I was 10, and obsessed.

Now I'm old, and obsessed.

The Spice Girls really changed the face of pop music at the time, and their effects are still felt today.

I still remember my friend saying, "It would be funny if it were a joke but they're serious." :rolls:

I liked them though. :hearts: And my sister and I made a dance routine to Wannabe. I might still be able to remember some of it.

15 years once felt like such an eternity:scared:

I even had a Spice Girls' t-shirt:unsure:
And they had their own lollipops (I think:scratch:), and some sort of mini books
And this:

I'd add this song too, though:

Bananarama paved the way for them.

It's all cyclical, the only point I was trying to make was, the pop music scene really changed after this. There was an explosion of pop music with Backstreet Boys, Nsync, rising, then the pop princesses came, you can see the direct shift in the industry from the major success of the Spice Girls.

I'm not saying the Spice Girls created pop music, or the girl group, but when they came out in 96/97 the paradigm of pop music shifted. They were a direct catalyst for the upcoming groups.

I was 3 or 4 when I started liking them. :p I actually forgot about them for a few years, and listened to their songs again only a couple of weeks ago and still enjoyed it. Didn't realise (at the time) how sucky their video clips were though...

I never had a fave, although I don't think I've ever liked Posh or Baby Spice.

Oh man, has it really been 15 years? I feel so old now.

I remember once my sister caught me singing and dancing to "Wannabe" while using one of those old computer mics. I was 10, and that was the day my sister truly discovered hoy gay I am.

Agreed. But it wasn't really for good. The late 90s teen pop explosion was hideous.

But the Spice Girls were better, cause at least they didn't take themselves seriouslu. A lot of their singles from the first 2 albums were really awesome. I had to play some of their songs again to remember how :help: they are.

I was a rabid fan at the time. I can't stand them now apart from Mel C. Mel B's show on E! is embarrassing. Posh is a prat. Ginger unpleasant. Baby is boring. Maybe my tastes have changed but I actually think they were of their day and it has passed.

I saw Mel C in Blood Brothers though and she was excellent.

I listened to their albums the other day and they have not worn well. Interestingly Steps sound much fresher and more relevant, and their Greatest Hits has far more tunes. I don't think the SG's songs would cut it today.

Oh, this song and video are all-time greats. Spice Girls, Britney, N'Sync have nothing on these girls. If you want to do shitty music anyway, go all the way. It takes talent to deliver something as bad as this.

This, BIG time. They now sound anaemic. Spice Up Your Life still has fizz but it sounds like a novelty record. Abba also sound fresher and more dynamic. And their recordings are over 30 years old!

Gosh, I can't believe it's been that long.
I hated/loved them back then, that is, I wanted to hate them, but secretly they were my guilty pleasure. But nowadays Viva Forever is the only song of theirs I can really listen to.
I liked Mel C's early solo stuff, but I find it incredibly boring now.
