No, because the tournament – same as last year - didn’t agree to increase its prize money to USD 2,400 grand AND none of the Top 6 players opted out of their commitment (see WTA 2012 rulebook, p 122).

As Serena Williams is the only eligible player to accept a Top 20 WC and assuming that she doesn’t ask for one, according to tenisbos (http://www.tennisforum.com/showpost.php?p=21093460&postcount=6) this should be direct acceptances (bold: 2011 Top 10 player; italics: 2011 Top 20 player):

Serena Williams, Kim Clijsters (their next tournament: PM Madrid) & Flavia Pennetta (Alt 1) are the only three players left for one of two Top 20 [WC]s. You can theoretical argue that Flavia Pennetta will be awarded with one Top 20 [WC] (which she unlikely will accept because her direct acceptance is granted) but as the other Top 20 [WC] will not be used, Lucie Šafářová is in MD too.

but the top 20 WC can also be used for former slam champ right :shrug:

so in the case Safina decides to comeback she can use :oh:
