Am I the only one expecting Sveta to suddenly go into Goddess mode and destroy Petra?

Probably yes, but I'm able to imagine Sveta will win tomorrow. She can do it, but also she can lose this match 60 60 :o

Served much better for majority of the match and must continue to do so if she wants a chance against Petra. Return was on-the-whole still sloppy, much room for improvement tomorrow. Lucie is a really less potent version of Petra so Sveta should take today's match as practice and work on things for tomorrow; She's going to have to stop slicing when she is in control/ the point is neutral because if she comes out passive tomorrow she is losing 2 & 2.

The point is, Sveta can't play Petra, as she's №2 in the team.
№1 is Nastya, sha'll have to play Petra therefore, and there's very little hope for her as she's not in her form and injured. :(

No. Pavlyuchenkova is not nominated for the singles. Kuznetsova and Kirilenko are. So, Sveta is number one and Maria number two.

Wow, Sveta with a win
Some decent play today, not near to her best obviously but better than what I saw in Moscow (WTA)!
Would be too great if she could beat the barker, but that probably won´t happen!

LightsOut!

Lucie looked a bag of nerves, bless her.

Why?

She had already had a win under belt before she even started. Was the pressure in the fear of her being the one to add to the lead (making it a semi-insurmountable 2-0 lead)?

Regarding tomorrow; she should beat a slumping, out of shape (haven't played in a bit) Pav's, but I'm not counting on it.

It'll certainly be interesting TV tomorrow; both matches.

It may come down to the doubles?

I can't believe you are asking why someone would be nervous playing their first Fed Cup final match.

It was the second match!

Wasn't it most/all their first Fed Cup final match?

And the Czech Republic already had a win under their belt.

She's entitled to have a little nerves (especially in the beginning) , yes, but she double faulted 8 times, with a litany of unforced errors (30).

Her play was no different than the Jekyll and Hyde Lucie we've all come to know, love and hate.

I'm sure she'd be that nervous in the Prague Open (joke).

Agreed. She was too nervous. When she made two conscutive dfs in the first game barely reachin the net i knew it was over.Czechs could have chosen any of their countless journeywomen and they'd still have the same chances.

All part of the theatre of Fed Cup and Davis Cup tennis. You never quite know how a player will respond when playing such a big match for their national team, especially for the first time. Some players thrive on it, some struggle and some of the big names steer clear of it almost entirely. Often the way they handle big matches on tour is no indicator to how they will handle the pressure of playing for their national team.

Sveta played well. Nothing special. But Lucie was really bad..I mean REALLY bad. She was so shaky and frightened, mentally weak, nervous, Sveta saw it and felt she has the (mental) edge. Sveta of course knew this wasnt Lucie´s day so all she had to do was keep up the good level and not make UEs because Lucie will make them for you.

If Sveta beats Kvitova, then she is back.
