Vera is one of four 1-2 players in the YEC ... she is fortunate to be in the SF but what an opportunity to get some more points and $$$

Vera will win

she is fortunate for sure..but in fairness if she wasn't a head case she would have made it through on her own merit yesterday

Not sure if Bepa will recover from last night's disaster but she can compete with Vika if she wants to.

if vera brings the kind of form that saw her crush radwanska in the first set and defeat caroline she has a very good shot at taking this

Thanks. Basically who wins the first set would probably win the match.:oh:

TBH, I prefer Vika to win. Don't care whether Bepa deserves to be semis or not since she already is in semis, I prefer she lose in semis. We ALL know how Bepa will be in the final of a major event.:o So please lose Bepa. Stop embarrassing yourself.

This used to be a bad H2H match-up for Vika, but since the beginning of 2010 Vika leads 3-2 (including 1 retirement win last year for Vera).

In Vika's form... she will hopefully be able to win. :)

Good luck Vika!!!

Basically it depends on their form when they play. Except for their latest match, the highest-ranked player always won.
Considering their respective levels right now, I'd say Azarenka wins in 2, with few problems.

:( Really I was so confident Vika would get this now I'm more incline to think that Chokenareva will get this and quite easily... their last match in the YEC Vika came with no intensity whatsoever and got "slammed" all proportions guarded, this Bartoli match is everything to have Victoria come in a defective state of mind and that positive champion's aura she had been constructing around her these last past days -- while Zvonareva is all revamped (mentally), rest and fit... :fiery:

This is very interesting. Talent wise and conditions wise there isnt much of an advantage either way - they both have some power , are known for their fight, returns and both have better movement than fans realize. Both their serves can be good, but are usually average.

Here's the big thing - there were really only two girls coming into this who were physically and mentally fit - Az and Kvitova. I thought Woz was well rested, but she got sick to have another bad yec.

Zvonareva is totally fatigued. Always is at the end of the years. Its her body type and she goes au natural. She's fighting as hard as she can though. Azarenka was rightly trying to save some energy against Bartoli but it turned into a ClusterF. If she was going to tank , just lose right away - dont go 3 sets!??

Az should be fit physically and Zvon will be fatigued no matter how much time she had - she needs a month to rest not a day. BUT the crowd should be booing Az every step of the way! How will this effect her. Will she be angry and bludgeon Zvonareva and flip the crowd the bird? Or will she crumble emotionally, break down yelling and crying and give it away to a tired player?

Vika's performance will have given Vera a good long restorative laugh after the stress of watching Petra's roller coaster.

I hope she can use that to relieve her own stress, and play her "get out of jail free" card. Not expecting it, but it's quite possible.

Oct 28th, 2011, 11:19 PM
Laugh all you want, but I give Zvonareva a decent chance to win the title through Vika and Kvitova. Those are comfortable match-ups for her messed up head. She played like utter trash against Kvitova and still should have won the 2nd set. Kvitova is not comfortable at all playing Vera off-clay. And who knows, where Azarenka´s head will be tomorrow. Maybe Vera will loosen up over the ridiculous way she advanced to the semifinal.

Of course if she runs into Stosur, she´ll get murdered.

She should have won the second set? Petra was at one stage up 3-0 or 4-0, and it only even got close because she had a wobble due to it being her first match of the tournament. I do think Vera has a decent chance of beating Azarenka after the "fuckery" Azarenka put on tonight, but I definitely don't see her beating Petra... I think Petra's past defeats to Zvonareva have pretty much been coincidence (Australian Open was when Petra was still inexperienced, Tokyo was when she was still slumping), I don't think there's a particular match-up issue  She doesn't get as many balls back a Wozniacki or Radwanska, and Petra handles those two just fine.

Interesting to see where Zvonareva is mentally after her horror show against Aga. She has been so inconsistent this week, but has shown glimpses of quality along the way, particularly against Wozniacki.

I think Vera will race out of the blocks but Vika will pull it through in the end.

She tanked one match and didn't do it in a very clever or subtle way. The tennis world will get over it.
