View Full Version : Dubai QF: Radwanska annihilates Lisicki 6-2 6-1

Poor Bine, crying at 2-6 0-5*...she was completely clueless today - no game plan against patient players like Radwanska at all, and just hit errors left and right, mentally checked out (That under-the-net shot pretty much sums up the match and her career)

Rock solid for Aga (7 UEs in the match). Good luck against JJ. Should be a good match
Aga forgot she played against Jankovic last year in Tokyo :o

Lisicki needs a break. :help:

She might be a little sick, but that is not the problem she has at the moment which is lack of confidence. That was really dreadful today. And Radwanska was so harmless actually...

Instead of crying, Sabine should maybe try to get PISSED and slam some rackets. She shouldn't just accept that she is playing this bad.

Radwanska is a very focused and mentally strong player. Of course she is a nightmare opponent when you are having a bad day.

Aga played very well at the beginning, getting first 16 first serves in , returning well, and using Bine's power to redirect. That was the only time the match was kinda competitive though. After those few games, Bine imploded and Aga got back to doing nothing.

Lisicki needs to hire a professional team with a real coach and a sports psychologist. Easiest solution to bang her head into form would be Demekhine. It worked for Zvonareva.

What's the excuses this time? Not interested in it Sabine. Also I'm over the whole crying thing. Plenty of other people with more reason to cry than just losing a tennis match. it is kind of sad, but good for aga, that she has been able to basically build a career on having soft hands. so many times she isn't really in position (even on normal rallying shots) but softens her hands up to make sure she makes the ball in court, 99% of the other girls on tour are garenteed to miss when slightly out of position or too close to the ball.

lisicki is kind of a junk baller these days, having no clue what shot to hit when. she will blast one shot then try junky slices the next with no real intent.

aga is just mopping up all that "increased depth" in womens tennis by simply just being able to keep the ball in play and manipulate her hands to avoid errors lol

Stosur and Lisicki should not get paid.

StephenUK
Feb 23rd, 2012, 12:32 PM
Sabine should take some time out and recover from her injury as there is no point playing in pain in Dubai of all places. She hasn't got much to defend before qf Stuttgart and the really big points only come with the grass season so why bother. Indian Wells and Miami are not unmissable, her ranking isn't going to change much in the short term unless she wins a lot of matches which does not look likely with this form. At least she made the qfs here, which is better than Doha.

Aga is now a fully fledged top 8 player, growing in authority and it looks like she is honing in on a top 5 spot. Maybe she won't do it this week, but Stosur's poor loss to JJ was a nice bonus for her.

Sabine really needs to toughen up. Anger is a much more productive feeling than despair, when losing badly. Anger can turn your game around. She looked so unsure, like she was thinking "oh gosh" before every tentative groundstroke. It took until the last game before she loosened up and started powering that forehand.

Patrick345
Feb 23rd, 2012, 12:34 PM
unfortunately, Sabine has no plan B when her basing does not work out. Her attempt to play finesse tennis is a clear disaster.

Plan B? She needs a Plan A first. She has no identity on the court. All the top players in the world, at least most know who they are and what they want to do on the court. Lisicki has no idea what her game is. It changes from match to match, from game to game, from point to point. She needs a real coach that gives her a direction on the court. She also needs some psychological help. She canīt cry in every 2nd match.

The girl is a mess right now, very emotionally fragile for sure. Some sessions with a good sport psychologist are overdue.

I thought she had her game plan in place at the beginning of this match but completely lost her confidence as the match went on.

Then she became completely clueless not really knowing what to do as she kept on missing her big shots, hence no plan B :)

I don't care so much that Sabine loses matches, I supported her through thick and thin when she played ITF's, but all that happens is I get mocked for my enthusiasm by fans on various sites and Sabine herself I assume. It's just an uncomfortable situation supporting someone that probably thinks I'm a fool. Yeah I actually am a fool to allow myself to get sucked into all this.. Worst part is never got accepted as her facebook friend while other fans who are my 'haters' did. Why would I be ok being treated as a joke?

Sorana is baggage free and I can just follow her in a more casual way. No caring about whether she replies or not, no need to have interaction with her at all, and no silly dramas!

These other fans assured me she was told about me and some of my posts... I was just really really fond of her like a big fan, not like I was actually going to 'stalk' her if she'd came to Sydney. This is the internet and I can let my emotions out in an over the top way if I choose, I'm pretty mild mannered in 'real life' but not so shy behind a keyboard!

Yeah, "other fans"...that's what I meant by saying people are messing with you.

I think you should change your mindset in general, regardless of which player you support. Don't expect these girls to know you or like you... they have tens of thousands of fans and even if you luck out to have some short contact with them they will hardly remember you.

Stop expecting too much or you`ll get disappointed. These girls live in a completely different world that a fan will never be part of - I think it's important to reminded yourself of that from time to time.

Lisicki has no idea what her game is. It changes from match to match, from game to game, from point to point. She needs a real coach that gives her a direction on the court. She also needs some psychological help. She canīt cry in every 2nd match.

Tell me the name of a top athlete who hasn't a mental coach. :rolls:

Yeah, "other fans"...that's what I meant by saying people are messing with you.

I think you should change your mindset in general, regardless of which player you support. Don't expect these girls to know you or like you... they have tens of thousands of fans and even if you luck out to have some short contact with them they will hardly remember you.

Stop expecting too much or you`ll get disappointed. These girls live in a completely different world that a fan will never be part of - I think it's important to reminded yourself of that from time to time.

Yeah I know, my life would be better if she never replied! I lose focus of more important things than contact with egotisticial tennis players.

It was such a slow Lisicki catastrophe in the making (game wise, the match actually lasted 61 min), that I'm not sure annihilate, is even the proper word. Lol.

But it is, what it is. And Sabine was all over the place with no game plan, mental stability and some comical club level errors (like after that very hard return in the second set, the game after she missed swallowing her bagel).

And it's amazing to think that some one who can serve 200+ Kph, couldn't consistently tune down their first serve to be truly effective at 150-180kph, and their second serve at about 137kph-161kph?

She'll comeback. She's just gotta find her game, her head and her confidence again.

Sabine is really in quite awful shape lately!
Here and there she was able to show some good quality but in general she didnīt impress much since last summer.
I guess she still was affected by that virus as well but that doesnīt explain everything.
No confidence in her strokes, horrible cheap errors, bad movement and also quite bad serving( obviously as her serve only works when she is confident, 2nd serve is a weak point anyway)

But that doesnīt mean that Sabine is overrated or anything IMO, she just has no consistency in her game , no plan B, on a good day she still would beat Radwanska most of the time.
I am sure that Sabine will have better results anyway in future again, but if she ever wants to be top 10 or long term top 20 at least then she just has to become more consistent.( not sure if she will ever be able to be)

After that match today, I'm even more mad we couldn't see yesterday's match. She seemed pretty solid yesterday, in complete contrast to today's match. Against Benesova she won 76% of 1st serves (56%), today she won 46% of 1sts (45%). Yesterday she didn't get broken once, today six times. Only possible explanation: Benesova was even crappier than Sabine, seems unlikely after winning 4 matches in Dubai, but then again she only beat Garcia, Daniilidou, Dellacqua and Cibulkova. So who knows.

I hope they are all taking a break now and recover well, more than half the WTA seems to be injured or sick these days and it's only mid-February.

Completely agree with the identity. This is something I've been wondering since Stanford of last year, what's her style ? What is the definition of her tennis game ? I'm very doubtful that she knows or even her entourage self. She has a lot of potential, she can do a lot of things and she REALLY needs someone to direct her into ONE specific direction.

Stosur and Lisicki should not get paid.

Apparently they were both sick and I think they do deserve the credit for at least showing up rather than pulling out at the last minute like others. At the end of the day they are just human being and entitled to have a bad day.

Yikes, I did not see the match but Sabine must have played awful. Still, it is very early in the year and she can bounce back. I'm not sure what she has to do to fix her game but if/when she does she should be a fixture in the top ten.

Sabine should be less emotional on court and take more care of her tennis. She has no plan B... having power doesn't make you a good player in every match.

Radwanska boring as always, her matches are like a process to an old lady: it never ends.

It seems that has passed some people by.

Sabine is going to get some blood tests. She has been ill since Fed Cup.

May explain why in recent matches she ran out of puff & why she has been so erratic.

Lisicki needs to hire a professional team with a real coach and a sports psychologist. Easiest solution to bang her head into form would be Demekhine. It worked for Zvonareva.

could team lisicki afford it? less than a year ago she was having to travel by train to play in 50k challengers. ok, there's been some success since, and adverts etc. but has she got the kind of sponsorship to be able to afford it?

I was mad before I went to sleep but then woke up and felt I'd gone too far. It's not really so much Sabine I have a problem with, it's a few of her fans who've hassled me. I have a problem with saying too much of what I am thinking... I realise it's not really a good way to try to get to know people, just over the internet, because it's too easy to get the wrong idea.

I am sympathetic to Sabine's problems and I very much hope she can find her form again.
