It was, less than impressive. Just one double fault for Sabine though, and even if the match wasn't that... Exciting, Sabine did just enough to win and advance on.

Sabine played ok... She didn't have to do much to beat Mirza here though, she was absolutely shocking!

Sabine served pretty well, and in doing so, showed that she is a huge threat if she can just get her first serve in. That's a big if.

Mirza was awful -- no serve, no volleying or rallying ability, no variety. I don't know why people called her a tricky opponent for Sabine. Just one brainless ballbasher against another....

Normally, I would fight you tooth and nail about this comment... However. Sabine was ball-bashing at times in the match where she didn't need to. Sania wasn't playing her best, and she quickly got frustrated and gave in. Disappointing, but you can't really fault her... She hasn't been the Sania most fell in love with for quite some time.

Terrible match. Lisicki has absolutely no pressure in these types of matches, and she needs to do more with serve than she is.

Agreed. Sania hit a few winners off of Sabine's first serve. That (with no respect meant for Sania) would have never happened had Sabine been serving like she did at Wimbledon.

Oh well. Wimbledon is the past, this is the future. May she (and her serve) only get better from here.

Wish I could have gone back tonight. But my journeys are driven by my sidekicks schedule. :p

He is my favorite player after all. Even more than the bebanged one.

1. That's just Sania being Sania. She goes for winners on 75% of the balls she hits.
2. Wimbledon quality of play >>> Quality of play at summer HC tournaments. It's not just Sabine, it's everyone.

I'm pretty happy with this match (not just the result) because Sabine's serve improved, if only a little bit, and she made fewer unforced errors than she did at Toronto and Cincinnati.

Oh, I see. And yes... I am very pleased with the result, and I am impressed with all the progress, even if it really is only a small bit, that she has made. She has a fairly tough road ahead of her, come time for the next round. I have a feeling she is going to show up ready, though. Just a feeling.

Unfortunately Sania had so much potential, but now she is reduced to losing pretty much all the time.
Hate to say it , but I don't think she'll make any sort of a comeback.

Well hey last year she was OUTSIDE the top 160 so for her to have gotten back into the top 55/60 range i'd say is quite a comeback already .......

Well I thought Mirza would prove tricky, so I'm pleased with that.

Played, Sabs! :yeah:

Lol at the people who thought this could go Mirza's way. The only reason their match in NZ was close was because Sabine was still out of form. Let's go people, Sabs is clearly in leagues ahead of Sania.

Good job Sabine :yeah:
