View Full Version : Cinci Women's SF Andrea P tweaks knee

Pam Shriver just reported during the Berdych/Djokovic match that Andrea Petkovic thought she had an ACL issue with her knee again, and so had an MRI. She worried (and cried all night) that she would have to give a walkover. However, turns out that it is just a tweak(Pam talked to her). So...could be an odd semifinal tonight.

Probably not threadworthy, but just a little something to watch for tonight.

Could turn out to be very important with the USO so close

Pam Shriver: Andrea Petkovic MRI reveals she has a slight tear in her menisucs (knee), will still play tonight.

I want her to play. Too many retirements/withdrawals as of late. However... I also want her to play smart. Withdrawing might be the best idea for now... I just don't like the idea of this tear.

I think it is odd to play just before USO with a potential issue, but I guess she thinks she has a good chance to get to this final.

Can you imagine if Andrea does withdraw or retire and then a similar thing happens in the final?

I wonder if anyone has ever won a tournament w/3 walkovers/retirements in a row?

I get what you are saying, but Pam Shriver is a credible as it gets. The information about the tear, came from her talking to Andrea. So yes... That's the only source. Very credible, though. She wouldn't lie on camera so blatantly.

Oh there is no doubt she tweaked it a bit. It happened during her match with Petrova (around 5-5 in the first set) and she asked for the trainer immediately, but then waived the trainer off, because she felt fine. So add a MRI, a night full of tears, and you have a much better story. I canŽt believe sheŽd play with a small tear, if there is a chance of aggravation, a week before the US Open.

Are you calling her a drama queen? Because she did say a night full of tears, which I suppose is based on her remembrance of her previous injury. Anyway, she probably is worried about it.

Let's just hope Jelena didn't hear about it and plays passive, waiting for AP's errors.

If Andrea really does have a tear or any sort of knee injury she must be mad if she is thinking of playing tonight :o (especially after having an ACL injury in the past) :help:

blimey everyone is dropping like flies! I can't remember there being so many retirements and withdrawals like there has been in the last two weeks. If it is concern for Andrea, she would be silly to risk her chances at the US.

not smart to play with a tear, playing could only aggravate it...

If there is a tear, she better not play. It is not smart to play with that, especially this close to the open

Like other people are saying, she would legity be insanely stupid to play tonight if their is a tear. INSANELY stupid.

I really hope she knows what she's doing, cause risking USO for Cinci is :weirdo: Plus, JJ needs final more, in order to get $$$$$ and finally finish her ginormous mansion

JJ doesn't read the Internet, so I'll go ahead and say it: Petkovic looks neither thrilled nor all that mobile.

She looks like Venus! That's not comforting at all. Dokic retired two games in the other day, and if Petkovic retires after one and walks off, I am ok with that. When she got injured in 08, she didn't even get to finish the first game.

Jankovic's luck :haha:
In all seriousness, it's not really very cool of Shriver to publicly broadcast this information that she was presumably told semi-confidentially, this far in advance, thus tipping off the opposition.

I'm not a fan of Andrea's, but she's absolutely insane to try and play tonight. Slight tear is still a tear and considering all her previous knee problems this could really mess up her career in the long run.

Do we know if it's the same knee she's had problems with in the past?
