Bartoli set to Bounce Back

South African, 18 year old Luna-Willow Bartoli will return to the Tokyo Pan Pacific Open as the Defending champion. A 5 time Tier 1, 3 time Grand Slam Finalist, Luna-Willow is looking to make a resurgent comeback onto the FWTT tour, after a somewhat lackadaisical post Wimbledon swing.

Luna-Willow made her first public appearance yesterday, after rumors had spread that she and her long time doubles partner Martine Kartincova, were considering taking some time off tour to go on an around-the-world vacation. An excerpt from the players party:

"You know, it's great to be back. I'm sorry to my leave loyal fan base in dismay, but I have really been lacking motivation the past few months. Nthama has helped me get back into a bit of form, and i'm excited to see how I will go here this week."

When asked about the current state of the tour...

"It seems not long ago that I was the fresh young face, shining star of the FWTT tour. But there are so many new players, with the addition of the junior tour, that I'm starting to be considered a veteran of the sport. I feel I've hit a plateau this year, after some excellent results towards at the start of my career, I have not backed this up with anything special. Nonetheless, I'm ready to but in the effort to get back to the top."

Sep 25th, 2011, 02:24 PM

:bounce: Let's keep up the great results and march towards the YEC Sabine! :bounce:

Sam L
Sep 29th, 2011, 09:35 AM
Regla Torres comments on the Vittoria Perez "retirement" and her getting booed by the crowd

"Basically, I think she just got scared. You know a lot of players you can see they lose a match mentally before getting out on court because they don't believe they can win. This was the case here. She just didn't look like she wanted to be on court. I forgive her but the crowd might not and I think it's poor form for the tour."

Interviewer: "So Regla, you don't think there was anything wrong with Perez?"

"No, absolutely not. I think she was fine but I think she just didn't want get double bageled or something. I lost to her at Wimbledon but that was before I started to take my tennis seriously and started to train. I was like 10%. Now that I'm back near 100%, she knew that and that is the choice she's made."

Torres went on to beat good friend Ruflina Taliamanosoko in the second round avenging her for her loss at the US Open as a train passenger looks at movie posters of Torres on the platforms of the Tokyo metro.

Court-side interview with Regla Torres

Interviewer: Congratulations Regla, first semifinal here in Tokyo.
Torres: Thank you, I'm so excited to be here and to be playing so well. The crowd has been fantastic.

Interviewer: Did you think before this tournament that you'd be doing this well here?
Torres: Of course, I think you need to believe in yourself and think that in every tournament but yes it's been a little surprising.

Interviewer: Next up is Sylvie Bailly, who is on an 8-match winning streak. Thoughts on the match?
Torrres: I think it's going to be tough. I've been in her position earlier this year. When you're confident, you're confident. But I'll do my best also.

Ah, pity about finishing runner-up, but it's a nice return to form for Ziyi and Jane. Hopefully they can get back in the running to the YEC somehow. Holding thumbs for a good Beijing result!
Congrats winners :yeah:
Regla  Good week for her though!
