That is won 3 RR matches and went on to win the title. I think Petra has a great shot to do it this year. What past winners have gone 5-0?

I think Henin did in 07.

She beat Hingis, Bartoli, Jelena, Ana and Pova I believe.

I might be mixing 06 and 07, but I'm too tired to look it up

Justine's 2007 is so weak, comparatively.

Yeah, it wasn't the most difficult road because the other two slam winners that year (Venus and Serena) withdrew from the tournament. But Henin's match with Sharapova in the finals was a really great match that it makes up for her otherwise easy road. Venus and Serena also weren't able to play due to injury in '03 when Clijsters won.

Serena played terribly the last two sets. She withdrew after the match, though I don't really remember her being injured in the match. The tournament turned into a round robin in '03, so every winner before then was undefeated to win their titles because it was single round elimination.

Kvitova can be the only one to win everything without losing a set. It will be easy if she keeps her brains in the proper place without meltdowns. She is set a powerful, delightful, beautiful player. She can be a queen and put order in WTA Tennis.

Beating Venus twice in the same tourney though is another matter entirely.

Is this the only double bagel in this event? I remember the match well. It was a mix of wonder at the tennis Justine was playing  and sympathy for poor Marion who was getting trounced on court and yelled at by her dad at the changeovers.

Same thing can be said about Serena in that FO 2003 QF for crushing the beautiful spirit of Amelie Mauresmo in front of her own crowd, and reveling in this most sadistic act. At least Bartoli was really a bitch with Justine and thought she was really something for beating her in Wimbledon.

Presumably that would apply to any player that ever won a match 6-0 6-0 then? Was Graf vile for beating Zvereva 6-0 6-0 in the French Open final, Hingis for handing a double bagel to Monica Seles in Miami or Davenport for humiliating Sharapova 6-0 6-0 at Indian Wells? And Sharapova herself dealt possibly the most humiliating blow of all when she beat 15 year-old Sesil Karatantcheva 6-0 6-1 at Wimbledon and strongly implied at the press conference afterwards that she had given her that one game out of charity.

God Petra is a fricking legend. Crazy to think she was just a midcard sub-30 ranked player at the start of the year and rocketed up to #2 with a Wimbledon, Madrid, and YEC title and is a few good results away from the #1 at the beginning of next year.

I knew when I saw her match 1 this week that nobody was beating Petra this week. I mean she donated 2 sets this week out of pure brain fart errors and it was NID at any point.

I couldn't agree more, including the Venus part. It's just his/their pathetic way of being passive agressive, since he's around long enough to know the status of both Russian players being mentioned very well.

The future of women's tennis...

The Woz is over and done. And Radwanska is no absolute top imo, although her variety game is very plesant to watch, but she lacks the power and the spirit of a real champion. That's why Kvitova is the real deal. She has everything. Finally, the next generation has arrived, except that for it to be the ideal situation she has to beat the big 4 first.
