Title speaks for itself. What do you think were the most epic/great/fantastic matches on Grand Slams this year? :)

Australian Open:

Francesca Schiavone def. Svetlana Kuznetsova 4-6 6-1 16-14. (I don't have to explain :))
Venus Williams def. Sandra Zahlavova 6-7(6) 6-0 6-4. (Epic scream queens battle)

Li vs. Wozniacki also pretty epic :)

Roland Garros:

Arantxa Rus def. Kim Clijsters 3-6 7-5 6-1. (Saving 2 mp's in 2nd set)
Na Li. def. Petra Kvitova 2-6 6-1 6-3 (Petra up 3-0 in final set before Li roars back)

Wimbledon:

Venus Williams def. Kimiko Date-Krumm 6-7 6-3 8-6. (Amazing match with amazing tennis, felt bad for Kimiko though)
Sabine Lisicki def. Li Na 3-6 6-4 8-6 (Sabine! :D)

US Open:

Sam Stosur def. Maria Kirilenko 6-2 6-7(15) 6-3 (EPIC Tiebreak)
Sam Stosur def. Serena Williams 6-2 6-3 (Great tennis and of course Serena drama :p)

So what about you guys? Know any other epic matches? :)

Stosur - Petrova was probably the best in my opinion.

The quality of the Schiavone-Kuznetsova at the Australian Open is unmatched, by probably any match this year.

Makarova/Ivanovic and Sharapova/Goerges were good (both at AO).

Sharapova - Goerges match was the closest thing we've had this year of two in-form big hitters blazing winners past each other consistently...3rd set alone was a winners galore from both ladies:bowdown:

If I was asked to choose best slam matches of the year, I would pick these ones

1. Schiavone-Sveta

2. Venus-Kimiko
3. Stosur-Petrova
Bonus: Stosur-Kiri (mostly because of the 2nd set and the tie-break of course)

Please, Kim-Rus was crap.

My ranking would be :

1 Bartoli - Pennetta (Wimbledon) :worship:

2 Petrova - Stosur (USO)
3 Date Krumm - Williams (Wimbledon)
4 Kuznetsova - Schiavone (OA)
5 Goerges - Sharapova (OA)

AO: Sharapova/Goerges
RG: Kvitova/Li I guess, not many good matches either
EO: Williams/Date-Krumm
USO: Stosur/Kirilenko and Pennetta/Peng were the only matches of decent quality but no spectacularly good matches, much like RG

I don't remember the Goerges-Sharapova match being that good.

I think the Pavlyuchenkova-Schiavone match at the USO was pretty fun.

Schiavone d. Kuznetsova, bar none.

(Honourable mention goes to Stosur d. Kirilenko for the tiebreak)

when Pavlychenkova threw away the FO title when she lost to Schiavone

and when Na Li throwed away the Wimbledon title when losing to Lisicki

these 2 were the turning point for the whole season

I could agree with Pavlyuchenkova, but not sure about Li. Definitely NOT winning against Petra on grass.

Pavlyuchenkova blew such a huge chance on the other hand :tape: Its not even funny

have you noticed since Wimbledon how much Na Li has gone insane in her form? because of that Wimbledon loss. she knows it, trust me, I know it

I really can't think of anything else...?

I personally liked Kim vs Li in the AO final simply because it was a final that went to 3.

Probably Sexa and Fransexa - Sexas were too good. :cheer:

Stosur's US Open was mostly blah.

AO - Fran vs Svetlana hands down. Best match of the year too.
FO - Pavs vs Fran? Or Li vs Kvitova
W - So many! If I had to pick it would be KDK and Venus
USO - Stosur vs Petrova

AO
Fran-Sveta 3rd set only.
actually cant really remember the rest...
RG
Pavs-Fran only 3set match QF onward, and yeah Nastia blew it.
Junkovic-Fran also was enjoyable.
Bartoli-Görges, was some serious bitching/antics involved.
(Li-Kvitty is overrated. 1 alright set from Petra, and 2 errorfest.)
Wimbledon
Venus-KDK, Li-Lisicki chokefest, Marion vs Pennetta/Serena/Lisicki, and many others.
and of course Kvitova highlight reels.
USO
Stosur-Petrova, Stosur-Kirilenko
Pavs-Fran was okay-ish too.
Pennett-Peng I also remember.

I only have two:

1) Sam-Makiri, US Open
2) Vee-Date, Wimby

Oz & RG were kinda meh, IMO.

Venus-Date at Wimbledon and Sam-Nadia at USO were the best matches I saw, but I missed a lot, including the epic Fran-Sveta match at the AO. I guess most people didn't see all the matches either, but even so it's interesting how often the same matches keep popping up. There seem to be about 10 slam matches that a lot of people enjoyed. Doesn't seem like very many, but to be honest in other years there probably haven't been that many unforgettable matches at slams either.
