Petra had her way in the Red Group where nobody had enough power to challenge her but it will be different tomorrow

I have a feeling Samantha will come out on top

Tricky match for sure. What's their H2H?

Tricky match. If this is the first match tomorrow, Stosur might have chance - Stosur in 3 (Their last encounter in Melbourne this year was awfully close). But I still believe Kvitova sails through in 2

Massacre.

There's no way I can imagine Shanksur can handle the canons that will becoming at her.

It's a good respite for Petra before meeting another pusher in the final, PID or Vera.

Petra SHOULD be able to take Stosur's time away and get through comfortably. Just needs to focus on making as many returns as possible. Isn't going to be able to go for home runs on every return like she did against Zvonareva, Wozniacki, and Radwanska.

I say Petra but if Sam wins I prefer Sam & Vika Finals

Possibly the best lefty serve in the history of women's tennis against a dodgey backhand? Sam played great today but this is a horrible match-up for her.

Lefty serve to a BH that is not the strongest. If Petra can keep it together I think it will be 2 sets. Maybe a TB in there somewhere

Watching them play in Australia this year I would have to favor Kvitova in this matchup in anything but clay. However Sam played really well today. Could still go either way, but I am thinking Kvitova. Azarenka (who will surely be the other finalist barring a huge upset) will be hoping for Stosur and not Kvitova obviously.

Pretty sure this is another Sharapova-like match-up for Stosur. Kvitova is tall enough that Stosur's serve/forehand bounces straight into her strike zone, and Kvitova's own groundstrokes are so flat and land so deep that Stosur doesn't have time to set up for her shots anyway.

Petra 6-3 6-2.

I think this surface somehow suits Sam's game, so we'll see. Maybe 3 sets.

That was before Sam's renaissance as a singles player. She was barely ranked in the top 150 at the time.

Petra's return is officially off this tournament so far and she hasn't been playing too well ( negative W/UE ratio).

But still I think Petra will win.

She didn't use the kicker much against Masha for that very reason. She does have other serves...

I voted Sam, and I think she's got a shot at winning this, but she'll need to be at pretty near the top of her game and play smart tennis. It should be a nice match I think, whoever wins it.

I believe Stosur will get her revenge tomorrow but she must take the 1st set or even a 3-setter match will benefit to Stosur. I would say Stosur in 3.:hearts:

Interesting match. They both are streaky, and at times played really well this week.
I think Petra has an edge but I want Vera to get one more chance in a big match with Sam

Sam will struggle. She got man handled in Australia, but kept it relatively close because of her serve.

Will be happy if she gets a set.

In the very last game against Vika Sam suddenly discovered that she could compete with her. A rematch could be very interesting :). But getting past Petra could be more difficult.

I like Sam slightly better as a girl, but I want Petra to win this tournament to be the player of the year, which is clearly is.

Petra would clearly deserve player of the year if she wins the YEC (and probably even if she doesn't), but I still want Sam to win.

I can't see Petra losing. Sam wouldn't be able to handle the serve to well, and if Sam tries to kick her serve Petra will most likely rape the return of serve :hearts:

Kvitova in two about 3 and 3 :D

I think it's unwise to already assume Petra has this in the bag. I think Stosur has a lot of potential to make this an extremely difficult match up for Kvitova. I really don't think their previous match this year at the Australian Open is a solid indication of how their semifinal match will play out, as Sam only really started playing decently at the Rogers Cup.

Tactics from the serve will be obvious. Stosur is going to try and kick her serve up on the Kvitova backhand, and Kvitova will try and slice out wide to expose Stosur's backhand. To negate this, Kvitova will really have to committed to taking everything early on the return, anything less could be disastrous. I'm thinking it will take a while for Kvitova to adjust to the nature of Stosur's serve, given that all her opponents from the red group really only possess vanilla serves. The flat first serve, and the attackable, slice second serve. For Stosur, it will be important not to allow Petra to break down her backhand wing, and ensure that if she doesn't get a decent swing, that she can at least slice the ball back relatively deep.

Initially, as numerous other people have already stated, Petra has come from a group where she has possessed far more fire-power than her opponents, so she's been able to hit her way out of trouble when the situation has required. This is unlikely to be the case against Stosur. Although Stosur does not quite possess the counter-punching abilities of most of the red group, she does however, have the ability to hit winners, something which Petra will has not seen very often his week. Although defence is usually not Stosur's forte, she has been moving extremely well by her standards this week, which is not a good sign for her opponents, and I have noticed in her round robin matches, she has been doing a particularly good job of ensuring that her opponents play the extra ball.

I can see where people might make the assumption that Kvitova might totally undo Stosur. She likes to take the ball early, like Azarenka, who has used this to great affect against her, however, Kvitova is not as fast as Azarenka. Stosur will need to use her heavily top-spun forehand to create angles and expose Kvitova's movement. It will also be quite difficult for Kvitova to attack the net in this match, as it's highly likely that she will be passed given the nature of Stosur's groundstrokes.

I think this match will be a battle from the baseline. Both will totally disarm the other should they come into net. It will be a case of whether Stosur has the time to set up her forehand and expose Kvitova's movement, or whether Kvitova can pummel the ball deep into the court consistently and force Stosur into errors. Given the slow, relatively high bouncing nature of the court, I think Stosur has a better chance than most here.
