Is Michael Joyce coaching anyone?

He's coaching 17 year-old Jessica Pegula, who is playing US Open qualies this week :)

Pegula is going places. Just wait. She is extremely talented and a lot of potential. Her father owns the NHL team (Buffalo Sabres)

She is from Buffalo originally (hence her dad owns the NHL team there :p), but she trains in Florida now I'm pretty sure. Her dad actually founded a gas drilling company that he ended up selling for almost $5 billion! She never played much juniors, but she has had good results in USTA pro circuit events (especially on clay). Currently ranked around 350.

Pegula pretty much said she'll go pro soon. She had the financial support and results to do it. Hope Joyce can gether to be more consistent. She has LOADS of potential from what I've seen. Reminds me a lot of Tamira Paszek.

I've seen Marion Bartoli at two different tournaments and she looks MUCH fitter and leaner in person than she does on TV. People here give her WAY too much crap.

Marion does not look "big" to me... but this girl..

Her technique is suspect and she does not have enough athleticism from the video.

She actually reminds me of Tamarine Tanasugarn. especially her mid-section

I thought Michael would at least be coaching Maria's cousin but I forgot how old she is, perhaps too young to be trained professionally.

But this girl needs fitness first before turning a pro. The level she's playing in the video is just club + beginning challenger - nowhere near the pro circuit yet.

It was way off to compare her to Bartoli.

Someone most she had good result this year, so I wanted to get a sense of her game and found this.
When I first watched, I thought she was still warming up, but no, she was playing the match.

I get impression that so disposable income in the family, this is something she is doing because daddy can afford it, not because there is a really chance at succeeding.


The father is a very successful and passionate guy, all the kids are doing different things to keep busy(or impress daddy), I am impress she has chosen tennis for that reason.

Completely false :shrug: She is the top ranked American born in 94 and 7th highest ranked girl born in 94 in the WTA rankings, including being ranked higher then hyped girls like Bouchard, Gavrilova, Kozlova.

She has wins over El Tabakh, Larcher De Brito, Giorgi, Stevenson, Babos, and South. And 3-set losses to Falconi (3rd set tiebreak), Malek, Tomljanovic, and Siegemund.

Actually not an off day at all. I watched that whole match via livestream (QFs against Falconi at a 50k) and Jessie played great. She really was blasting the ball and gave Irina, who's had one of the quickest climbings of the ranks recently, a real battle. You really can't judge someone's talent off of a video clip like that.

I actually saw them recently training in LA. And the girl as trimmed down some since that last video. I also heard Michael has her working with trainer Ken Matsuda who trained Maria for years and Michael Chang. She turned 17 few months ago and has had really good results last few months .Started year ranked around 900 and currently 336. Seems to be going in the right direction. However i've heard many rumors that Wozniaki has contacted Joyce !!! I think he would be great for her. Maybe he could get her to start taking the ball a little earlier and improve her FH like he did with Maria when she was younger. We will see. By the way Pegula plays tomorrow at 11 just saw on the schedule.

Would you rather her lie? Besides, she didn't slam college tennis and say she was above it. She simply said that her family was fortunately financially secure enough to give pros a try and that her parents were behind her.

No, I'd rather her not mention it. There are other ways to say why you're going pro without talking about financial status.

But I was just pitching in my 2 cents. You don't need to get so defensive all the time whenever somebody talks bad about an American jr. player. :shrug:

Michael Joyce has stated that he would like to work with Sloane Stephens in the agreement that is out of the USTA system. He is willing to try it on a temporary basis. I personally think Sloane should go with Michael.
