It's a go for J.Lo and Ben Affleck
Actress confirms wedding rumours in interview
Sunday, November 10, 2002
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- It's a go for J. Lo and Ben Affleck.
The singer-actress confirms rumours that she's engaged to the actor in an interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer set to air Wednesday. The couple, who have been photographed kissing everywhere over the past few months, were recently engaged in a "traditional, but also in a very spectacular way," Lopez says. The couple met last winter while shooting the movie Gigli, in which Lopez plays a gangster sent to supervise a thug, played by Affleck, in a kidnapping.
She describes Affleck as "brilliantly smart," charming and affectionate. "My mother loves Ben," she adds.
The ABC interview was taped recently in Manhattan and in Lopez's old Bronx neighborhood.
Lopez didn't mention a wedding date, but the couple could tie the knot on Valentine's Day, according to friends and sources quoted in the Nov. 18 issue of People magazine.
Affleck, 30, has never been married. Lopez, 32, has had two previous marriages. She split from model-restaurateur Ojani Noa in 1998 after about a year and this summer ended a 10-month marriage to dancer Cris Judd. That divorce becomes final on Jan. 26.

I have a career idea for J. Lo. She will star in a movie called "Enough." But she is no battered wife in this new production. She plays a semi-talentless, annoying as hell, semi-attractive but only with make-up, pop diva who for some reason makes headlines all the time and loads of money and can do no wrong professionally despite awful acting, tepid scripts, and musical talent that would make Joni Mitchell dub Madonna as the talent of the century. Finally, after this "character" makes headlines after breaking up with her 10th love of her life in 10 months, all of the world--Arab and Jew, Black and White, West and East, Gay and Staight--all band together for the common good and say "Enough" and seize all of her money, give it to world charity, stick her on a one-way spaceship to the moon, and declare world peace!

J.Lo to Marry Ben Affleck
Singer-Actress Confirms Engagement
In an interview airing Wednesday Nov. 13, Jennifer Lopez tells Primetime's Diane Sawyer that she and Ben Affleck are engaged. (ABCNEWS.com)
The pair met last December while filming the upcoming gangster movie Gigli, which they co-star in. Their romance became public this summer when they were photographed kissing in public on numerous occasions.
During an interview with Primetime's Diane Sawyer, airing on Wednesday night, Lopez was at first coy on the marriage question, laughing and saying only that, "We're very, um, secure with our relationship."
But a few minutes later, during a break to change tape, Lopez thought a minute, called Affleck, and then said they had decided to go on the record.
Sawyer then asked, "Are you engaged?" and Lopez replied, "Yes."
A 'Beautiful' Proposal
Lopez, 32, said Affleck's proposal was "traditional, but also in a very spectacular way, as of course Ben would do it."
She added: "It was very, very beautiful."
She showed Sawyer the engagement ring Affleck gave her a pink diamond on a platinum band.
Asked how she would describe Affleck to somebody who had never met him, Lopez said, "I'd probably say that he is brilliantly smart, loving, charming, affectionate. And I just admire him in every way. I respect him. I feel like he teaches me things."
But before she got to know him, she had thought he was just one of the typical Hollywood "playboy types, skirt chasers," she said, adding, "I've told him, too. He knows."
'Same Kind of Background'
She said she realizes people might view her and Affleck as an unlikely couple.
"We've talked about this so many times," she said. "And we talked about how people kind of see him with one type of person and me with another type of person, and the two of us together is like 'How did that happen?,' and how we're probably more alike and from the same kind of background and, you know, same kind of upbringing and same kind of family and same kind of house."
Lopez said she is a romantic at heart.
"I am such a kind of artist in that way, you know, just such a flutter bug in that way," she said. "Where it's just like, you know, the idea of love and fairy tales and romance and all that."
Asked how she and Affleck plan to juggle their hectic schedules, Lopez said: "We have the next, almost, year planned out already of, like, what he's doing, what I'm doing, where we're going to go with each other, who's going to not work at this time. You really have to plan your life that way if you want to have a relationship in this business."
Lopez's first marriage, to model Ojani Noa in 1997, lasted a year. She split from her second husband, dancer Cris Judd, this June. Their divorce will be finalized in January.
This time around, things are different, Lopez said. Her feelings for Affleck are "bigger and realer" and "totally different" from anything she has felt before, she said.
Lopez also had a high-profile relationship with hip hop mogul Sean "P. Diddy" Combs. Affleck, 30, who has never been married, dated Gwyneth Paltrow
J-Ho is just plain nasty. She'll sleep with anyone just to boost her career. P-Diddy ruined her.

p-Diddy didn't ruin her career. He boosted her musical career. He gave it a shot in the arm.

I lost respect for Ben. While she was still married to Chris earlier this year, Ben took out full-paged ads in newspapers proclaiming his love for J.LO. That was pitiful and I hope their marriage goes up in smoke.

Ben pops the question to Jen
November 12 2002
Jennifer Lopez is finally giving the world the Lo-down on husband-to-be Ben Affleck.
After weeks of speculation about her marriage plans, Lopez made it official to American ABC's Diane Sawyer - saying she agreed to marry Affleck after he popped the question in a "traditional but very spectacular way."
"He is brilliantly smart. Loving. Charming. Affectionate," Lopez, 33, told Sawyer on Primetime.
Sawyer asked her, "Are you engaged?"
"Yes," replied Lopez, who was spotted recently wearing a Harry Winston engagement ring.
"I just admire him in every way," Lopez said. "I respect him, I feel like he teaches me things. He is my partner. He is my best friend. We talk about everything and we support each other to the end."
The couple is said to have circled Valentine's Day for the big date, but Lopez refused to confirm that. Affleck, 30, will be her third husband.
The two have been getting up-close and personal all over town in recent months. They were spotted snuggling in Central Park on the set of their movie, Jersey Girl, in which they play a big-screen couple.
Lopez admitted she and Affleck seem like an odd pair at first.
"People kind of see him ... with one type of person and me with another type of person," she said. "The two of us together is, like, 'How did that happen?"'
But she said the Pearl Harbor star knocked her off her feet with his wholesome, down-to-earth manner when they met last winter on the set of the mob comedy Giglio.
"We're probably more alike and from the same kind of background," she said. "Same kind of upbringing and same kind of family and same kind of house."
Even Lopez's mother, Guadalupe Lopez, who took a frosty line toward past glamorous boyfriends and husbands, caved in to her future son-in-law's charms.
"He won her over in true Affleck fashion," she said.
The two say they decided to go public with their romance because they couldn't contain their feelings for each other. Affleck appears in the video for Lopez's latest hit song, Jenny From the Block.
There is one little catch to the soon-to-be-happily married couple: Lopez is still officially married to Cris Judd and, under California law, their divorce can't be made official until January 26.
Before that, Lopez was married to waiter Ojani Noa and linked in a headline-grabbing three-year fling with rap mogul Sean (Puffy) Combs.
Lopez said she and Affleck already are planning their schedules to make sure their Hollywood romance stays on track.
"You really have to plan your life that way if you want to have a relationship in this business," she said. "There's going to be sacrifice. But what you gain in return is so much more fruitful and beautiful."
