View Full Version : Already Brisbane can change No. 1 position

I don't know if everyone has recognised already but
WTA BRISBANE is 2012 a PREMIER Tournament.

Kvitova has won the tournament 2011, she earned 280 points for that.
Now, there are 470 Points for the winner.
A plus of 190 points.

1. Wozniacki 7485
2. Kvitova 7370

I know it doesn't change much,
but I think it's an interesting fact for the 2012 season,
that the first week can change no.1 position already.

If Kvitova wins Brisbane again she can possibly be the new WTA #1.

So, therefore Kvitova has to play Brisbane to have the chance to become World Nr. 1

Until, unless Petra plays something else before the Australian, we have to assume it'll be there where things can happen.

In Melbourne Petra will be defending a quarter final and Woz will be defending a semi-final. And the way things are going now, who would you place your bets on, that would defend their points? :help:

I know who I would pick. :D

They're both in Perth, not going for points.
But the #1 will change hands. And dont be surprised if Maria doesnt get there for a while.
She doesnt have that much to defend early 2012

Good Points Goldenlox

But I think Maria's 800 points behind Petra and 900 behind Caro right now.

Remember she's ranked 4th now.

So this means that Petra actually loses points which means that Caro's chances to stay at #1 longer increase. :bounce:

Wozniacki will be sure to do better in ther first tournament to get ahead of Barkova a little. Then, as the season goes on, Wozniacki's massively superior consistency will see her ahead of everyone else.

I don't think it's healthy to be obsessed about the no.1 ranking so I think Kviova will just take it as it comes. I assume she'll watch her greatest achievements this year from the YEC and Wimbledon and see her manic reactions at times during the YEC, hopefully she can knock that behaviour on the head because that's the only thing I don't like about watching her play. At Wimbledon she was even better and her reactions were so cool and calm she showed nothing to her opponents, Evert herself would have been proud of her reactions.

Maybe she's just not concerned about #1, you know, like she says?

The only people obsessed about #1 seem to be TF trolls..

Petra will have to play better on outdoor hardcourts to get to #1. She can overtake Caro early, but she has QF pts to defend at the AO and it isn't a given she will do it or do better. Then she has Paris to defend (only indoor tournament at the beginning of the year). She can get it during IW/Miami as she has nothing to defend there. If she doesn't it will be difficult with Madrid to defend and the clay season coming, and from that moment Caro will have little to defend.
Still Petra HAS to make it.

Well, I don't want her to turn into a robot (like Azarenka in the final :help:). I understand that the bark can be annoying to some people, but it's not bad that she shows some emotions. Actually, many people accused her of being too cold after winning Wimbledon.

Well, you know you can't please everybody. You do one thing, one way; they complain and say they want something else.

PS: I think Kvitova's goal is to exceed her 1/4 appearance in the Australian Open. That's why I think she'd scheduled Hopman Cup; cause at the time, she was still struggling with her form, then. If she can find a tournament to enter or wild card, before the Australian (besides Hopman), I'm sure she will.

I think there's a time and a place to react like that but she really went crazy after winning every point regardless of how it was done, she seemed in very little control of her emotions. I really like her and she has so much game but you have to admit it was quite manic and unnecessary at times. At Wimbledon she was quite amazing in how she handled the whole thing and the great thing about her showing nothing there emotion wise is that someone like Sharapova couldn't read how she was feeling and capatalise on it. I really hope she can continue to play like she has because she is an amazing player.

Kvitova wont be ranked first, thats given considering she is not playing Brisbane. But what about Vika or Masha? Will they have enough points? Are they playing in Brisbane? Do you guys know?

I think Vika can do well in Brisbane.

Wozniacki has to win Brisbane or Sydney for it to get on her ranking, and it would only be 150 extra points.

It just goes to show how unprestigious the WTA computer's "#1" position is doesn't it, when Real #1 can't even be bothered entering official tournaments when she's within sight of it

Too much fuss about the ranking  Petra will be #1 next year, it is inevitable. Whether is happens sooner or later makes no difference. Her demeanor somewhat reminds me of Federer in end of 2003 - "#1 rank would be great, but #2 is fine too".

Petra Won Brisbane last year right ?

Excelscior
Nov 1st, 2011, 04:41 AM
@Lang26

Yes!

But she decided to play Hopman Cup, before I think even got upgraded to Premier Level.

Its certainly good preparation (Djokovic performed in it, before he won the Australian), but no one knows her plans after Hopman/before Australian.

But I'm sure she's focused on it (the Australian); and wants to improve on her 1/4 final showing last year.

She plays Hopman Cup = 0 points :secret:

Caro has a lot of points to defend early 2012. AO 900 points, Dubai 900 points, IW 1000 points... Petra, Vika and Maria will get their chances. Unless Caro wins the AO of course :worship:

The entry deadline is November 28th, so there is still time but I doubt she would like to play that much before AO.

and even if Petra takes the #1 position (big chance), you can bet Princess Caroline gonna rush the Bogota-Monterrey-Acapulco swing to take her precious title back.

Defending AO points will be difficult with Serena and Kim being ranked 12 and 13. Someone has to play them and they have a history of playing their best in Australia.
I'm betting Serena will be #1 at the end of Wimbledon.

No. Probably not even if they won both Brisbane and Sydney. I think we'll all just have to wait and see what happens in Melbourne. ;)

Aside, I hope Kvitova and Tomas realise their undying love for each other during their doubles matches, have laughs and giggles and dinners. Win the trophy and look into each others eyes and realise they're meant to be. Ditch their partners and hookup. Winning the AO mixed doubles trophy :)

No, lol, fuck that, Kvitova, you better sharpen those volley skills during the Hopman cup doubles matches, then use those skills and win the AO singles or Serena.

Actually either is nice :)
