JJ is awful again. She just doesn´t care. Instead of playing a simple passing shot, she overhits a lob by two metres and that forehand volley again. She should just let all balls pass to avoid that embarrassment. :tape:

EDIT: Wrong thread. Wwhatever.

Let´s hope so. Great opportunity for some easy points, if she can keep it together.

Didn't it seem during the match Goerges - Kussy that Goerges already knew it?
Knew that there was more behind a win than a next round punishment by Vika?

Vika should have announced it yesterday
a day sooner or later would not have changed anything about her injury... :o

Gilas.
Feb 22nd, 2012, 10:14 AM
So Kvitova withdraws after the draw was made so Aga loses 1R bye and had to play 2hrs
Then Azarenka withdraws giving Caro walkover to the finals.

God, I love my home torunament this year

Look at Kim after her ankle vs Li. Playing with a bad ankle is crazy. Lets hope Vika can make IW. Kim cant
But skipping this week is obvious move. Important move.

Julia should play in QF without match in 2nd round. They should pretend that match Vika vs Julia is nothing more but normal match without player with BYE in 1st round.

Gilas.
Feb 22nd, 2012, 10:27 AM
Not if she has play Dani in the semis :oh:

Oops you're right :oh:

And just saw Mona is playing Julia in 2r  At least some good came from Vika's withdrawal :cheer:

EDIT: Seriously, who is playing Julia in 2r??? :o

Is Azarenka still considered unbeatable this year if she retired?

Gilas.

I hope Mona didn't leave too early :crying2: but Julia should seriously take advantage of this.

Feb 22nd, 2012, 10:32 AM
From the new Schedule you can hint that Kirilenko is still very doubtful, otherwise Ana-Maria would be moved to CC.

"withdraw" more like, and yes. A walkover would be arguable, but luckily didnt happen.

This builds more suspense for IW with Vika undefeated heading into a mandatory.
If Vika wins IW, then she's defending Miami, has the streak, and Serena, Kim should be playing.
That would be something

Jane Lane
Feb 22nd, 2012, 10:45 AM
Dellacqua  a bye for Julia

:haha: Didn't Julia lose to Lepchenko last week?

StoneRose
Feb 22nd, 2012, 10:49 AM
Smart move, I wonder why she waited this long? Maybe to see how well the foot would heal and finally deciding it wasn't worth it.

Azarenk comments :

Last week it was already hurt in the semi-final, and in the final I tried to do everything, you know, to be able to play. It took a lot of sacrifice by taking a lot painkillers, but apparently didn't get better,” said the 22-year-old. “I had to adjust my movement, compromise in other parts of my body which started it hurt, and it's just too much of a risk. Obviously very disappointing (to withdraw from Dubai). But it's life. It's sport. I just have to take care of it and that's it.

Good Move for Vika.

Leave the scraps to the rest of the peasants. Plus no need to risk further injury, and/or a loss, right before the American Hardcourt season and Miami, from over play.

Maybe it's Retire-Renka no more (as an earlier poster said). The Pony one. Sorry I forgot how to spell your name. Good for Vika!

Now isn't Lisicki still left in this tournament?

I keep hearing about vultures in Woz and Aga (I'm not calling them that, they are), and I know she's not playing well, but maybe someone in the German Posse (namely Lisicki, Barthel or Georges) may shock????

Just throwing it out there. I know Barthel is tired, Lisicki is slumping and Georges, is well Julia Georges (though I like her). :help:  :help:

Mistress of Evil
Feb 22nd, 2012, 12:23 PM
Since it ain't an actual WALKOVER and there is a LL entering in her place, the streak is still alive, I guess.

:awww: enjoy your Dubai vacation Vika.
Or has she already completed her committments for the event and flying back to Monaco/Arizona?
* oh, and does this mean another player who gets a ZERO pointer this week?

rechi
Feb 22nd, 2012, 03:24 PM
as expect from me. Vika is smart enough. She can handle the fine for sure ;) She won't risk a more serious injury in the beginning of a season. There are more tasks to come. Move on, heal the ankle and get some time out of tennis to get the mind fresh and hungry for winning!

Another zero pointer? So you don't just get one for withdrawing from commitment Premier 5, but for withdrawal from any premier?

Only for Premiers for which you'd committed to at the start of the season, I think.

Her withdrawal makes sense. I think she only planned on playing it because she had her eye on a match against Kvitova, she really had nothing to gain from playing it.

in addition to the 4 slams and the 4 Premier Mandatory, the top 10 players at end of 2011 must commit to 4 of the 5 Premier 5 and 2 of the Premier 700 (does not include the ones the week before slam) at the beginning of 2012 ... if they withdraw from any of these committed tournaments they get a 0

Vika, Petra, Na and Petko all committed to Dubai as a P700 so they get a 0 this week :lick:

I really wish Vika to heal and rest well - I experienced untreated ankle myself, it took about 5 months to heal properly after trying to overcome it with tape and painkillers (and about 3 more not necessary matches). Get well, we need some bait: looking forward to Vika - Petra match, hopefully in their best :yippee: :aparty:
