Wimbledon? Her shots sit up even more on grass. You could make a point out of her variety gaining success on the surface but I doubt she'll be able to employ it when she's facing an aggressive opponent. Basically, she could fool someone like Wozniacki with her variety, but she's pretty much a 100% NID win for someone like Kvitova.

Azarenka has already shown us that she has the game to win a GS. I guess it's just a matter of time. Radwanska is a very good player, but she lacks in power. Wozniacki... :D

It's far from a sure thing that any of them will ever win one, though Azarenka is probably the most likely at this point. Highly doubtful that Wozniacki will win one, and almost certain that Radwanska won't.

That one was tough.

I was trying to decide between Arad's sometimes aggressiveness/creativity-but weak power, vs Azarenka's better power- but sometimes passiveness. But then I remembered in the YEC finals, Vika got somewhat offensive in the second set (whence realizing she would lose the match), and won the set. That gave me hope for her.

So I picked her over Radwanska. But it was close.

Sadly for Caro, those are probably the two most people in the know, would pick first before her, till she proves otherwise.

Wimbledon is her best tournament? Really? Agatha lost to Cetkovska in R2 this year. And her record in Eastbourne hasn't been too fantabulous since winning it either.
This only confirms what I said earlier FYI, she gets hit off the court even quicklier on grass. Sure she can toy with the less-powerful players all she wants, but she gets overpowered SO quickly by a powerful and aggressive player like Li or Kvitova for example. Same goes for Wozniacki, except that she doesn't have an ounce of Agatha's variety.

I think Radwanska has the ability, but I'm not sure if she can keep it together for seven matches in a row against the best players. I can't see Azarenka or Wozniacki winning unless they either improve greatly or get very fortunate draws.

Amen! I know it's not news to anyone but I just need it to be said every now and then.

Hopefully Petra becomes Roger-like dominate and Sabine gets into the mix somwhere.

Has Azarenkas game changed that much?? In the past few years? Or is it her 'mentality' only. I can't see an improvement in her power or variety, the only thing I saw was her using more topsin against Li Na in the YEC ... and that's obviously a tactic she saw successful from Stosur.

But I guess her games better than Woz and Aga. Aga does lack power but her inside out forehand can be pretty strong, surprisingly - probably as good or better than Woz's backhand.

It probably is. Not just that, Aga has been implementing power into her game and so it can only get more deadly. Meanwhile, while Wozniacki is a lot more aggressive than in the past year, her BH doesn't seem as impressive as before anymore. She can't hit winners from nothing anymore, like she would used to on her BH wing while on the run or something.

You may actually be right, however whenever Wozniacki tries to be "aggressive" she makes unforced errors.

Can't really choose. I'd still say Caro even though her GS record wasn't that great this year...people seem to rig the draws for her...
Azarenka has more potential though. The way she can save MPs is  but at the same time, there are a lot of ways to beat her/a lot of ways she beats herself.

Aga is slightly overrated right now. I'd say an SF/F at a GS as her highest result is a little generous, but not unlikely either.

ExtremespeedX
Nov 4th, 2011, 03:14 AM
Vika has best potential, even if her GS results have been poor so far. I think she can grab a couple of AO's and a FO by the end of her career, if she keeps improving and playing her game. Aga can win a slam with favorable draw as well. The only player without a chance is Wozniacki, who will not win a slam ever.

She does have quite flat groundstrokes, so they zip through on grass more than on other surfaces. Her competent (albeit overrated) net skills probably reap more rewards too, and I've noticed she seems to move better relative to other top players on grass than on other surfaces, probably because of her low centre of gravity. Grass is probably her best surface for her playing style, but at the same time I'd say RG is her best chance of winning a Slam, simply because the standard of claycourt tennis is so low for the women that RG is the easiest to win by default for those not talented enough to seriously contend at other Slams.

Who are you comparing her "overrated" net skills to? Half of the WTA can't even hit a volley into the court.

Sorry, but Aga isn't winning Wimbledon with that serve :haha: Apart from lacking power on her strokes, her game is well suited to grass though.

I would say her best shot is at the French until she buys a serve and then she could be a contender at Wimbledon.

Vika will probably win an AO or two in the next few years with the possibility of also taking advantage of the rubbish clay court field at RG.

I can't see Wozniacki ever winning a Slam.
