Zvonareva's level of play in these big matches is quite frankly pathetic and, as much as I like her, it's awful for tennis having her in these matches.

And there's absolutely no excuse with all the experience she has.

I almost wish Kvitova had lost the 1st set yesterday. At least Radwanska would have made it more competitive.

Nope, I can't say I'm satisfied about this performance. Way too passive, even pushing most of the time. Vika should send Vera a gratitude cake for her useless play today.

I can only be glad that Vika is in the final, but not about the way she did it. Beating Kvitova is nigh impossible from here. Also worried about the lack of celebration.

It is good Bepa wants to step up the aggression, but really? Missing routine returns off puffball serves? Poor stuff, even when she could easily overpower Azarenka when she chose to.

Vika  happy she's in the final, I don't think she played bad (even if this win is much Vera's "work") but she has to do more to beat Kvitty tomorrow. Really hope she raises her level and hope to see a nice match.
You could totally see she felt sorry about yesterday night, during the interview, that's what the lack of celebration was about, imo.

Vika too much balls down the middle without any kind purpose, too much shots missed off the FH side whilst attempting absolutely nothing etc... and the most outraging thing is that the very times Zvonareva would find the rhythm Vika would be put 6ft. away from the ball. :(

Good luck Vika anyways. :)

You could totally see she felt sorry about yesterday night, during the interview, that's what the lack of celebration was about, imo.:yeah:. Vera played attractive tennis today and created good positions for herself in rallies but she kept on missing the crucial points. If she had won the match by winning most of those points many would have thought this a good performance from her. Not a big surprise, Vera's hasn't been in really good form for quite some time now.

GL in final Vika :cheer:.

as me and dawntreader were saying on facebook, this match might as well have been a dubai qtr final. no sense of occasion, no fighting for dear life. just pointless rallies that ended in errors. vika just pushing every ball into play and serve as slow as ever, with vera having no sense of point construction or tightening up her game at crucial times.

this was a YEC semi final, but i often see more fight, effort and trying to win in 10k itf matches, were it is 3 points on the line and a few hundered dollars. disgraceful.

Interesting interview with Vika, she said that what happened yesterday was "disaster" and that she hope to get support from the crowd again. This is why she did not celebrate, it was kind of apology...

Unfortunately it looked sincere. She acted ashamed, like she had to apologize for reaching the final. That attitude wonīt give her any chance to beat Kvitova. Would like her chances more, if she had embraced her villain role.

The crowd was not going against her this match. Stop seeing things that are not happening.
She actually apologized to a crowd for not putting in full effort the day before, how many players do that? It really shows that she seems to like Istanbul and the crowds here (which is vice versa). This is not something a bitch would do.

The commentators on Eurosport said that Vika might be now on the edge so the lack of celebration was on purpose so that she did not lose control of her emotions.
Could be something about it since she is not one of the calmest players out there.

Azarenka doesnīt hit outright winners, but forces tons of errors.

Pushers allow the opponents to control the rallies, Azarenka has only done that in one set, today against Self-Destructareva.

I guess because she's smart enough to understand that someone may have not liked the way she played yesterday (which I personally do not condemn because it was a "useless" match), and she wanted to apologize...

I didn't watch the whole match between Vika and Marion when did the crowd went against her? Cause I watched the end and when her name was announced as she walks off court after losing I heard a lot of cheering. When was the time the crowd went against her? 2nd set? 3rd set? Did they actually booed her?

Anyhow Azarenka deserves the spot Vera couldn't even deal with herself she had many opportunities to break and many that could've hold serve but failed. If she could up her game and play at a level like when she played Pennetta then no doubt she would deserve the spot way more than Vika today. Even if she played at a level like she played Wozniacki this week would've been more competitive...

[...] I personally found that Zvonareva was more missing because of her inability to put any sort of attacking shots inside the court than Victoria forcing errors...

A quick look 5-15 (57), 24-47 (47) Vika only forced 5 errors to 8 for Zvonareva, which means over more than 60% of Vika's points were won on Zvo's complete stupidity in attack.

Anticlimactic. In this matchup, Toria used to be the main aggressor. Not so today.

Zvonareva was hitting much more penetrating shots throughout. It was the errors and the DFs that did her in. Zvonareva used to have a better FH than Toria, now they're about even - Toria's remains harmless, Zvonareva's has become unreliable.

It's clear she isn't a pusher. Some idiots on this board label players pushers when they don't hit 30+ winners. When in reality, a player can be aggressive without hitting tons of winners (like Vika).
