Also, how long has she been struggling with that ball toss? It's been years, hasn't it? Too many UEs/poor choices on important points.

Novic despite her mental issues, trying to overpower the Dane with her mediocre power -- no lift, very little angles --

I almost have the impression that Ivanovic should rally much more (confidently) with her backhand when facing pushers/..., at least it has more variety and could/can put the Dane much more out of position than her one-dimensional flat forehand which has lost most of it's striking force anyways.

As for Wozanicki :spit: I think Piotr has just invented the first 'hybrid pusher' ; can't even push anymore with minimum unforced errors from one side to another she turns pusher then ball-basher...

That was the Federer we were waiting for. :hatoff:

Oh well, it was entertaining. Some really good rallies, but most of them ended with Ana's UE.

C'mon Jelena, save the tournament.

Good drama! Congratulations Caroline.

Ana honestly didn't look horrendous at some junctures. She just needs to put these together into some consistent play. I did see flashes of 2008 in there.

What's concerning for both girls is that:

1) Their weaknesses were exploited so easily by the other that everyone watching this match would know what to do against them.

2) That many consecutive service breaks for two former world number ones is just awful.

Caroline's got to defend against the short angle better. Ana's backhand when she managed to hit through and create an angle really gave her a LOT of trouble.

And, as always, Ana looks like she needs a therapist. But it just looks less dire. The matches against Kvitova and Wozniacki show that she has a way to go, but she's not nearly in the kind of dire straits I thought she would be in. Plus, her results this year at this point compared to last year are significantly better. Here's to hoping she can defend her Indian Wells and Miami points.

something is sure:

1) Ana Ivanovic will never get back to top10 nor win another slam

2) Caroline Wozniacki will NEVER win a slam with such a game.

to resume VERY DISGUSTING MATCH especially Ivanovic (stats 51 UES and 9 DFS!!)

Possibly Daniela could win, but I think they are both chanceless against Wozniacki. I don't understand how you can say that she doesn't do anything well. She is rallying so strong on almost every point.

It's sad to see how much Ivanovic has diminished mentally. It was so sad to watch some of those ball tosses in the 4-4 and 5-5 games and rushing through these crucial points without thinking things through.

It's sad that Ivanovic can't sustain a high level for more than 3 points in a row. As soon as Ivanovic is put in a pressure situation, she ain't doing shit. If Ivanovic can just keep her head straight for like 1 second, she is by far the more dominant player. Bring me back to the old days. :sobbing:

Kaman was consistent as per usual. Ridiculous how much Ivanovic let her get away with. Hoping Dani or Goerges will finish her off.

Chanceless? Youve got to be kidding. Blocked the French Open from your memory, have you? ;)

Point is Caro is far from her "best" right now which was being extremely consistent and tough to break. I am seeing neither of that in her. Wait until she faces someone who is on that day.

Forehand is a mess, as usual but she got the tactics right. 80% of shots to Ana's backhand plus Ana's weak serve could only mean a win for Woz.

You are right, chanceless is too strong of a word. Let's just say I think Caro will win. I think that she is starting to play better again, with a new energy and a will to prove her doubters wrong. She is not the target anymore and can fly a little bit more under the radar.

Pathetic play from both :o

I'm always trying to find any improvement in Wozniacki's game. Unfortunately, she is not changing anything at all. Once again I saw her opponent losing the match rather than Wozniacki winning it. It's sad because she was much more aggressive in 2009 or so. She will never be a power player, but she is more than capable to create sharper angles and take the ball earlier.

Ana is on good road and I expecting of hers already in Indian Wells better result than this solid QF. With this level of game she will be player to beat during claycourt season because it's impossible to push her so much on BH side on that surface (she have enough time to regroup and much more to use hers monster FH).

Congrats to Wozz on hers best win this season so far.

I don't know what kind of magical "changes" everyone is expecting from Caro all the time. A new flat forehand? You can not just change your game. Caro was being aggressive in this match, in her way. But when you play a player like Ana, well, it would be foolish if Caro didn't allow for Ana's errors to come.

Ana is just too up and down  She'll have really good points but then all of a sudden she'll make horrible errors. She also starts to rush when she's nervous, which never helps. If Ana can just figure out how to be a bit more steady out there she could win matches like this  I'm just glad this wasn't a beatdown :p

WHAT A SHITFEST! :help:

This was the worst I've seen Ivanovic play. She is not back. After first half of 2008 she was NEVER back and NEVER will be. She cant toss a tennis ball, she makes more DFs than Dementieva at her worst, she cant hit a backhand, her forehand lost like 90% of the pace it had in 2005-2007, she is moving badly.

Wozniacki on the other hand was playing the same bad tennis she always does. The great backhand she has showed up only a couple of times. Sometimes she hit ridiculous errors even off this wing. Her forehand is laughable and it looks worse and worse. She hit so many bad unforced errors it was not even funny.

R.I.P. the game of tennis. This was probably the worst match of former No.1s ever. Awful quality, errors after erros.

Ivanovic should retire. Wozniacki should be taking advantage of this weak WTA tour as long as possible and she can earn some good money playing so...just getting the ball back, hitting great BH winners when some stupid players hit to this wing, and hitting those terrible forehand errors.

There are some players this forum is overhyped about that they are back but Ivanovic, Jankovic, Stosur, Schiavone, Lisicki are not back and never will be. They are playing terribly. And some good results are just pure luck.

You say this after watching this match? Are you serious? Ana hit 60 UEs = 51 off her FH and BH and 9 DFs, Wozniacki was just pushing the balls back and herself made almost twice as many errors as winners.. And you think Ana is on the right track? You must be the most optimistic person ever..or a little naive too

Im afraid we even lost the Big Guns.. Serena is not playing well, hasnt been playing well since the USO final. Kim is not playing. And when she is, she is far from her best. No Justine, Amelie, Davenport..no one.

Azarenka plays well, Kvitova makes many errors but is winning. Sharapova..is Sharapova, will never be the same 07-08 again.

couldnt agree more and I would add that Im a little bit surprised about all the (false) hype Ivanovic could still get after such an awful performance

I honestly didn't think this match was THAT bad from Ivanovic. It wasn't very good, to be sure, but I've seen much, much worse from her. Despite the huge number of errors (many of which came after fairly long rallies), she forced quite a few Wozniacki errors and hit quite a few glorious winners. I think the most encouraging part about her match was that, after all the horrific service games in that second set, she kept managing to break back (at least until the last Wozniacki service game). How many times in the past has she simply given up after one or two bad games?

Ajde Ana you can do it

I know your Serbian. But with all do respect, what match were you watching?

Ana blew open court forehand shots in this match, as well as backhands, along with the numerous double faults she had.

You don't get 51 unforced errors all of the back hand (even if you minus 9 from double faults).

Every time Ana had a chance to even up this match or go ahead in the second set, she mentally checked out. It became so predictable. The problem is, you can't win the match being behind. You have to be ahead. Lol.

Yes, she's had better results and play at the start of this year. And it's better than her worst days of the recent past. But the jury's still out, whether this is the precursor of something great for Ana?

I hope it is! :) :)

As for Woz's determination - this match was actually abysmal from both. Ana looked completely lost and miserable, while Woz looked quite scared and insecure, as if she expected Ana to start plummeting her with winners any moment and send her back to Poland Denmark. This wasn't the confident Woz of the last two years. They both looked as if they expected to lose.

Ana looked completely lost and miserable, while Woz looked quite scared and insecure, as if she expected Ana to start plummeting her with winners any moment and send her back to Poland Denmark. This wasn't the confident Woz of the last two years. They both looked as if they expected to lose.

Hey does anyone have this graphic? I haven't seen it.

As I see the statistics still no improvement whatsoever with the Danish Delight... Hitting only 12 winners and hitting more than the double of UE... With 51 UE, you never can win a match Ana, never in a lifetime... With such stats against player like Kvitova, Clijsters and maybe Azarenka, Wozniacki has no chance. Just saying.

Thank you. You're very perceptive. ;)

Ana :spit: over 50 unforced errors  I thought wozniacki did well actually for once, held it all together and hit some nice backhands down the line.

Yeah, that's more than 2 per every game, which means Caro started every game with head start of 30:00 or 40:00 :spit: :help:

Good win, Caroline! :worship:

Caro played well in 1st set, then got too passive in 2nd set. But survived ;)

Enjoyed the match, many interesting rallies. And Caro looked :hearts:

Since the 2010 IW Final, Serbia has gone a combined 0-7 vs. Wozniacki; with one set won along the way.

quite an achievement.

I can't believe how shaky Ana was at the end of the second set. Her serve is everywhere, she panics and hits wild brainless shots.

How the hell did she win a slam with that head?

Where is all the self-confidence? She should not lose to Wozniacki! It's only mentally... :(

..

Where is all the self-confidence? She should not lose to Wozniacki! It's only mentally... :(Wozniacki has a winning h2h with Azarenka, Kvitova, Radwanska, post surgery (2009-current) Sharapova and 100's of other players. Not so easy to beat.

Yeah, because this "inferior" player once beat Ana in straight with one leg. :tape:
