Incredible fight from Sam in the end but Vika was too good.

Bow down bitches. That was f**king good.

Sam was total shit until the end. Side effects of only having a short window of recovery time? Now she knows how Serena felt. :o

Make sure when Maria's Genius can not deal with the scrubs there's always family behind to back up :worship: That's how it goes...

Vika is just too much for anything Stosur can do, too much game, timing, power, consistency... too much net play, transitioning etc... I don't even know where too choose so much Vika dominates the australian in each and every department ok, perhaps bar movement.

5 matches still not a set lost, that's how it's done Maria. Next time.

Vika's 3 last matches to Sammy has been TOTAL wipe outs.

Told you so, easy peasy. Snickers simply did what Martha couldn't do yesterday due to her rustyness.

Also laughing at the fools calling me a fanboy for merely stating the obvious facts about this match-up.

March on Vika. :cheer:

Stop with the excuses about Sam getting the shaft with the schedule. Maria has the same issue. Vika was incredible. One of the best wins of her career. Sam plays Na in her final match. That could determine who moves on to the semis. It doesn't really matter, cause Petra's winning the whole thing, anyway.

Sam really wasn't there today. Just seemed to be either too passive, hitting unforced errors, or getting pinned to the corner hitting backhands. Hope her hand (and her brain) are not suffering too much going in against Li Na.

Good job Vika; she played really well.

Anyway, US Open champ beaten like any random Niculescu in Luxembourg... WTF tennis once again. Vika played insanely good, Sam played insanely shitty.

Sam's game was nowhere tonight (except the last game) but Vika was very solid all match and really deserved this win, so well done.:yeah: Sam, don't get too down on yourself, shit happens:hug:

Vika is Stosur's nightmare match-up. Flat strokes, not overly paced, well-placed balls, especially those that land angled on Sam's backhand side, great neutraliser of the 1st serve and fierce returns off the second, and just much better footwork. Sam's only chance was to serve big and just go crazy on the forehand side, but that was just improbable. Sam could have gone after those returns more I guess, but the early tempo of the match did not give her much confidence, and Vika's 1st serve percentage was high. The last game showed a glimmer of what Sam could have done to beat Vika, but even then it is going to be a tall order. You need to either have the flat power to beat Vika, or have the ability to outgrind her which few people can.

expected, but not such huge onsided scoreline. however, sam has still all the chances for the semifinal, a 2-0 win against li and she should make it. vika is a hot favourite for the title imo. :)

Wow Vika totally owned Sam through out the match. I'm just disappointed in Sam not being able to play like yesterday until the last game. Expected a better and tighter game then this kind of beat down at least.

You've got to be kidding me - Vika wipes the FLOOR with Sam on movement. Stosur's movement is quite poor - it might be due to the accumulation of weight on her upper body IMHO. The only area where Stosur might be better is serve, but Azarenka nullifies that with a great return.

I don't think the time between matches would really be a massive problem. This scoreline is pretty much the same as the scorelines from their last two matches; Vika's just got the wooden spoon over Sam.

Very, very solid from Vika minus the nervous fuckery at the end of the match.

I think the format of the YEC exposes one of Sam's weak points: consistency. She can play great one day, crap the next; regardless of the schedule. Vika was simply too steady for Sam, something Pova couldn't do yesterday.

It's probably because Stosur has short legs for her height.

Watching Stosur and Azarenka is like watching a battle between an illiterate and a literature professor. What I mean by that is that Azarenka has no problem to read Stosur´s movements and stroke selection. While Azarenka often struggles to find the correct (finishing) ball in other matches, she seems to know what Stosur will do, before Stosur does. She has almost perfect anticipation of Stosur´s (defensive) game. On the other hand Stosur seems to have no read on Azarenka, especially the serve. As a result she is totally freaked out and cannot relax.

Interesting fact: Last three years hardcourt indoors record of Azarenka is 10-0 with 20-1 sets.

That could have been anyone from the top 100 on the other side of the net and they would have been up by a hell of a lot against Sam, she was abysmal. Had she played like she did in the last game all match then it would have been a great spectacle because Azarenka played solid to well when pushed. A very mature performace but difficult to gauge in all honesty, Sam just handed it to her on a plate.

wow how badly did sharapova play yesterday?
I know everybody writes Azarenka off as second tier but she's probably the most impressive to me of the new top players despite slam results saying otherwise.

Good fight from Sam in the end, saving two MPs before finally bowing down to Vika. Too bad about the first game and that missed overhead, as well as the break chance opportunity (probably too) late in the second set.

 Don't thump me... :p I pretty much said Vika owns Stosur in everything but you gotta find something where Stosur's good at in this match up... Serve but Vika eats it alive, seems to me Sammy moves slightly better though everything she does looks cramped, robotic and very unnatural.

imvho Sam wasn't bothered. she has one win, she must be confident of beating Na Li (h2h 5-0) so just took it easy this match, especially given the scheduling.

if it means improving her chances of progressing then you look at the bigger picture. so what if she beat herself up to win this match when it was always going to be very hard, but left herself in a bad state going forward? not worth it when qualification looks very likely already. a bit like if you know you have a LL spot, why kill yourself in qualies?

Anyway, Caro vs Vika for the final, I think.

You're kidding right? Those 4 games won can come back to haunt her. With Maria's loss, this will be a very tight group, especially that Na isn't as AWOL as we all thought she would.

Sam was very clearly devastated by today's humiliation.

Worst I have seen Sam play since Wimbledon. First set and a half it was a question of whether she could get the ball over the net for 5 shots in a row. She usually failed.

A Shanksur moment.
Good for the game.
I still can't believe Mugsur has won the Us Open
Serena
Hope she will be out of the top 10 sooner or later, she doesn't deserve to be in the top 20 either: she has a robotic game, totally expected one, no backhand etc...
Well, finally, maybe she deserves to be in the top 10 as WTA is a joke.

Toria's game is indeed limited, but she's certainly making the most of it as her shot selection as of late has been absolutely flawless. This means that, even though she can't overpower elite opposition, she's nearly always in control, and always knows what to do - she may be graduating from an underpowered wannabe basher into a clever counterpuncher.

Then again, Stowzer was so awful she'd have made Meusburger look like Djokovic today. Amusing to see someone so low-key get so visibly pissed off though.
