2 challengers on their ranking? (3 but Poitiers points came off last week).

I can't think of many. If she gets the number 1 for example at the Australian Open which is possible she could be No.1 with challenger results on her ranking which I can't imagine has ever happened before.

She has no challenger results counting for her ranking right now, as they are not among best 16 results for her.

There is not enough points available

And remaining 2011 ITF-s are counted as part of 2012 season ;)

 She can whore like 3 ITFs and be #1 at the start of 2012 then. I guess that should be enough. :haha: :oh:

Her 16th result is too high. She could win every ITF remaining and it wouldn't increase her ranking points at all

What is Kvitova's 16th best?

Kvitova's 16th and 15th are 125 and 280.

The largest ITF's are 100k+H which give 150, so she could only benefit from one and only improve by 25. She is 125 behind Wozniacki.
If she entered late and asked for qualifying WC then she could get 6 more points for qualifying rounds (a #1 struggle in ITF qualifying would be epic) but it's still far from enough.

Wozniacki's 16th is 320 so if only 15 results counted then Kvitova would be #1. By the way, Wozniacki's 17th is 280 from the Copenhagen title which doesn't count.

Kvitova has two 125's in Premier 5 but the ranking of top-20 players must include their two best Premier 5 and she has 1, absent, 125, 125, 395.

She did not finish 2010 inside top 20 and does not have to count any P5 results, yet. She has to count at least one P5 result after she plays first P5 tourney next year and two after playing second P5.

I wondered whether this was the case so I checked the rules before my post to get it right.
From WTA 2011 Official Rulebook (http://www.wtatennis.com/SEWTATour-Archive/Archive/AboutTheTour/rules.pdf):

b. Top 20 Players
For players transitioning in and out of being a Top 20 Player, the following rules shall apply:

i. New Top 20 Player
As a new Top 20 Player participates in Premier 5
Tournaments, after she participates in her first Premier 5
Tournament, her best Premier 5 Tournament within the 52
week cycle must count on her rankings. After she participates
in a second Premier 5 Tournament, her (2) best Premier 5
Tournaments within the 52 week cycle must count on her
ranking.

And since year end rankings are used for top the 10/20 lists, then she havenīt played any tournaments as one.

There is a Top 10 chapter but that definition of a Top 20 Player is a parenthetical remark on page 56 in chapter III "ENTRIES/WITHDRAWALS/DRAWS/SCHEDULING", section III.C.4.a.I.
The quoted ranking rules are in chapter XIV "WTA RANKING SYSTEM", page 208. If the page 56 subsubsubsubsection definiton with no mention in the table of contents applies 11 chapters and 152 pages later then WTA has really made it hard to follow their rules, but I think you are right.

True, but it is very likely that she will not play anything but Hopman Cup prior to AO. So after losing her 280 pts from Brisbane, 100 pts from ITF Prague will become active, and it may happen that Petra becomes (after AO) no. 1 player with ITF result counting as the 16th tournament. It would be nice!
