Welcome back to the lovely town of Auckland, New Zealand--where we're hoping that the rain stays away so that we can have some good tennis today! Play has just gotten under way on Centre Court outdoors as Monica Puig of Puerto Rico hopes to continue her run here in New Zealand against the Swede Sofia Arvidsson. Puig engineered a huge comeback against Bibaine Schoofs yesterday, while Arvidsson dropped just two games against Eva Birnerova in just 44 minutes. We shall see what happens today.

Nope! The match has started. They are probably still working on drying off the outside courts, but on Centre, Monica Puig has broken to open the affair, so far it's looking like it will be a good day for the Puerto Rican.

This match could not have been a starker contrast to her start yesterday, where Sofia Arvidsson won 11 straight games to open proceedings. Monica Puig has just held to lead 2-0 in Auckland. Should be interesting to see how Sofia does.

My Scoreboard is working. That's odd. Just looking up Sofia Arvidsson, she beat Petra Kvitova at the China Open last year, and also helped create an all-Swedish Semi-Final at Bastaad. She has also just held to get back to 1-2, with Monica Puig to serve.

The ASB Classic is going to announce the commitment of a big, really exciting player for next year in just a couple of hours, so we'll see who that is. I really hope its Venus. :cheer: That would be exciting for me!

Sofia Arvidsson is rediscovering some of that magic from yesterday--as she has broken back to even up the first set at 2-2.

It drives me insane when it does that. Hopefully Anne can win her match today and qualify, and in the process aid me in my TT. I really do fancy the Brits chances today, its a pity that Heather is injured though, I'm really expecting big things from her this year.

Sofia Arvidsson has just won 3 straight games to lead, 3-2 on serve against our Puerto Rican Friend. One does wonder, why Monica Puig plays for Puerto Rico which is really just an extension of the United States. You would think that you'd get a lot more benefits by representing the US, so that is just an interesting situation you have there.

What is with scoreboard and did match Riske-Nara start

The Scoreboard is fine. As far as I can tell, they are still working on getting the outer courts dry enough to play on. They probably focused on Centre, so we'll see what happens in the next half hour. As far as I know, the only match on is on Centre.

That being said, Monica Puig is trying really hard to hold on here, as she is in a deucalicious battle against Arvidsson on her serve. There it is! The hold to make it 3-3.

Thus far Arvidsson is serving at 87% but she's only winning 58% of the points on her 1st serve. Puig serving at 58% and winning 64% on her first serve.

Monica Puig has just broken to lead 4-3. This could get very interesting. This would be a huge win for Monica if she can pull it off, and not choke like Bibaine Schoofs did against her. We'll see what happens!

What is going on with these other matches? I'm starting to get annoyed here. It's boring to talk about one match.

Oh! What's this? Monica Puig has managed to hold and now leads 5-3 against Sofia Arvidsson who is in danger of dropping her first set of the 2012 season if she doesn't shape up!

I'm going to go take my pesky dog for a walk before the company arrives for New Years (pronounced yah) I'll be back in a bit! Hopefully Puig will continue to be in control of this match when I get back, and the others will have started!

Oh! Set point Puig! Can she do it?!?!? SHE DOES! Monica Puig leads Sofia Arvidsson 6-3, in a really impressive set from Puig!
