Kathleen Pryde-Degman all excited for 2012!
http://www.wtnphotos.com/data/516/len7.jpg
Kathleen Pryde-Degman has had a great break. She managed to spend time with her family staying at a luxurious hotel and she joined in an exhibition held in Singapore in mid December and finished as the winner. She was also pleased that her doubles partner Fleri Hingisfrilla dropped by Singapore to spend time with her before the tour starts.

"I'm totally honoured. With her tight schedule, she chose to come and visit me in my home country. And we already see each other almost everyday! I'm so happy!" says Pryde-Degman.

With this visit, the rumours of a break up in the doubles partnership between the two players are squashed.

"The press doesn't know about the special arrangement for Fleri to play with Nthama at Sydney earlier and so tried to make a sensational news out of nothing. Besides, I will also personally play with Nthama at one of the tournaments which I shall not say now. Let's just leave it as a surprise," explains Pryde-Degman.

With regards to her expectations for 2012, Pryde-Degman wasn't that ambitious.

"I think the top players will continue to dominate. I don't have the fire power to deal with them. I shall just work quietly and try to stay in the top 20. But the exhibition has really made me more excited about tennis. It's been a long time since I enjoyed tennis, so hopefully the feeling stays. I think if it does, it would help a lot to my performance this year. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!" exclaims an excited Pryde-Degman.

Elise Mésane starts the year off reminiscing
"I'm no Ruflina"

http://images3.gossipcenter.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/fullsize_image/images/s/scarlett-johansson-dinner-092511-2.jpg
Elise Mésane arrives at the Brisbane players' party, ready to walk the red carpet.

Brisbane, AUS - We admit: we spent the last hour googling everything and everyone that happened on the tennis courts in 2011. Zianzhi won the Australian Open last year? Well, colour us surprised. The bitter catfight between Vittoria Perez and Candela Sanchez during Wimbledon? Or how Rita Cebolla reached the finals at Miami? Not only did we scratch our heads, we also had to wiki Rita Cebolla. No, we weren't around much during 2011. With the further demise of former starlet Elise Mésane, we didn't feel the need to pay that much attention to the drama that is called FWTT. But as it often happens when old changes into new, we made ourselves a promise to take a front row seat this year. Starting off with a bang, we chased Mésane down the red carpet at the Brisbane players' party for a quick chat and three obligatory kisses.

The head don't turn like they used to when she gets out of the car, but once on the red carpet, the flashes are as abundant as they were five years ago. At 23 years of age, Mésane can look back on a career that has lasted for over half a decade. "I'm no Ruflina or Sabine, but I've definitely been around for quite a while." Seven years to be exact, as the Frenchwoman joined countrywomen such as Emilie Joubert and Tatiana Vieu on the tennis circuit. Nowadays, she gets to gossip in Rousseau's language with Daria Afansyeva and former number one Sylvie Bailly. "I've seen many of my compatriots come and go, but that's life on Tour, I guess. It's always nice to have people around who know where you come from and share the same cultural background."

Still, it's a Czech girl who's been Mésane's confidant and all around best friend over the past few years. When Mésane and Felivitch spot each other on the red carpet, there's no longer time for posing and winking at the cameras. As doubles partners, the blondes have built up a friendship that is hardly rivaled in modern day tennis. "We used to joke that we were Paula and Ruflina-light, but I guess we slowly are turning into them. Friendship-wise, of course, it's not that we'll starting winning 46 tournaments this year. Five would be nice too. Even three, if there's a Slam in it." Last year, the tandem collected two titles and made an impressive run to US Open finals, where they got ousted by Taliamanosoko and Casanova.

The budding relationship, however, hasn't stopped Mésane from taking a week off in February to team up with Botswanian superstar Nthama Mbangu, who's decided this year will be her last. "She's doing this farewell tour where she's trying to play doubles with a bunch of noteworthy players at different events all over the world. I was flattered that she wanted to play with me, donc j'ai accepté. We aren't the best of friends, but it's always sad to see someone leave. Especially when they've played an important role on Tour." Mbangu follows the likes of Selima Beckford-Valentine and Paula Masterton into retirment, both terrific players and Grand Slam winners who decided to leave the Tour last year. Retirement isn't the in cards for Mésane. "I know I've let it shine through a couple of times that retirement was on my mind, but that's not the case anymore. I don't get to star in Grand Slam finals anymore, but that's okay. It won't stop me from giving it my best this year and who knows, maybe I'll get lucky. If Pamela could, why not me? Cause let's face it, you don't win Roland and Wimbledon back to back without a bit of luck."

As always, one has to start at the beginning and for Mésane, that's in the qualifying tournament at Brisbane. Facing fellow Grand Slam champion Martine Kartincova, Mésane realises that the Tour has only gotten stronger and harder to make your way up. "I honestly don't know how those young girls do it. How are you supposed to break through if there are champions like Martine waiting in the qualifiers? As for me, I've played Martine plenty of times, so we know each other's weaknesses. I'm sure we'll give the crowds a quality match. And I even think it's for free. The last time I played a match for free, I was fifteen and Marteena Huubere still had a career. Times sure have changed.
