Poor Lucie.

And Look at both Sam and Lucie in that third set, after a tiebreaker. SMH.

What can you do about Lucie? Just shrugs and hugs.

Go Sam. Vika's out the tournament, so you may have as good a chance as any. I'm not sure if they're are many tall, big hitters left in the draw (or if you'll see them), like Ivanovic, Lisicki and Georges.

I know Lisicki's 5'10" and Georges is 5'11". They may not tall enough to qualify for Sam's Club. And Georges may not hit flat enough (and/or have too big of a swing) to qualify either.

Not sure exactly, what's the Mendoza line/cut off height of futility is for Sam?

We definitely know it's 6' and over, though. Lol

So that was 100% Mauresmoesque pressure at the AO. I see no reason why she can't win RG if she keeps this up.Nnobody knows how to play on clay but clay is the fastest surface these days so she still needs to avoid Sharapova and Azarenka and be a massive underdog too  now I see a few reasons :tape:

I put it at 5"11', but there are exceptions. I think Hantuchova might be that tall, but doesn't have a good record against Sam, whereas Flavia Pennetta is, I don't know, 5"7'ish, and, well...

Goerges has beaten Sam in both their matches. But I'm more worried about JJ just at the moment.

Sam doesn't have problems against all tall flat hitters... just the very good ones - Azarenka, Sharapova, Kvitova, Venus Williams. These players neutralize her serve very well and rob her of time to crunch her forehands. Then there's Clijsters and Pennetta, who are not tall but equally good at handling Sam's serves.

Lower ranked lefties like Lucie always has the potential to steal a win. Just look at Czink at Wimbledon and Iveta at Brisbane. They can target Sam's weaker backhand more effectively. A well-earned win! :)

Well done Sam! Didn't see the match, but good to see her save all those BPs and come back so strongly at the end. Good sign that she is feeling confident about her game. Go Sammy!
