Well, if she can gain her confidence at the beginning of 2012, she can also repeat the same thing like 2011, but and then she just lost herself again,,, I just can;t know why would it happen??? Asian player have less confidence??

It somthing about Player winning the FO and after that the Fall Comes and seem to never stop Ana,Kuznetsova,Li Na, (Schiavone) really didn't have that many bad losses after she win the FO but she out the top 10. Li Na gotta alot point to defend at the beginning of the Year for 2012 it could get ugly if she playing like this

Even if Li lost R1 in the Australian Open, she'd still have 4325 points, which as things stand at the moment would be enough to place her at #11. I think she'll be fine heading into the FO - it's easy to forget that she went into a slight slump between the first two slams.

After RG though she could find herself with major problems if she does poorly at both slams. I don't quite see it getting that far though.

I think Na will surprise a few people at the start of next year.

Im sure a lot of people thought she wouldn't defend her semifinal points in Australia this year before the season started and then she won Sydney and went one better at the Open.

That said I think Peng Shuai will become China's number one player at some point in the first few months of the year ;)

I really think this confidence issue is more about losing to Lisicki at Wimbledon, and not her RG triumph.

How many times have we seen Na Li come back and fight her way in matches. She did it to Clijsters in Sydney, to Dementieva in Sydney a few years ago. She beat Serena Williams once after dropping the opening set 6-0. She came from MPs down to Wozniacki at Oz.

Na Li has always been a fighter, who seemed, in the biggest of moments to come up with the goods when she was faced with it.

The Wimbledon match was the first time she choked MPs like this, in such an important match since she's become a top flight player. For some players you can look at matches that started a slump or change of belief (Hingis at OZ vs Capriati , Pazsek against Jankovic),and I think this match was it. If she had won that match, I really fancied her chances in going far.

After that she had back to back losses to Stosur, which would've happened likely anyway, with how badly Na is in that match up.

Then we go to the Pilot Pen, where again she puts herself in a winning position, takes a lead, has match points against Cetkovska , and again chokes it away.

Na Li was never a choker before that Wimbledon match (although I whole heartedly believe Lisicki won those MPs of course).

Then we saw her lose that second set in stunning fashion against Halep. Na had a history of bouncing back from a first set loss and coming back, especially at the USO, but she never found that fire while she was behind like she consistently has done as a top player.

I think all of that was too much for her and it ruined the rest of her year. I think there's a clear catalyst to the struggles at the end of this year, but I believe she'll get it back.

Last year from the USO Series to the end of the year, she only won back to back matches at one tournament at Beijing, going 4-6.

Look how she bounced back.

unless na comes back fresh next season she's definately set to plunge in the ranks..early losses in everything up to and after the french would probably have her clinging to the top 50

as her fan i hope she comes back and does well next year and returns to being the Na we all know can play because its been hell after the french this year

People expected far to much from Li after she won the FO anyway. Not to take away from her talents, but she isn't the type of player who can win big tournaments in second or third gear like Serena or Kim can. At her best, she's one of the top girls on the tour, but on an average day, she's just a good Top 10/15 player, which is what she's been for most of her career.

Her French Open title was in no way a fluke - she deserved the title so much. But the truth is, she made both of her slam finals by hitting a purple patch of excellent form and maximizing her potential. Whilst there's absolutely no reason to think she couldn't do that again, there's no guarantees that she ever will either. People expected her to become the next #1 or whatever, but thinking about it, how was that ever likely to happen? Her career trajectory is impressive in the grand scheme of things, but modest compared to the leading girls on the tour. Her slam finals were achieved by peak Li Na, not everyday Li Na.

Again, I see no reason why she couldn't hit another hotstreak and take another slam title. I just don't see why people were so surprised when she "underachieved" after the slam win. Her performance post FO has been a lot worse than it should have been, but if we're being honest, the standards set for her were far to high given her career up until early 2011. Of course the poor girl is going to underachieve if you set her targets that she realistically can only make by playing peak tennis every match.

 Aren't you the one who is always making these ignorant statements about China? Li doesn't even play under the China's sports system, she is independent, so your argument really has no validity.

Na Li is a typical player who cares about more about the money than the game. She doesn't even deserve top 100 ranking after her displays after FO.

It doesn't matter. The Chinese media still wholeheartedly embraces Li Na even if she did leave the sports system. She brought Chinese tennis into the spotlight.

not the pressure of the governmente itself, but the pressure of an entire nation yes, something that sam, or petra I'm sure don't feel. and she can't deal with that. it's clear.

Na was so great up until she won the French Open. Given the fact she was always injured and still kept coming back to the top 20 then broke the top 10 finally showed how good her game was.

She was constantly improving so I think it was natural that people's expectations got even higher once she won Roland Garros.

I almost forget she won that slam because she's been so horrible ever since. Obviously Im glad she won it but I miss the Na from before instead of this slumping slam-winning endorsement vacuum :o

The same thing happened to Myskina (minus the endorsements)

It's not as though Li has ever been a model of consistency at any stage of her career. All arguments that this girl only cares about money, lacks motivation and should just retire because she's a shadow of her former self fall flat on their face because despite the fact that she's very up and down she's just had the two best seasons of her entire career.

x2 This is the most consistent she's been in her entire career. Half the titles she owns were won in the last two years, she only has 6. I'd say she is doing pretty well for herself.
