They will still play Indian Wells. This tournament is a back-up if they lose early at IW. It's a 45 minute flight from Nassau to Miami and they'll be relaxing at a 5-star resort on the beach in between matches.

As of now, the MD cut-off for this event is #85  I hope the organization is better than last year though. A lot of the players were not happy when they posted on Twitter during that event. Apparently getting basic things like new balls to practice and cold water was a huge ordeal.

This tournament has a deeper field than the Tier IVs of the last couple of weeks

Mona is like a mini-Woz--having to play every tournament :o

Bahamas should probably become tour level next year.

Not at the same dates they can't.
That's why it's popular
They can't have it after Miami cos it's clay time.

For lazy girls who want to play an extra tournament while Indian Wells goes into the second week without them.

If there was ever a place to slog it on the ITF tour, I think Bahamas is a good choice!

Is there any specific reason why there are no other WTA events the same weeks as the PM tournaments? I don't see why they couldn't have international level tournaments in the second weeks of IW and Miami, unless of course there is a prior agreement to give the Mandatory tournaments sole precidence those weeks! :)

Only players who lose in R1 or qualifying in Indian Wells are allowed to play here. Or players who lose their R2 match on Friday before 3pm (Indian Wells time).

Tsurenko (125) not even in qualies :haha:

Will probably be enough for the MD. Initial list was similar last year. In the end there were bunch of non top 100 players in the MD and 14 byes in the qualifying draw.

There was a press release near the end of last year saying Tennis Channel would be showing the tournament. Hopefully it's still happening!

so they stay in a 5 star hotel for free and are still complaining?

The tournament site is away from the hotel though -- that was their big gripe, which I can understand. They're in Nassau to play tennis. It doesn't matter if the hotel is nice if the tournament organizers had no clue what to do. That being said, it was the first year of the event last year and there are always kinks to work out initially, so hopefully they can do better with that this year.

She would :oh: But as Meelis said she would have to lose her first match and be scheduled early.

There's no way it will stay that strong. I wouldn't even be surprised if Tsurenko even made the MD. And last year's q-draw was filled with BYEs, IIRC.

Based on current form, you'd have to venture a guess that the top-three seeds, plus Halep and Zakopalova have a good chance of making the second week at IW while quite a few (Strycova, Rodionova, Hlavackova, Shvedova et al) will go quite deep in doubles.

Like I said, itīs not even second week, but players must be out of IW before 3pm on Friday or they will be automatically withdrawn.

itīs a smart move IMO
they will be excluded from entry list when they still in IW-Draw
so itīs not a big deal to enter

They can have it before Indian Wells. Acapulco should be a week after Bogota.
The Bahamas should be upgraded to an international tournament with Monterrey, in the week before Indian Wells.
Kuala Lumpur should be the week of Paris.
Pattaya City should be moved back to the fall Asian swing, as it was 10 years ago when Patty Schynder played and won it.
And I honestly think that Amelia Island can be made a 100K, the second week of Miami.

Only nine top 100 players this year.

No time for the Bahamas. JJ expected to win Indian Wells on her way back to the top 5. Only food-poisoning, jetlag, being wasted from players party and a future superstar like Jessica Clampton could stop her. :cheer:
