played ao, 1 match of fed cup, did a bit of shopping in paris, now nothing till iw. seems a rather odd early season, missing the two potentially lucrative middle east premiers? is she injured or unfit? or not taking anything seriously till the olympics?

Maria hasn't played middle East for quite some time now. She is not the type of a player who could play all year and stay totally ok, so it is a good decision to have a bit of a break before the most difficult part of this year kicks in. And if you wanna know where is she, in USA. ;)

she cares only about slams nowadays...plus she likes to take a month break once in a while anyway:cheer:

you're right! but she did play one of them each year prior to the rc injury, just ignored them ever since. i suppose i think of her as playing there as she did quite well, winning or finalist whenever she played, but it was a while ago.

It is very interesting that she doesn't usually play the Middle East tournaments because she has had very good success at them.

Doha in 2005 which she won.
Dubai in 2006 which she lost in the final to Handin.
Doha in 2008 which she won.

Mid-east tourneys are for hardworking players who want to earn points and money. Maria is neither hardworking nor does she want to earn points/money this time of the year.

^where is that? North Sea?

Spring American HC season was when she started to gain points last year. Would be interesting if she started underperforming Caro style and slid down the rankings. :oh:

Another part timer? I thought it was finally showing dividen that part timers don't get enough match play before slams and winning is actually harder. Playing your way through a slam is about to totally change IMO Vika and Kvitova are full timers who just get better and the more they play. Part timers should get a reality check soon.

Why would it be 'interesting'? That's such an odd choice of word... Surely the tour is more 'interesting' if the best players on the tour are playing at or near their best. I don't see how it would make the tour more interesting if Maria started to under-perform.

I'd like to see things shake up at the top and both Sam and Aga in the top 4 (if they play well). However, you are right that wishing others (especially strangers) failures is kinda pathetic so I wish Maria (and other players) all the best in future endeavors, on- and off-court.

Some Radwanska fans are so annoying and pathetic. :tape: Be glad Maria is taking a few weeks off. She's not a part time player. She's already played in Australia, Moscow, and Paris. That's a lot of traveling. She would have played an AO warmup if she wasn't still feeling the effects of her ankle injury. She hasn't played the the Middle East in a few years, and with the Olympics this year, she probably wants to watch carefully how many tournaments she plays.

Had she won 1 or 2 more matches in Paris, I doubt we'd be having this conversation. But she had a shock loss to an in-form player and went back to the USA a few days earlier than expected.
