I think this is a pretty good prediction bar Petkovic. Sam has a pretty good draw and the only obstacle is Venus, whose form and health is suspect at the moment.

So who wins the final?

As for young Americans to watch, I am not sure about McHale after yesterday.

She thinks Caro was pushing her around with aggressive play.

I am afraid she'll turn out to be another version of Caro, a McPushina

yes and if that is the final we'll get an even worse match then last year, serena will rape maria something like 6-1, 6-1 in less then an hour

iumk not so sure sam wins the quarter, if sabine gets past venus in round 2 then she could easily beat sam

If that's the semi-final line up, I hope it's a Maria v Serena final.

Plz be true, though I'd prefer Venus over Sam, or even Sabine.

I don't think Petkovic will be first quarter,Na Li will beat her. Don't forget the Quarter-final in 2011 AO......

Venus owns Stosur and has beaten Sabine on hardcourts the last time they played.Venus owns Vera and Stosur if she gets past Sabine I dont see anyone stopping her...even pova will not stop Venus...Vee knows that this is her year to do some damage and she is coming in cold..no one knows about her form except Serena.
Petkovic will not go far because of her knee injury..

I don't think Vania is going to upset anybody. Sad to say.

No disrespect to Venus, but right now I don't think you can say she owns anyone. She hasn't played since Wimbledon, has played a total of 10 matches this year and hasn't faced a top 10 player since last year's USO. She's still Venus of course, and capable of beating any of these girls on a good day, but to expect her to beat three players of this quality to reach the SF is asking a bit much. I agree with Steve that Stosur's got the best chance of winning this quarter based on form and H2Hs.

My pairings for the last 16:

Wozniacki-Hantuchova
Petkovic-Li
Azarenka-Stephens
Riske-Schiavone

Safarova-Cirstea
Peng-Sharapova
Bartoli-Stosur
Lisicki-Robson

Semis: Petkovic-Azarenka
Sharapova-Robson
Winner: Azarenka

I think it's high time for Azarenka to win her first Slam. Her draw is not too difficult apart from Serena in the third round but Serena won't be able to reproduce her best form against an Azarenka in best form. I expect Serena's game to fall apart under the relentness power of the Belorussian.
Sharapova should be able to reach the final with a victory over Lisicki because she has a psychological advantage over her from their Wimbledon meeting.
I don't expect any of the Williams sisters to survive the third round.
I expect a strong showing here for Hantuchova, Cirstea and Schiavone. Hantuchova and Cirstea are immensely talented, they can easily get into the last 16 as long as they can keep the unforced error count down.
Amongst the youngsters Riske, Stephens and Robson could go furthest. They all have a cakewalk draw. Ivanovic should pose no threat to the up-and-coming Stephens and Znonareva is not the force she used to be a year ago so Robson should comfortably beat her if she is close to her best. And Riske should wipe the floor with out-of-form Pavlyuchenkova.
I expect disappointment and an early exit for Jankovic, Kanepi and Kvitova.

(I posted my predictions in another thread as well because there doesn't seem to be a thread about predictions.

I don't see Stosur reaching the semifinals the media hype for this woman is just insane. Stosur has proven over and over again she lacks the mental toughness to win the big matches in a slam. Last year's French Open seems like a big fluke and a distant memory. Stosur hasn't produced the kind of tennis she showed at the 2010 French Open. Stosur's serve is extremely overrated I am just not impressed with her at all. The 2-9 record in finals is a terrible statistic just like her 0-9 record against Sharapova.

It really puzzles me why a modest retiring girl like Stosur excites such extreme reactions. Youíre right that sheís not as good as some of her fans would like to believe, but sheís not as bad as youíre making her out to be either. 9-2 in finals isnít great for sure, but 3 of those losses date back to her early career before she contracted Lymeís disease and before she started work with Dave Taylor, and the last 4 were against quality opponents (Henin, Schiavone, Sharapova and Williams). Compare that to someone like Wozniacki, whoís racked up an apparently impressive 6 titles this year, against respectively Kuznetsova, Bartoli, Vesnina, Peng, Safarova and Cetkovska. Itís also true that Sam has a terrible H2H against Sharapova, but she has a great one against Zvonareva and Li. So thereís good and bad in her resume, like there is in most playersí. She doesnít go around beating her chest about how good she is, so itís a mystery to me why people have the feeling they somehow have to bring her down to earth.
