TOP20 20&U Players

This is the thread to follow and rate the chances of the young guns on 2011 US Open. I listed top20 youngest players in MD.
Every year in US Open a young player suprises us and has a good run in it.
Last year it was Beatrice Capra who made R3, two years ago it was Melanie Oudin with her famous victories over top Russian. Will we have any suprise this year? Order from the highest ranked to lowest ranked:

1. (17)Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
2. Tamira Paszek
3. Rebecca Marino
4. Polona Hercog
5. Ksenia Pervak
6. Simona Halep
7. Bojana Jovanovski
8. Petra Martic
9. Christina McHale
10. Arantxa Rus
11. Heather Watson
12. Misaki Doi
13. (wc)Sloane Stephens
14. Coco Vandeweghe
15. (Q)Urszula Radwanska
16. Melanie Oudin
17. (Q)Laura Robson
18. (Q)Reka-Luca Jani
19. (wc)Lauren Davis
20. (wc)Madison Keys

So what do you think about this year chances of some young gun? In my opinion probably McHale has it all to make some damage in MD. Maybe also Stephens and Pervak. Robson also seems to have woken up but her trailing against Townsend in quallies was worring. Unfortunately the results of the rest were quite poor this summer. Let's discuss.

Shouldn't we look at their 1st round opponents in this thread too? Marino has a tough match against Dulko, and McHale could definitely get beaten by Wozniak if Aleks brings her A-Game.

-I think there is a real opportunity for the winner of Stephens/Jani. Peer and Mirza are both in poor form, I think the upset could be possible.
-Misaki actually has a nice draw, but isn't in great form. She might still be able to get past Pous-Tio though.
-If Polona can get past a rusty Mattek-Sands she might have a chance against a brainless Petrova.
-Martic could upset Pavs maybe, but I'm not sure if BZS is a good match-up for her in R1.
-Keys of course has a shot at Craybas, and Laura against Ayumi.

There are chances up for the taking here for some youngsters to at least reach R3, hopefully some of them take it.

I'd hate to see BMS rusty especially after declaring that she was gonna play every week leading up to the US Open.

I'd put my money on Pavly, McHale and Stephens.

Robson will win several rounds in my opinion, this could be her real breakthrough tournament. Otherwise only Stephens could survive the second round. Never heard of Jani.

gotta love craybas drawing the youngest player at the us open lol. it is funny just as it looks like jill is slipping out of the top 100 she gets a draw like that, bags those 100 points and keeps on truckin

If Laura wants it she could easily win her first 2 matches.

Laura Robson for sure. Her section is weak as hell, and if she doesn't get too overwhelmed, she may very well reach the 4th round.

I can't believe how young Tamira is.

She won a title so many years ago and has been around for so long. She has already had the carer of a 25 years old. Promising start, severe drop down the rankings, work their way back up. Maybe she is destined for something amazing since she is still so young. Although not a fan of her playing style, sweet girl though.

- Laura robson can definately get to the 3rd round but zvonareva is as far as she goes

- Sloane stephens can also make a 3rd round but she'd be stopped by either ivanovic or cetovska

- Christina mchale, as much as i dont like her i have to say that she can probably make the 4th round. She should beat wozniak, bartoli has cooled down a bit and kirilenko
is beatable too.

- reka luca-jani the oppertunity for her is there to make a 3rd round if she gets past stephens

- anastasia pavlyuchenkova - she can make the 4th round with her draw..maybe even farther because schiavone is beatable. She should have won against her at the french

- polona hercog can make 3rd round, she's already beaten petrova on hard

the rest of them will be gone by the 2nd round

Then I even get some notion of Bojana endangering Serena, but then I remember Serena's 1st round GS streak. :hysteric:

Paszek to reach QF, beating Hantuchova and Kuznetsova.

I'm actually surprised that only a few mention Pavlyuchenkova here. She's obviously leagues aboves all these mugs and is possibly the only one who is able to put together a string of wins. Yes she had a bad summer, but she picked it up a bit in New Haven and she already played well at slams before.

I think Keys, Stephens and Pavluychenkova could succeed here. Even Pervak if Ana goes crazy again.

Yeah, she has already accomplished a lot compared to the rest. I think she is the only one who has actually won a WTA event out of the lot. Isn't that tragic how few under 21s win WTA main events?

Impressed with so many of them surviving Round 1! Nastya P has the best chance to last the longest I think.
