View Full Version : Possible interesting scenario in the White Group

Let's say Bartoli wins the only match she plays against Azarenka in straight sets, and that Li beats Azarenka in straights and Stosur loses to Li in straights as well (somehow). Then the group standings will as as such:

Li 3-0 matches, 6-0 in sets
Bartoli 1-0 in matches, 2-0 in sets
Azarenka 1-2 in matches, 2-4 in sets
Stosur 1-2 in matches, 2-4 in sets

If I recall correctly, in the case of a tie in matches won, we first go down to absolute number of sets won, and if there's still a tie, number of sets lost. So according to the standing above, Bartoli should advance? Or is there some by-rule which states that actual number of matches played actually counts, or that Bartoli "inherits" Maria's result in the YEC?

I think the first tie breaker is number of matches played - so Bartoli would be out anyway.

Either way, there's no way Bartoli beats Vika in straights the way she's been playing yesterday.

Yes, yes, I know it's gonna be highly unlikely, but I'm more interested in the rule. kbw72688 said there's a tiebreaker in terms of matches played, any official source on that?

Thatīs another problem of the WTA. Clear rules. I canīt even find them for the YEC.

First tiebrekaer H2H
Second tiebreaker H2H sets
Third tiebreaker H2H games

That is fairly simple, but nobody seems to be really sure how it all works.

So what does highest percentage of sets won and games won mean? Between the tied players or all players? They canīt even write their rules properly.

Thatīs crucial for Wozniacki, Zvonareva and Radwanska. If Wozniacki loses 1-2 to Kvitova, she has a decent chance to advance if all matches count, while she is 100% out, if only the H2H between the tied players counts.

Any H2H is only if 2 players are tied Ithink...

That kind of sucks :awww:

Whats the actual point of Bartoli showing up? $$$$$?

In this kind of scenario I wish they could just WC a player in for a laugh. Like giving Baby Anci a WC into Istanbul instead of Bali and watching her get pulverized by Azarenka. Thats something everyone can enjoy :oh:

For $110,000, I'd put on drag and get my but kicked by a female tennis player.
