Depending on the pools, I think that given how Kaia played on Brisbane, Estonia has a decent chance. The favourites would he to e Poland and the netherlands though. The Dutch have real depth in their teams.

I think Estonia will get a good pool because they have played World Group?

Also Romania have good players, but not really suited to the surface. :o

The Dutch need to find some form

Not necessarily. Don't they take or team from each ranking group, meaning that there is a one in four chance that Greece could draw Estonia!

OMG Greece
Where's Gerasimou when you need her? :o. She won the National Championships again so she's guaranteed a Fed Cup spot but it seems she has had enough and didn't take it serious last year so it wen't to the runner-up, which was Stefanou...
And no Georgatou NO NO NO NO NO :sobbing:. I was afraid she wouldn't show up :sobbing:. I'm going to be so angry if we get relegated :bigcry:. She hasn't been seen since October and she withdrew from 25K Istanbul after the draw was made I hope she is injured and not retired :scared:. I tried contacting her on facebook and she didn't answer me and I asked Sakkari who has talked to me before and she didn't answer and I asked someone who runs a Greek tennis website who recently interviewed Eirini and he said he is trying so hard to find out and has no idea why she isn't playing :scared:. I doubt she retired because she just launched her official website and she played well last year when she wasn't injured and she takes her career very seriously. She trained at Mouratoglou's for a while and went on the Mauritius trip last year with Dokic, Cirstea, Wickmayer, Rezai, and Robson. And she was recently interviewed (by the person I mentioned above) and she talked about her future...I'm so stressed out now :o

Now we will once again be fighting to stay in Group I. I just hope we go into one of the groups with 4 teams so we can have a good shot at not having to go into a relegation play-off. Eleni should be able to beat Larcher de Brito, Tinjic, or Minella and then maybe Papamichail could surprise and if not then we can maybe win the doubles . Or hope to get Estonia and try and get Papamichail to beat Kontaveit and then win the doubles :facepalm:

Anyways, from the good teams in this group I think 2 of Romania, Poland, Great Britain, Sweden, and Croatia will go through. Romania really has no business in this group IMO. They have so many top 100 and top 200 players and they have been stuck in Group I for way too long. I really hope they can go through (plus I like most of their players :p). It's a shame that Arn and Czink aren't playing for Hungary, otherwise they would also do well as Babos and Marosi are good players and they always have a good doubles team :yeah:

hellas719
Jan 9th, 2012, 02:07 AM
Wait, why is Dulgheru in but not Cirstea? :o
And doesn't Sorana need to play for Olympics since she didn't play last year? Or does her Fed Cup service count for 2011 since she was on the squad and traveled to Eilat even though she didn't play at all?

If grey Britain qualifies then Estonia will win! The British can't play doubles (thy barely beat wozniacki and some rando last year) so it would be kanepi and then kanepi and ruutel or kontaveit

I wonder why people really think Kanepi/Kontaveit or any with Ruutel can beat all the doubles teams, I mean Kanepi is not that good in doubles and Kontaveit is quite unexperienced. Also I don't think Netherlands can manage to win that Group C, they have a lot of players in the team but Peer can beat all them and Peer/Glushko can be a dangerous team specially playing in front of the Israeli crowd... Wouldn't be a surprise if Israel gets past that group...

Bad draw for Israel. Peer should win out, even though she was run over by Rus once in Fed Cup, and of course we should beat Portugal with ease (god forbid if we don't), but I wish I could share your optimism regarding the ties vs GBR and the Netherlands.
Yes Glushko was very good last year, but she beat some top 200 players (Linette, Kremer, Kostova), and top 100 ones are a very different story for her. From memory I think she has one such win for her career (Groth in a 25K in Australia, not counting the recent Israeli ch. final vs Peer). If she could beat one of Keothavong or Krajicek it would be a pleasant surprise.
Peer/Glushko aren't that good a team and are not favored in those ties either.

The young Dutch team were very impressive last year and I think they will win the group over the Brits.

Groups A-B (with Hungary missing its top two players) are considerably weaker than C and D.

Hi all,

I'd like to go to the Fedcup in Eilat with a friend of mine, who sits in a wheelchair. Somebody who was at the Fed Cup last year thought that "Eilat" was mainly inaccessible for wheelchairs, but of course that might just be a personal perception and, if not, maybe things have changed in the mean time. Can anybody answer the following questions?

Q1: Is the park itself accessible for wheelchairs or do we need to climb stairs or lift the wheelchair over some ramps in order to access the park itself?

Q2: if we want to change to different courts to see different matches, how easy is that for a wheelchair. Is that (partly or totally) via stairs and over ramps, or can I just push him across to the next court?

Q3: Can my friend stand next to the court or are the tribunes built in such a way that it is impossible or almost impossible to sit next to the court and/or oversee the court?
And at what distance would he have to stand in case there is room; does he need to watch from 10m or further, or can he stand right next to the court?

Q4: Are the facilities like a restaurant (if that's available on the park) and toilets directly accessible for wheelchairs?

Thanks a lot in advance for your answers.

You will lose to both.
Bosnia 3-0.
Tinjic and Jugic Salkic are both good players and would whip greece in doubles.
Estonia 3-0.
Without the top 3 players, Anett would smash. She would have beaten Eirini anyway as Anett has smashed many players that Eirini lost to comfortably (Sabina Sharipova beat Eirini 63 61). Margit would win the other singles and then they would team up to win the doubles. I hope to god that Estonia gets greece. It's the only way we'll stay in.

When Anett is 18, she will be top 100
You seem to be 100% sure in your predictions, no ifs, buts or maybes.
We'll see about all of that.

I mean, Radwanska is the only star on this tournament (besides local stars Peer and Glushko) so her matches should be streamed I guess. :p

Perhaps I am strong in my beliefs but you have to admit that Portugal would be the favourites if it wasnt for the israeli crowd. Eirini georgatou may beat kontaveit, but i wouldnt be surprised if she lost. And greece will not beat bosnia. They just dont have their players. And by the way, did Gerasimou either get anned or retire because she hasnt played since 2010

No I don't.
Even in a major slump, Shahar is a clear favorite against Michelle anywhere and on any surface. Not saying an upset is impossible, but unlikely.
And Koehler may be in better form than Julia, but that would be a 60-40 match at best on neutral ground. Here, the crowd probably makes Glushko the favorite.
The Portuguese wouldn't be favorites in doubles either no matter where it was played.

As for Greece-Estonia, I'm not knowledgeable enough to commment, but I will say that you may be expecting too much out of Kontaveit.

You are biased thogh because you are israeli
And anett has played 3 players in the top 200. All where at career highs and had come off great results. They were Stefanie Vogt in Glasgow (career high), Amra Sadikovic in Helsinki (just won a 50k beating some top players) and the third was putintseva in juniors (had just won eddie herr and was in orange bowl final). Anett beat Putintseva 6262, Sadikovic was 36 63 63 sadikovic but anett was 3-0 40-0 in 3rd set and against vogt, 64 75 included set points in the second set and break points at 4-4 on vogts serve first set. Despina Papamichail is only ranked so highly because she plays a lot of tournaments. Kontaveit played 9, and won 3. She woudl beat Papamichail 2 and 2 or something along those lines

We have Daniilidou and Papamichail even though we are missing Georgatou and Gerasimou. Daniilidou and Papamichail should be enough to beat Bosnia. Eleni said that she is feeling 100% now and she is still in the team but I'm not sure if she will play because she said her next tournament is Pattaya . You are right about greece beating bosnia now. At the time I thought Eleni was injured and that Jugic Salkic was playing.

And by the way, it is completely relevant when I said Anett would be top 100 when she was 18. You said that Despina was top 400 and that she was only 18!!!I said that when Anett was only 18!!!! then she would be top 100. The people anett played were nearly top 200. Despina would lose to all of them in straight sets comfortably

Eleni may not play but we still have chances with Papamichail and Sakkari against Tinjic and Husaric

You really underestimate Despina. First of all, it is completely irrelevant where Annet will be in 2 years. This Fed Cup is going on this week, not in 2 years. Those players you said were all top 200 are actually not top 200. None of them are. I just felt like pointing that out since you are trying to say those things that are not true. And they would not beat Despina that easily. Despina beat Monica Puig over the Summer. Puig is just outside the top 200 like those girls you mentioned, Despina also beat girls like Coin, Zanevska, and Larriere last year. 2 years ago, Despina played a very tight three setter against Buyukakcay who was top 200 at the time. I think Despina could definitely make it competitive against the likes of Sadikovic, Vogt, and Putintseva

And by the way, Despina just lost to Manisha Foster ranked 778 61 75. You dont think Anett would beat her 2 and 2 if anett was playing her best.
You are so stupid. And you said Despina played challengers in france and spain, well she hasnt made it past the second round in 6 months and recently lost first round in a 10k in england

I don't think Annet will beat her 2 and 2. Despina had a bad day, so what?

I am the stupid one? No offense but other people in this thread think that about you so I wouldn't talk ;)

Yes, I said Despina has played many challengers in France and Spain, which she has. And where the hell are you getting this information from? She hasn't made it past the second round in 4 months, not 6. Stop making up these lies . And it was the offseason so she didn't play for over 2 months...And yeah you already said she lost to that Foster girl at that 10K. You don't need to keep repeating yourself :p

And since you are so interested in comparing Despina and Annet, in the past year Despina has won 9 main draw matches in tournaments 25K or above. Annet has not won any MD matches in tournaments 25K or above ;)

And 16 year old Annet is going to be ranked about 650 after Fed Cup. 16 year old Greek Maria Sakkari will be ranked around 700. I'm not saying Maria is anywhere near as good as Annet, but If you say Annet will be top 100 in 2 years then I'll say that Maria will be top 200 in 2 years. Does that change your opinion on the Greek team? It shouldn't because the future is useless right now. In the 2014 Fed Cup thread then you can come and brag about how Annet is in the top 100

Greece will now beat Bosnia because they dont have Jugic Salkic and it seems that Daniilidou will play but Anett might be able to scam a set of either Larcher de Brito or Koehler

The reason I said anett was going to be top 100 when she was 18 was because you were boasting about how good despina was for her age. You were like, she is sooooo good cause shes top 400 and shes only18. Greece will beat Bosnia, even without eleni, if mervana doesnt play.

By the way, im sorry i dont know this but what was the rank of the girls despina played at 25ks. And how many tournaments did Despina play?????? Anett played 3 25ks and against top players. You are not stupid in your predictions of results, you just dont read properly what i am saying. And by the way, it isnt necassarily the ranking of the players that counts, its the form. Sadikovic (50k winner), Vogt (career high), Putintseva (eddie herr winner and made the final of orangebowl). And Amra Sadikovic beat Cagla Buyukakcay staright sets the match after she beat anett.

And the foster girl is an important issue as in terms of current form, anett is in the better form

Obviously when I said they are gonna win the group it didn't include missing their top player.
Now the Brits will go through and also win the playoff against some Group A mugs (likely Austria).

So Eleni didn't show up after all
I love her, but she knew we needed her and I don't understand why she was put on the team if she wasn't going to play. Also pretty dumb of her to say in her blog the other day that she is 100% healthy now. She should've just said that she needs a few days to recover or something. Really no excuse to not show up to Fed Cup. Georgatou and Gerasimou were big losses for the team, but Eleni is a HUGE loss. If we get relegated, its her fault.

Good experience for Sakkari and Papamichail to get to play top 100 girls against Sweden and top 200 girls against Hungary. We just need one win against either Bosnia or Luxembourg (assuming they lose their group)

Anett was really close to getting into this match. Even though 3 and 1 seems convincing, anyone watching the scoreboard would have seen very many 30-30 points (anett got to 30 in every ame of the last set except 1 and had many leads in the games). She is just inexperienced and played a girl who has had a lot of fed cup experience. Anett in the first set broke Pironkova to et to 3-3 before she lost the plot losing 8 games in a row. But still a good experience that will do nothing but good. But Margit, she should jut retire or just play doubles like Abi Spears did with her back injury. Look where the yanks girls are now

Schoofs avoids a monumental choke and takes the opening set 6-3 on her sixth SP (led 4-0 with the loss of just one point, one at 5-1*, four at *5-2, Julia had a point for 4-5 which was the best of the match so far).

Who are the Croatians? I think I only recognize Martic (who can look very different from one photo to another).
