Nervous at the end, but solid overall from Ana. Backhand looked good. I like it whens she plays with more spin on the forehand.

I liked her mentality as well (at least until she served for the match).

Beat Kiri please!

So much drama. So much drama. Unnecessary. 10 set points to win the 1st set. TEN!

Broke after that 16-point game in the second set, only to get broken back immediately. Somehow broke at 4-4 to serve for it, only to get broken right back. Thank god for that challenge at 30-30 in the last game.

Wasted about 20 break points.

first set was a total disaster from Fran, she just seems not to care at all  it's just not her! second set was better, I had the feeling she could turn things around, but too many UE from her prevented it.....I hope she finds her regularity and confidence, otherwise there is no way to last until the end of this year

Well done Ana :yeah: Not great from either player but Ana got the job done eventually. GL in next match against either Makiri or most likely Woz if Maria has indeed pulled out.

Daszmarelli: @Kfish_WTA Did Kirilenko withdraw of singles draw too?
Kfish_WTA: @Daszmarelli Kirilenko is 2nd match on court 1 Wednesday vs. the winner of Ivanovic/Schiavone

So, Masha.K is not OUT now.

What a terrible match

Ivanovic can't really take much joy in terms of her game from beating Schiavone who's barely a top 30 player on hardcourts, but mentally it's quite impressive - Schiavone always tests your mental strength, as Ana's slumping Serb sister knows too well, and Ana herself probably would've lost last spring when she was at her most headcasey.

Is MaKiri w/o or not?
rumors 1 (http://www.zimbio.com/Tennis/articles/lNDABSIKy2O/Cibulkova+Kirilenko+pull+out+Dubai+Open) , rumors 2 (http://play-tennis.info/4234/tennis-cibulkova-kirilenko-pull-out-of-dubai-tournament/) , rumors 3 (http://english.ruvr.ru/2012_02_21/66598345/)

If source for this information is tournament organizers, why in post-match interview they ask Ana how she will prepare for tomorrows match!?

Even if Sexa is kind of falling apart and it wasn't exactly a quality performance, this is still a good win for Ana. I don't remember the last time she beat anyone ranked anywhere near as highly as Schiavone.

She wasted 8 set points at 5-0* in the 1st set. And needed 5 bps to break at 6-1 2-2. LOL.

Poor Schiavone.... atleast it sounds like she tried to fight. Hopefully she wont get discouraged... she can still do potential damage on slow hardcourts. Her game is very enjoyable to watch but she needs to be fully confident for the variety and touch in her game to work at its' best.

VIP owns Sexa either way, so the result was NID...
I presume itallian sex goddess may leave the tour soon enough, unless clay will revitalize her charming game and personality somehow...

If clay doesnt then nothing will. The extra time she is given to setup for her different spins and variety helps her game out tremendously. It is substantially harder to hit through a confident Schiavone on clay.... and thats really the best way to beat her.

However, since she has no blatant weapon (or real weakness) her confidence is all the more important to her overall effectiveness. thankfully Im pretty confident she will regain form once clay starts. Its not like she has played horrendous this year afterall.... certaintly not top 10 but it could be worse.

Relatively speaking. Those are her only losses to an Italian at all if I'm not mistaken.
