Fran in the other side was terrible from 5-3 up

I actually thought that was a pretty good match from Wozniacka actually! Some good, aggressive play in the first set... heavier serving, and more authoritative forehands too.

But as I said in the commentary thread, the key will be if she can produce that aggressive style of play if she's in a hole in a Slam match, instead of reverting to her usual passive style.

I don't get why Francesca has started to go for so much. No patience anymore. And not enough feel to improvise. Get a grip!

Congratulations Wozniaki. It should be a good match tomorrow, unless Petra is quite tired or overwhelmed. Good for Caro.

Schiavone just appeared to careless out there today. I know that's her style, somewhat. But it wasn't working for her today.

Maybe Woz can get back some Mojo for the Open if she wins?

Too many ill advised shots.

If Caro can get to your drop shots several times, they are bad drop shots.

Fran also play some bad overhead shots.

All this in a flurries of activities. Carol made her work.

We´re getting there! I´m very impressed by her fighting spirit today, especially midway through the first... that one breakpoint she played was spectacular :)

The scoreline could have been much more impressive in the second if she would not have wasted so many break points. But that will improve as well.. we´re going in the right direction!

I wish they would add forced errors to these stats. By 3-1 in the 1st set Tie Break it was shown on screen:

Caro 7
Fran 20

Caro doesn't just wait for her opponent to make errors, she forces her to make them.

You guys should be proud of Caro today.
She gave Fran every thing she could handle and more.
Caro was in almost in Fan's every service game, go to many of Franr drop shots and Caro's hooked forehand was on.

Exactly. When her game is working, that's exactly what Caroline specializes in. Those points don't show up as winners for her, but they might as well be winners. Was so happy to hear my livestream announcer mention that stat.

Simple.
Fran did not play a smart match.
Too many poor decision resulting in ill advised shots.
ThosE drop shots were just terrible, either they did not make it over the net, and when they did, they were so high, even Caro (not known for quickness and acceleration) can get to them with plenty of time to chose where to hit them.

In a concern not to get into long rallies with Caro, Fran also wanted to finish off point quickly, but took low percentage shot to that, ending in errors.

Caro was in almost Fran's service game.
Caro could also read Fran and anticipate Fran shots.

Not really.

The forced error stats are so subjective, and no doubt they counted all of Schiavone's shanks and appalling shots that fell into the botttom of the net as FEs.

I was wondering why the 2 losses. I think she's trying to do more with her forehand, and it can go off on her.
But she wants this 4th title, so she still knows how she wins, and 6-0 in sets this week.

I think her draw to the Li match is fine, and has a great chance to beat li, she almost did at the AO.

Probably needs Vika or Jelena to upset Serena.
But at least now Caroline looks ready for this major.

I wish they would add forced errors to these stats.

Forced errors made by Player A = Total points won by Player B - (Winners hit by Player B + Unforced errors made by Player A)

69 - (37 + 15) = 17 forced errors made by Caro
79 - (11 + 34) = 34 forced errors made by Fran

this. had to turn off after the 1st set because winning that slam has gone to fran's head. i mean her shot selection at times was just LOL. the thing that got fran to where she is was mixing up the play but always being conservative with it as to not making shit loads of errors. well all that has gone out the window these days and right now she looks like every other ball basher who throws in woeful drop shots (gosh some of them were truely terrible) and runs to the net on any random ball. the signs were there when, for the 1st time ever i'd say, vs aga this year she lost a match heavily solely on spraying balls around the court and making a mountain of UE's, an indication that her game was going this way.

i'd like the old fran back please.

Fran was punishing with 1st serves til 5-3, but when that level dropped she had no real advantage. In 2nd she was even worse, Caro's poor BP conversion saved her ass from the bakery product. Basically a NID match up.

agree on every single word, and i agree also on the fact that her recent losses vs radwanska are the perfect example of how the rg got into her head as she now belives to be a williams who can hit winners on every ball, i remember the old matches vs aga their rallies were endless she was moving radwanska till her exhaustion, till radwanska hit a defensive shot and then she closed the point to the net, now she want to hit like "flat" shot with a player that can anticipate so well and she loose 6-0 6-2. she lost humility, she is arrogant now and not only game wise looking at how she behave with her coach

But overall I think she is getting there, trying to come to net, and hit closer to lines.

Watching this match I've concluded that Caro is very insecure on and off the court. A few things brought me to this realization:

1) Her b/f is HORRIBLE looking. Woz is #1 in the world, cute, young, and blonde... and that's the best she can do?

2) She gets very red in the face and clearly embarassed when she gets passed or misses a volley at the net. It's the right play for her to move foward, but she is so obviously humiliated when she loses a point at the net that she will avoid it for the rest of the match.

I feel very bad for this girl.

hingisGOAT
Aug 27th, 2011, 05:51 PM
Oh, and btw, le Woz almost NEVER forces an error from her opponent, stats be damned. A forced error is an error caused by a shot that has extreme depth, pace, angle, or placement. Therefore, generally, an error made from a defensive position on court is "forced". Caro almost never puts her opponents on the defense.

37 to 11 troubles you that much? It was 24 to 3 in the first set. I'm a Wozniakci fan but have to admit the latter troubles me a bit.
