Singles Results, First Round

Regla Torres def. Miranda Bothavska 6/3, 7/5
Regla is now going on her 11th year of playing on the tour and was easily able to handle the pressure that the young Bothavska faced.

Ariel Aries def. Chantal Chan 6/4, 2/6, 6/4
This was a shocker as Ariel took out the US Open semifinalist who was on quite a tear.

Jookkarae Mensarb def. [6]Giuseppina Benedetti 3/6, 7/5, 6/4
Jook has been playing phenomenally well while Giusa has seemed distracted so this wasn't a surprise.

Berenika Wojnarowska def. [8]Samantha Soren 5/7, 7/6(2), 7/6(6)
Berenika is able to take out Samantha, whom we now consider in an official mini-slump.

Mia Henriksson def. Vittoria Perez 7/6(0), 6/7(1), 7/6(5)
Mia was a surprise player at the US Open doing so well. This match today against Vittoria went the distance, lasting over 3 hours.

Anastasia Nemayeva def. Emilia Jarocka-Pottinger 6/4, 3/6, 7/6(4)
Em was a surprise quarterfinalist at the US Open, but Anastasia wanted this match more and it showed in the tiebreaker.

Susan Day def. Caroline Smith 5/7, 7/6(2), 7/6(6)
Susan finally notches her first win of her young career against the American Caroline in a third set tiebreaker that was thrilling.

Lindsay Galbraith def. Jessica Hykova 6/4, 2/6, 7/5
This match could have gone either way, but Lindsay took it in the end.

Yelena Pirilenko def. [5]Athea Kane 7/6(5), 7/6(0)
Athea is slowly going down the ranks and Yelena helped that cause today.

Alexandra Anastadis def. [7]Sabine Graf 7/6(2), 7/5
Alexandra has been on fire this summer and gets another outstanding win against Sabine.

Clair McKrain def. Aleesha Stosur 6/3, 6/0
Clair did well in New York and carried that over in this match against Aleesha.

Ling Zhang def. Cristina-Elena Vladimirescu 4/6, 7/6(6), 6/4
The young Ling got a surprise close win over Cristina and now faces a mentor in Ziyi.

Singles Results, Second Round

[1]Siri Cornetsson def. Regla Torres 7/6(4), 0/6, 6/0
Siri continues to show her amazing consistency which is why she is the top seed in Quebec. Regla suffers another pre-quarterfinal loss.

Jookkarae Mensarb def. Ariel Aries 2/6, 7/6(5), 6/2
Jook's amazing play continues and defeats the newcomer in a come from behind win.

Berenika Wojnarowska def. Mia Henriksson 3/6, 7/6(0), 7/5
Berenika has been clutch in these tight sets and moves to the quarterfinals with this win.

[3]Jane Wong def. Anastasia Nemayeva 7/5, 6/4
We finally see signs of life from Jane who has been playing dismally the past month.

[4]Sylvie Bailly def. Susan Day 2/6, 7/6(3), 6/3
Susan couldn't win two matches in a row and fell to former #1 Sylvie.

Yelena Pirilenko def. Lindsay Galbraith 6/4, 7/5
Yelena made quick work of Lindsay to move on to the quarterfinals.

Alexandra Anastadis def. Clair McKrain 6/4, 2/6, 6/4
Another impressive win for Alexandra who is proving she belongs on the pro tour.

[2]Harper Johnson def. Ling Zhang 7/5, 7/6(5)
Harper is able to end this match in two sets and is back to her pre-US Open ways.

Season-ending Number One wins her first title of 2011 season
http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTk3NjIwMzAwOF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwNDgwNDk1._V1._ SX330_SY400_.jpg
Sylvie Bailly (FRA), the player aspiring for Worst Performance of #1 Player award this year, has finally got over some part of her bad demons and won the first title of 2011 season in Quebec City, Canada.
This season is extremely bad for Bailly as only notable results she achieved were a quarterfinal in Australian Open and a final in San Diego. Noone expected such a huge letdown after Bailly finished last year 1st, racking up four big titles including the Year-Ending Championships.
"It's great to play in Quebec as this place is my home", said Bailly in her post-match conference, "You rarely get a chance to play a tournament and relax in your own home, not in a hotel. It's helped me to take a lot of pressure off my shoulders".
As an almost local girl facing the tour veteran Jane Wong in the final, Bailly was driven by huge crowd support. The indoors arena was buzzing with excitation as it took Bailly three sets to win the match.
"I hope this is a sign of more good things to come to me", said French Canadian, "It's been very tough for me to get over all the bad loses I've encountered this year and hopefully it's over now".
Bailly turns 30 in June, next year.
