We live in a dangerous world and those who are extremely wealthy need rigorous security. I would have done the same in her situation.

And yes, there are many people who have panic rooms, they're very popular for those who fear kidnapping, loonies, burglars etc. There was the awful case of the nutter who broke into Steven Speilberg's house with a view to rape and kill him and his family. Plus many more.

The reason for this sort of incident is that the only way players can possibly comply with the preposterous WADA "whereabouts" rule is to list the hotel or house where they will be sleeping and early morning as their whereabouts for that day. I accept that WADA have a job to do but some level of respect for players' civil liberties is surely in order. Tennis is a sport that is played 10 months of the year, week in and week out. I see no good reason why WADA couldn't take their tests at tournaments. There is no need for their piss takers to be snooping around people's houses at 6 am.

Get a guard dog Serena, WADA have got it coming.:toothy:

Find it hard to believe that after 15 or so years in the game that Serena would be surprised by the early arrival of a doping tester. This happens all over sports. Will this count as a missed test? Presumably if Serena misses a couple more, then she will be banned from the Olympics....

Personally I think there is something fishy about Serena's conduct - timing seems too close to her friend Kim Kardashian's divorce announcement - maybe she was 'comforting' the soon to be ex!

Umm there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a panic room--and FYI it's not exclusive to American celebrities... Do you have any idea how many families have their homes broken into and are hurt or even killed ??? I don't have a panic room, but I have a panic remote from the security company---and I'd freak too if anyone showed up on my frigging property unannounced at 6 a.m.

If you are a famous multi-millionairess you are vulnerable to all sorts of weirdos and attackers/kidnappers. There are numerous examples. I think it is perfectly understandable to have live in PAs (you can't expect her to live alone in a house in LA) as well as have a Panic Room. I would too. Indeed we have burglar alarms and panic buttons linked directly to the local police. All our neighbours do.

Don't forget as well her sister was murdered which is bound to heighten sensitivity. The reality is very wealthy people are vulnerable, and many all over the world (including the UK) take such measures.

I see many people here think this is funny but I can understand her reaction and am surprised people don't get it!

Aksel Lund Svindal recently blogged about being surprised at 6 a.m. for his doping test, which happened twice in the space of week (IIRC, see his blog). So it isn't just Serena who gets surprised. Also, they use different people, so you might not know that the person was an official, especially if s/he is peeping around the property trying to get in. As for the panic room story, I don't really believe it. It's TMZ. Someone is exaggerating, a hanger-on perhaps.

Anyway, some people will take any opportunity to knock Serena, even if they too would be nervous if someone was trying to get into their house at 6 a.m. and they weren't expecting anyone.

With all due respect, you're misinformed on this issue. Athletes do not pick the hour of their doping control. They do have to tell WADA where they will be every single day of the year, but they do not control the hour that WADA will show up. Virtually all tennis players complain about WADA showing up at extremely early hours. A few years ago, Nadal recounted how he finally had a bit of time off, and he went out with his friends to drink and dance. WADA woke him up at 6:00 AM while he was in bed with his girlfriend, still tipsy/hungover from the previous night's drinking.

The players have to give a specific hour every day to be available for a drug test.
Since it's you know you'll in bed when it's 6AM, that's the hour they give to the WADA.

It seems to me that it's actually Serena's assistant who is a drama queen. If Serena was informed 911 was called, it's only logical from her perspective to go hide in her panic room.

Now, surely people who are doing drug tests are dressed properly and don't look like crazy stalkers or burglars? I wouldn't be shocked to learn this assistant was new and overreacted, unaware of random drug testing going on that early.

Victor Troicki was banned for 18 months for failing to do a drug test when testers visited him

Serena Williams also failed to take part in a drug test the day testers turned up, no ban.

I know they are cracking down more on the drug testing these days, I wonder if Serena would get away with this 'incident' if it had happened this year?

there was an official police report which reached journalists about this case, WTA is concealing all data about this incident, but in the official report from ITF about antidoping program it's clear that this test sample wasn't taken out-of-competition this year from S. Williams.

Write a letter to WADA is it? And let us know of your findings.

Troicki has taken many tests and passed them all too. Troicki delayed his test for 1 day,as for Serena one test was cancelled because of panic room incident.

Then we check the consequences for these two athletes.

At least someone gets the point of the bump.

Serena also had NO test this year.

not saying she has something to hide,

but Troicki was recently banned for 18 months for basically the same thing, not providing a sample when testers came.

No, but there's a reason why you bumped this thread, and if you don't say it you insinuate it. Even a child could see through this. I am not a Serena fan, but you don't have nothing more substantial than your bitterness and silly speculations towards a player who trashes your faves again and again. Doping allegations without proof should be reason enough for a long term banning. What a pathetic bump from TF bandwagoner number one.

surprised no one bumped this recently.

I'm surprised you didn't know what would happen if you bumped a 2-year-old thread for no good reason.
