it occurred to me sometimes late in the match that Jelena should call her old nemesis Justine Hennin & tell her this:
"please teach me how to win, because I have no idea - if you can't no one will"
I genuinely thought this seriously at the time.

you are being kind. Jelena always had an excuse for every loss she's ever had. If she is fair dinkum she should shut up about her cold even if she had truly had one. No one gives a shit about her excuses any more. Where she really lost it were those ever present self doubts. That lack of killer mentality.
Didn't you see that ugly face of Wosniacki when she won the point to give her the last advantage point. That will remind you of what bloody faced aggression looks like. Jelena hasn't got that and never will. No she won't get better. Her problem is mental. Did you also not notice that in every match so far she always started slow. It's in the mind. There's no cure.

I'm so excited about her mixed doubles match tomorrow, they can take it again. :)
Jelena's still rocking in Australia, so please stay quiet. It isn't the end of everything. I'm also looking forward to seeing her in Fed Cup. She finally started playing her game in that second set, too bad it was too late and she has no good serve. Still, Nehles is there to teach her something and sometimes Woz is so boring to play against, so I don't blame Jelena. People, please, the second week of AO is a success for her now. ;)
On to her mixed doubles match and hoping for another win. :yeah:

C. WOZNIACKI/J. Jankovic

6‑0, 7‑5

Q. Was there anything about Caroline's game tonight that surprised you?

JELENA JANKOVIC: No, nothing really surprised me. I knew what to expect. I mean, she was very solid off the baseline. You know, she was, you know, not giving me anything, and, you know, especially in the first set I was just making errors and errors.

I just couldn't, you know, play those long, long rallies, and I was always the first one to kind of, you know, give up on the balls and kind of make the mistakes.

You know, I saw the statistics, you know, after the match. I had like 50 unforced errors and she had like 15. That's a huge difference. Here and there, you know, as well in the first set I had lots of games like 40‑15, and I was too, you know, erratic at times. Just I couldn't, you know, play consistent, you know, a few points well and keep it under control.

Then in the second set, you know, I started playing more aggressively and I started going for my shots a lot more. But, you know, little unlucky here and there. I went for too much for those drop volleys and made a mistake. It didn't happen for me. I lost 7‑5.

But I think overall, playing the night match, the court was a lot slower. So I think it really suited her. The ball wasn't really flying throughout air, so really the points were really long and there was just a lot of hitting.

Against a player like that who doesn't really give you anything, and especially with my cold, it was so hard for me to breathe. At times when I had to run, you know, those balls were like 20 rallies.

It was really difficult for me. But I really tried my best. It didn't happen, and obviously I have to do certain things a lot better, you know, against those kind of players that they make every ball in and don't really give you many gifts.

Q. I have seen you had tissues at a lot of your matches here. Is this something that just started recently or it's been going on?

JELENA JANKOVIC: Yeah, it's been already for a week or 10 days. Since I came here in Melbourne. It's really bothering me. I really don't know what to do.

Especially when you're playing top players, you really have to be 100% ready and every little thing counts. Obviously this cold doesn't help, especially playing Wozniacki, who ‑‑ you know, she's ‑‑ when you play her, you've got to be in the court for many balls.

I mean, she's the player that retrieves; the best defensive player out there; really gets every ball in. I mean, she rarely makes any mistakes.

It was difficult for me. I wish we maybe played, you know, during the day where the ball would, you know, fly faster through the air so the points would be a little bit shorter, but unfortunately it didn't happen.

Q. Now you have some time to focus on winning a second mixed doubles Grand Slam title.

JELENA JANKOVIC: When are we on? Do you know?

Q. I don't know. I haven't looked.

JELENA JANKOVIC: Yeah, it's gonna be fun. Like a little consolation. We're both out of singles.

Q. Have you already made up your mind about next week, Fed Cup in Belgium? Are you gonna play?

JELENA JANKOVIC: I just lost, you know, the match. You know, I really haven't thought about that. I'm still fresh from losing, you know, tonight.

So, yeah, obviously Fed Cup is nice, and it's nice to play for your country. So just in a little bit when I just come down, you know, I will be thinking about, you know, the future, you know, events.

Q. How about your win of the mixed doubles?

JELENA JANKOVIC: I don't know if that's gonna happen. (Smiling.)

there is truth in what you say, but there is also in what i said. She froze at 5:5. It had nothing to do with the cold. Yea, i saw a lot of sorry glance from her especially in set one (self pity I call it). I admire people like Henin. You never knew when she was sick, and I can assure you she was plenty times. I no longer feel sorry for Jelena. But I do give her top marks for hanging in as best as she could.

I think we reacted wrongly.

She played against dominant player in Tour, one of the best in history of this sport. And she won not 1, not 2, but 5 games :cheer: It's obvious that Caroline is far far far far far ahead. Jelena is only 13th in world, but she forced WOzniacki to play her best tennis. And she wasn't healthy.

I'm impressed.

The example with Henin is not accurate, as she was suffering from asthma and had always an extra-treatment because of the drugs she was taken.

But yeah, I think she failed at 5-5, when she got in the game and Wozniacki played worse. She could have played few points differently.

I was pissed at Jelena when she lost to Schiavone in the 4th round of RG last year, when she played total shit and did ultimate pushing in the 3rd set and that was obviously a tactical fail. Today I think she had a good gameplan but she was too weak to play.

what is really heartbreaking is that JJ is not playing bad...sure that 1st set was horrid. But she broke back to make it 5-5 in the second set. It was 30-30, and she lost her nerve. That end of 2nd set, she was playing pretty GOAT. Her mental strength is soooooooo bad. There was a time where I loved JJ because she could fight back, even uptill Rome 2010. Now, it is aas though she loses a set, and she is a gonner. I hate to admit this, but I think this is really the downroad for Jelena. I hope I am wrong, but I am kind of tired of being optimistic lol.

Yes. It will be much easier to hit a flatter forehand with a semiwestern instead of a western grip. That way she might be able to get a small bit of penetration on her forehand side...

Wake up Jelena and win GS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jelena is far away of winning slam. That's reality. ( so I don't expect top results right now- step by step)
1st she must improve her game, attitude on court, get back in top 10 and than there is a chance for winning title
She lost in 4th round and so she is on top 20 level but top 5/10 players are on higher level than others.
Like she said in blog it's still work in process and I hope she will reach her goals :)
For sure nobody more than JJ wants to start winning titles again but that's not that easy.
I'm glad she is working hard. Without that you cannot be in TOP 10.
Also she must do some analysis for health, it's not normal to have cold non stop. That's doing big difference against top players.( I have cold? Ok I will hit 50 errors in two sets match because I'm sick) probbaly she can not take some medicine to cure herself fast because doping rules so she doing that on slow tradicional way...
She must be positive in matches, usualy when she lose set then she give up from match:help:
Look at Azarenka, she lose set 7-6 or 6-1 but in next she is playing like nothing happened...
Jelena imporved her serve(average serve speed is in top of wta:eek:) but her return is on low level for hers standards:rolleyes:

but who knows? maybe she gets lucky and win fluke gs like others lol (but considering her luck that's not going to happen :( )

How does the relationship with Jelena Jankovic, the best Serbian tennis player?

Ouch. Poor Jelena. Perhaps it's better she takes time off until she heals instead of dragging this through the rest of the season, like she did after Portoroz.

Jelena on examinations in Paris

- Ultrasound showed that the violation of femoral muscle, but is not quite clear whether there was a rupture or is it just a hematoma or hemorrhage. Since the therapy did not improve and the pain is present, it was decided that Jelena is not playing on Sunday so as not to complicate injuries. However, today will have to repeat the ultrasound findings in Paris to see if the hematoma is increased or withdrawn. She feels the pain and she is under the treatment, but more detailed predictions about the length of recovery can only be given after a review of Paris - Milinkovic said.

Serbian media are full of reports about JJ's injury
It sounds like ruptured muscles injury but they won't to panic
:sad::sad:

http://www.footballrescue.com/thigh.htm
In a first degree strain, only a few muscle fibres are damaged.
• In a second degree strain, the damage would involve a more extensive number of muscle fibres.
• In a third degree strain, the muscle itself would have a complete rupture.

Thigh Muscle Strain Signs & Symptoms

A grade one thigh strain may be felt only after the activity is over. The patient may feel sensations similar to a cramp. He or she may also experience tightness in the thigh along with some pain when extending or contracting the thigh muscles.

A grade two strain’s effects will be felt immediately. There will be a more severe pain and the injury will also make walking extremely painful. The injury will be verified if there is throbbing when the muscle is either stretched or contracted. Also, this degree of strain will be sore to touch.

The most severe of all, a grade three injury would involve a complete tear in the muscle itself. In this grade, the patient will instantly experience stabbing pains emanating from the thigh. Walking will also come with an extreme amount of pain. Because of the tear, there may be a visible depression in the thigh as well as a lump above that depression. An injury of this magnitude will also cause internal bleeding which, after a few days, will manifest as large bruises on the skin.:sobbing:

Thigh Muscle Strain Treatment

In order to lessen the bleeding and the damage within the tissues, a combination of rest, ice and compression must be immediately applied to the injury. Although resting may seem like a typical form of treatment, many competitive athletes fail to recognize its importance. Failure to have adequate rest could be very dangerous since it takes very little for an injury to escalate from one degree of severity to another. In general, a patient must refrain from any sports-related activity for about three weeks in order to facilitate healing of a grade one Thigh strain.

For a grade two thigh strain, rest must be increased to about four to six weeks. In the case of a grade three strain, a surgery will be necessary in order to repair the ruptured muscles. After the procedure, the patient must undergo rehabilitation for three months.

Whether the patient has a grade one, two or three injury, the immediate treatment of the thigh strain is the same. With a compression bandage put in place, the thigh must be elevated and must be refrained from any motion. An ice pack must also be applied at two-hour intervals, for 20 minutes each time. The bleeding, as well as the inflammation of the tissues will be reduced after these procedures have been carried out. More active rehabilitation may begin only after the patient has had a couple days of rest.

During the healing process, a scar tissue will form on the area of injury. Gentle resistance exercises along with thigh stretching will aid in the alignment of the scar. The tensile strength of the thigh muscle will improve once the scar tissue is properly aligned along the normal lines of stress.

In the beginning, a therapist will provide gentle resistance. However, as the muscle heals and strengthens, it will be possible to use resistance bands that can offer a more challenging exercise. The number of sets and repetitions performed will be gradually increased. Eventually, the patient will be able to start working on his Core strength.

I remember that all the players were injured/tired/sick in Paris last year. Lot of points, but really an awful schedule. JJ should skip it. It's not smart to play with that kind of injury. She couldn't move her left leg on Saturday.

Definitely. she doesn't need to drag an injury throughout the rest of the season on top of being old and tired and everything... But I'm still kind of pissed at her for getting injured - it wouldn't have happened if she hadn't played F-F-F-F-Flipkens of Belgium for 2 hours. :weirdo: I mean, how on earth can you lose 10 games to such a player??

She said it was the surface. She came from Australia to Europe. It's a winter here, indoors conditions, weird surface. From the first point her body language was very bad. I'm glad that she stayed calmed and saved those set points. She has the points to defend in the next few weeks and the draw will be tough in Doha and Dubai. She should skip it, it would be a bit irresponsible to play it.

Yes, she's a pro athlete and she wouldn't withdraw from FC because of some big bruise. It's more than just a bruise.

And this tournament is completely irrelevant. Why would SF here be so important for her? Players skip slams when they are injured.

I love this tournament, I'm sad to see her pulling out. I think that this surface suits her a lot and she would've been able to make a good result. She also had a good draw.
Oh well, let's hope to see her playing here next year. Now it's time she took some rest in waiting for Doha. She has a lot of points to defend in the Middle East, so I hope she's physically ready to do well there. She needs to save those points and she needs to climb the rankings. She has a tough March to come, as well.

I am also JJs fan and i wish her quick recovery, because she has a lot to defend this month.... http://www.vkolona.com/forum/images/smilies/cold.gif

Anyway, here is a table i did for some other forum about JJs performances on Tier I turnaments. I dont know where to put it..

For ATP it is easy, since almost the beginning, Masters have been Masters, and just a few changed, but on WTA... It is realy anoying how they change Tiers etc... http://www.vkolona.com/forum/images/smilies/dq.gif
