold serve in pressure situations. It doesnt matter if Julia hits the line, win the next point.
Her serve and whole service game need a ton of work

A top5 player losing 3 times in a row to Goerges, including on hardcourts  Only Goerges's second top 20 win on HCs in the entire last 12 months (the other being against Jankovic in Toronto), so it's not exactly like she's one of the WTA's leading upset artists.

The fall continueth for Wozniacka.

Serena lost 2 times in a row with Bammer, Venus 3 times in a row with Pironkova and so on...

Neither player were any good. The least worst won.

To think what the final line up is, is just very depressing. I thought 2012 was going to be better but it's getting worse. This is what you get when the top players don't play. I could go on comparing to Dubais of years before but what's the point. Both semis were dire from all 4 players. God help these girls if we ever get really top players who decide to play.

With the absence of the top three, this event was Caroline's chance to put recent disappointments behind her and pull rank over the players immediately ranked behind her; but with this result, Caroline has demonstrated her continuing vulnerability and that her top four ranking is no longer safe. Radwanska is clearly gunning for this title and with it, the top 5 ranking, after Stosur's early defeat. Aga will also move up on Caroline's top four ranking and will be smelling blood. Caroline really needs to pull herself out of the doldrums in Indian Wells and Miami, because she is unlikely to make up points on clay courts where she is not at home. But at the moment, it is clear that Caroline does not have the consistency that she had a year ago and now is getting regularly beaten by anyone with reasonable form in the top 20.

Goerges - great tournament and completely out of the blue. One of her best ever results on hard courts, maybe the Olympic competition from the likes of Kerber has concentrated her mind. Good for her and well-timed turnaround of form in time for the imminent clay season.

But what Wozniacki fans here still fail to understand, I can't/couldn't defend her anymore as I still spot no improvements in her game ( at my side, I think it's getting shittier with the weeks and months ). Been the 1st and maybe only that put off my blind Wozniacki glasses and face the reality about Wozniacki's run of affairs. I also am very disappointed how she takes her tennis since 10 months : she gives me the feeling she hasn't tennis as priority anymore and I think it's very unprofessional. Her only priority, I think : It's Rory McIlroy. Her behavior on court is getting sillier and sillier.

She needs someone who will wake up Caroline from her lethargy ( Her father is the complete wrong solution ) because keeping on the path where she is since 10 months, she's slowly but surely destroying her career. I'm just expecting and demanding much more and that's pretty normal when you tell to the press you want to achieve big things. In 2010 especially the 2nd part, I was a very pleased Wozniacki fan but after in 2011 and especially since April of last year she can't stop of going backwards. And doesn't show the mentality of a true champion.

Just my two cents.

I wasn't pretending, you ( censored ) ! I repeat, I don't want anymore to take part to your fables and deluded talks that you keep telling about Caroline Wozniacki. Never heard of Bene Amat, Bene Castigat ? Well you should start to learn it. Too much ? Just because I stated facts and I warned for months what would happen and guess what ? I was RIGHT !

I always die of laughter when you do this. :sobbing: And it's understandable people find this suspicious. Late 2010 (coincidentally Wozniacki's peak) you were one of the biggest Woz fanboys on the forum, now you suddenly are in Vika's subforum and have her in your avatar after she wins a grand slam. I recall you being in Vika's subforum for a short and controverial while somewhere in 2010 I think, which included you calling the birth name of one Vikaland's most frequent posters retarded. Which was followed by a massive FY by us other Vika fans towards you and you haven't posted in Vikaland again up until she won AO IIRC. Even late last year when Wozniacki was already showing signs of decline, you were still not fanboying Vika like you do now so it's suspicious that you're suddenly so outspoken of being a fan of hers now.

When you don't know what you are talking about : pls go to the Azarenka sub forum and seek when I first posted messages there : 2010... But yet again I'm a fake, a band wagoner If you still can't understand that I can't defend her anymore : that's your problem ! People would say " Finally he saw some lights about Caroline " but all you do guy is defaming and I'm happy I can at least make you laugh... And for your information, Victoria Azarenka has been in my signature since a long time : stop making a fool of yourself and pretending you know best when it's not the case ! Time for me to put you on ignore, you don't deserve better. Again another who's maybe 10 years younger than me and come to teach me some loyalty : you cannot be serious. I've posted loads of Azarenka results on my Facebook but hey you can't know it so : again, you are a fool. IGNORE LIST ! Enjoy !
