Disappointing sales after the first week, i don't think it will outsell The Fame.
Total album sales in the US after four months are 1.79 million copies.
What went worng?

Hyped too much, cheap sale of album which eventually cost the longevity of the album sales. plus what's she doing nowadays? She's almost disappeared after her appearance in the award show.

A Gaga hating thread.

Mediocre pop. Her first three singles were actually good.

Haters gonna hate, but some of the songs were quite good. I would not call it a mediocre album. Maybe the initial marketing was too over the top.

What is she doing? She just did an hour long concert last night closing out the IHeartRadio Mega 2 Day Concert in Las Vegas, also performed 2 songs with Sting.

She'll be singing for Bill Clinton's Birthday, she has a fashion video coming out during Paris' Fashion Week, she will be going to India late in October to perform, she leads the MTV EMA's. Cher has a song coming out that Gaga wrote and will be dueting on. So I'd say she's doing pretty good.

So 1.2 million copies in the first week and 0.59 in the remaining 12-13weeks ?

Still the #2 selling album of the year in the US. Obviously disappointing by her standards, but still has to be considered a success in context with her peers.

Wait another 6 months or so and you will be able to buy the album for 50 pence at the Music and Video Exchange. Although speaking personally I would rather spend my 50 pence on something that is going to give me a bit more pleasure, like a chocolate bar.

These numbers look good to me considering we're living in an age where Internet has turned buying music records into an act of volunteering.

Adele sold more than three millions copies of 21 in the US alone with no hype.
You would expect GaGa to sell at least more than two millions at this point.

No pleasing some people, everything she does has to be incredible

The trouble is that everything she does (new videos, performances, crazy outfits, etc.) is always so out-there in an attempt to be incredible that it's lost its shock factor.

I do like some of the songs on her album, but I'd much prefer just to listen to them rather than see her on TV.

Yeah the funny thing is that she is one of the very few who can entertain just by singing and playing the piano.

Yup I think most people are just bored of her. The album has some good songs but none of them are mega hits or club bangers.

I loved the Fame so much!!! This album has been so disappointing. It's a decent album, but far from what I expected.

This album in far worse than the previous one, that's what went wrong.

Damn, everyone's going in.

I just think her image for this era is lacklustre. I don't hate it but I can understand why it's not appealing to the general public. Judas should have been a smash but she handled the video/promo so poorly. And TEOG is my favorite song of her's ever, but the video was such an epic flop. Both of those songs had potential to be mega hits, but the public never quite got interested in it so her album lost steam. :o

That'd be my prognosis as well. She was completely over-exposed, and people love to turn against the Next Big Thing.

I actually loved the album FWIW, and I'm not even that hot on pop music.

She peaked in The Fame Monster, that album and mostly the singles are so great that BTW just pales in comparison. Also everything is happening so fast with her career that it's getting old seeing her everywhere.

Horrible choice of singles.

:bigclap: And I know Gaga isn't deaf, I just don't think she gives a fuck. She is an artist through and through. I will give her credit for that.

But this album has good singles. She just chose not to release any of them. :bigcry:

Since when do artists like her choose their singles? Some people don't seem to realize there is a big team behind mainstream artists, starting with the record company. They're the people who choose which songs are most likely to be hit, with group tests and such. Also, just an example, it's funny to see her team ripping off Beth Midler for a TV performance, but Gaga doesn't even realize the reference until Midler bitches about it on Twitter.

I agree that she peaked with The Fame Monster, and the next album was never going to be as good. Let's put this way: the non-singles of the Fame Monster are better than BTW singles. There are good songs on the album though, like "Bloody Mary" or "Government Hooker". Also at this piont she has such a strong base of fans, it's hard to see her going away like, ever. She'll probably be around for a long time.

Well the songs are not nearly as good and edgy as the ones in "The Fame" Very simple.

The promotion of the realease was ridiculous. Weren't there like 4 singles out already by the time it hit the stores?. They were so desperate for the 1 million first week sales that they didn't left anything left for later...except that annoying alter-ego trick.

I felt like Born This Way lost a lot of its casual listeners because of the content and the style. It's too much for me.

The Fame and the Fame Monster had some GREAT songs because they were more formulaic pop with less charged messages in their lyrics but still had Gaga's style.

Well those fans seem to care more about the image and videos than the actual music. She is just repeating Michael Jackson and other megastars in overdoing the hype and not being able to keep outselling her previous stuff, but her music is still better than most of what is out there. Whatever she does now, people will stare at it and say "well its not as good as The Fame is it?"

I like BTW, Judas and You and I. I've got BTW on New Zealand's "Now" album series, and I'm expecting the other two to crop up on the next couple so I don't really plan to buy the album.

Down to 41 this week.
Can she get back to top 20?
"Mary The Night" has the potential to be her biggest single since "Born This Way" and it might help her sales to go up before the year ends.
Not sure about next year though.

i'm really not here to defend this horrible record, but wikipedia says:
- as of October 2011, Born This Way is the second best selling album of 2011 in the United States, with sales of 1,900,000 copies.

and more iportantly:
- As of October 2011, worldwide sales of Born This Way exceed 8 million copies.

Absolutely not. 21 hasn't dropped from the top 10, maybe even top 5, since it came out.

Well I guess that means even without that 99c Amazon scheme she would've sold about 7 mill? That's pretty legit :yeah:.

It's still 2nd best selling album of the year in USA.
But yeah it certainly doesn't have the legs The Fame had.
Maybe if she finally makes a good single choice next year, it might help the sales.

I think "Bloody Mary" is an absolutely terrific song. I dislike GaGa for the most part but I think that's my favorite song from her. Her choice of singles are awful--"You and I" is just not a good single choice, imo.

The poor choice of singles is the album's downfall! Born This Way as first single OK since it is supposed to be an anthem and carry a message, but the next ones should have been Hair, Scheiße ...
