I think Daniela was slow today : a luck she could survive because another 1st round exit was looming for the Slovakian beauty.

The hilarious thing is that had Polona just sliced every backhand and not tried to drive that joke of a shot, she probably would've won that tiebreak. Practically every point she lost was either a driven backhand error or a loopy backhand that automatically put Hantuchova on the offense.

I liked last week´s performance agaisnt Halep more than this, too much UEs especially in the first half of the match. However, thanks God it didn´t end like last week, Hercog still has some reserves on hardcourts. Despite last week´s fall, Threesetsova has still a surprisingly great 3rd set TB record. And I can´t help, but she is such a horrible challenger, she has no clue where the ball lands:silly: probably a reason why she is often arguing with umpire when she hasn´t hawkeye.

eek. a bit shaky. i hate error-tennis. luckily dani always manages to find a ridiculous winner once in every 30 or so points so it wasnt all painful

Daniela's horrible form still allowing her to win match after match this season. Watch her hit 40 errors against Bartoli or Peng and still win in three ugly sets.

Feel for Polona because imo, she played better (and that's not saying much, both were shitastic) but definitely have to respect Dani's fight out there because her timing was way off today. Plus, the different spins and heights Polona put on the ball was throwing her for a complete loop. But again, great fight, and well done. :yeah: I definitely expect to see a better match from Dani next round.

Still believe in Polona's potential. Really a huge fan of her FH and serve, although I think she can make her serve more of a weapon. It's sad that her BH is still as mediocre as it was when I've first seen her. She either needs to improve the shot or stick to the slice BH.

What a mess from Hantuchova. Sheer fighting spirit got her through today.

Hercog can be so annoying with that slice :o but her 'regular' backhand is a big fat nothing. Sometimes it would bounce before the net :spit:

Hercog's coach literally told her to just push all match.
should have played more topspin high into Dani's forehand and let her run as he told Polona.

Dani was just good enough not to falter mentally and managing to hit easy forehands into an open court within the last part of the tbrk.
DANI WAS VERY LUCKY POLANA JUST DIDN'T STICK TO HER GAME PLAN...

but a win is a win Dani :smooch: and not another r1 exit in a P event...

Polona isn't bad in the first set, using the slice effectively to expose Dani's movement. I turned it off though, knowing her losing in 3 is NID :oh:

so many netcords in her favour :o

Why is that? I mean really it's Hantuchova and it's Polona Hercog, who cares if Hantuchova had netcords in her favour.

Hantuchova > Hercog

Get it? :wavey:

Anyway, it would have been a such a fail of epic proportions, phew...

I think Dani's game was affected by the windy condition...
plus Hercog get all the balls...

Dani has 50 UE !!!
well I'm just happy that she win and her mental toughness is kinda high...she should be like this..well all the 1st RD match with qualifers were 3 sets... (Hercog is LL)...

hoping for an easier R2...GL Dani!

What a match :o

It looked very windy.

Polona could have won this but she had zero belief, and no backhand. I wonder how many backhands she dumped into the net? Im glad Daniela pulled through but Polona really needed this win and I think this loss will drain her confidence more.

Dani playing horrible tennis and still winning matches :cheer:
She needs to pick it up though, someone with over 30% of their brain working will beat her.

Also, I wish Polona would dump that coach and actually maximise her potential.

Hercog's coach literally told her to just push all match.

He was useless. I swear he told her to play her game and take it to her and Polona replied that she could but Daniela did everything better. Girl got self-belief

He managed to work out that Dani's weakness was her movement though. Genius!

this is why i'll hate that ***** forever.:o

so many netcords in her favour :o

There were also a lot of balls from Dani that looked to be on the lines that were called out.

The backhand ros that dribbled over the net at 5-5 in the second set was hilarious though.

Even her slice BH is poor. Lacks bite, depth and accuracy.

But what bothers me the most about Polonia is that she is such a magnificent physical specimen, yet her game just isn't all that big - it lacks the raw power that would allow her to impose herself on her opponents. Fine looking ATP-ish service motion (reminiscent of Cilic), but serve just isn't very big and its only use is to set up kick serve + in-out or in-in FH combos on clay. Heavy topspin FH, but lacking in raw pace and not very penetrating.

That being said, this match was ghastly - Danka missed nearly every single BH she tried to hit in the first, and in the second she had a patch of more than 10 consecutive points lost with UEs IIRC. Danka played a fairly good TB (not that she needed to step it up as Polonia was more than willing to throw away the match anyway), though.
