Not Sharapova.

Not Sharapova.

at least once a match she'll hit a serve above 110mph.
It's weird with Sharapova's serve. She used to never be able to crank it up above 105-108 mph but her serve was very consistent. I wonder if trying to up her serve speeds is what led to her shoulder injury.

Pironkova used to have 3rd best serve in GS stats...yeah I´m serious, Williams, Williams, Pironkova... Rybarikova is also serving bombs and if you remember Julie Coin, I believe she can hit over 110 constantly...Safarova? I don´t remember her numbers, but she has a good serve, and of course Groenefeld.

Brenda Schultz - McCarty, or whatever her name was, I mean that Lady from Netherlands who played well in her late 30's about 2005-2006.

Iroda Tulyaganova also served with some speed.

I'd guess Hradecka and Marino have produced the one-off serves at 200km.

I'd guess Hradecka and Marino have produced the one-off serves at 200km.

Hradecká‘s game is quite rude, no finesse just a brutal force. Her serve is one of the hardest ones on the tour, flat one ranges between 190-200 km/h. Her record at the tournaments is 205 km/h. The problem is the difference between quality of her 1st and 2nd serve. The latter doesn‘t stand out in any way. While Roddick for example produces fast 1st but also 2nd serves, Hradecká only the former.

Close to 200km/h, but not quite there, besides those mentioned in the WTA article:

Coin
Mattek
Bychkova
Görges (at least one serve at 200km/h when she played in the Court Central at the Estoril Open, but not listed in WTA stats)

Didn't the system of measurement change at some point in the early 2000s? Like they started measuring a certain distance instead of what they used to. I remember reading something like that. Venus and Serena didn't used to regularly crack the 120s and I understand most men rarely went over 130 which is pretty standard nowadays.

Typical WTA amateurism

AFAIK no other sports organization randomly picks only 12 out of many fully legitimate professional competition events WITHIN the league/association and only registers the records there as if that somehow proves something.

Sprem hit a 123MPH at Wimbledon in 2004, IIRC. Obviously not quite on topic with the thread, but close.

weird I've never heard of that. Could be true but Venus was def. serving bombs in the 120s back in 2000. Not sure about Serena.

I left Ivanovic off cuz i don't think she can do it anymore.
I think someone mentioned a junior who could bomb 125....anyone remember her name?

If I recall Na allegedy hit some serves over 200km at Roland Garros 2 years ago,I think her fastest was 204km. But I think this is wrong. It has to be.
