In qualifying.

oh she should have been in the poll. what the heck was the thread-starter thinking :weirdo:

anyways, this could definitely mean the first week this year where a qualifier wins the tournament. it would be so fitting to see Arav do that. She deserves it. If Julia screws up again (god forbid), i'll have a hard time not cheering for Arav over shuai.

I'm sure Peng is gonna withdraw.

Why pull out of a (winnable) Premier 5 QF to play an International event a few days later?
Maybe a first round bye would give her time to recover, but not like this...

Let's just hope she's ready for the Open!

No it won't. Julia always smacks Alize off the court. I expect nothing different this time. Cornet's only hope is for Shuai to withdraw and Jules to take her spot. Either way, it's not like that would affect Jules from making the finals at least.

Yeah... Now she plays her best and won one match on 5 previous tournaments :worship:

She played much better in her last 3 matches than in her previous 3 matches before that. And the last three opponents (JJ,SW,Jie) are all better than the 3 before that (Tous-Pio,Kirilenko,Stephens). And Jie plays a difficult game for Jules. I am sure the Julia most of us have come to know and love will show up in Texas this week.

Oh yeah that's true. Stoser doesn't even compare to a peak Julia though  . Even though clay is Julia's best surface now, that can still change. She works on her game everyday.

Julia has such a uniquely amazing forehand. I love it so much, just like i love her. You see, not many people know this but the reason that she is so much more effective on clay is that since she has such a lengthy take back with the over-the-head fh, she has more time to rip the ball on the slower clay courts, compared to the faster hard-courts, and even grass.

I am very confused. Why is Peng playing Dallas when she withdrew from her QF in Cincy?

What is going on with this injury? I mean, she gave a walkover to Na, took a week off and looked to be doing great in Cincy. Really clobbered Peer yesterday and then withdrew today with a left hip injury. How bad is this injury? Doesn't seem to me she could win 3 matches in Cincy and then withdraw with an injury if it is that bad? Does anyone have any info on this?

It seems stupid for Peng to play Dallas which is 5 matches in a row just to gain a few points when the US Open starts in almost a week. If her injury is bad, she could lose early in New York and 160 ranking points she is defending. Maybe she is going to try to win Dallas and withdraw from the US Open? All of this seems really strange. Why didn't she just play the QF in Cincy and withdraw from Dalls altogether and take a week or so off to rest to at least make it to the 4th round or QF of the US Open.

Very strange behavior surrounding this hip injury that still allows her to win 3 matches in a row pretty convincingly!!

Hopefully Cibulkova can take this and finally win her first title. It sucks that she's in the same quarter as Lisicki though. Hopefully if Peng pulls out they'll change the seeds and give Lisicki a separate quarter.

Also, it's cool that Lisicki, Cirstea and Cibulkova are all here---it will interesting to see them potentially go head-to-head right when the results of that Xperia Hotshots thing are being announced. Maybe someone will lose the contest and then get revenge. Hehe :)

Not to put pressure on her or anything.

True, but that speaks more to her style of play than her dominance relative to the field. Because she hits so hard and has such a huge serve, her matches are won or lost on her racquet. The same can be said for Gajdosova, but she's no favorite here.

I don't know who to pick. The top five seeds all have a shot, but I can see any of them withdrawing or losing in the first round. Or they might just tank in the QF to prepare for the US Open. For Sabine, all that matters is finding her form -- and especially her serve -- again.

Yeah, what PurpleRain said is very true :yeah:

However, if Sabs were to play Jules or Arav, the match I feel would no longer be on her racquet, but rather it would come down to who was more consistent. I give Sabine the edge, but I think that she couldn't overpower either of the two

I would be overjoyed with Julia and so too with Arav. Sabine or Shuai would be nice, but I think the former need it more. Otherwise, this tournament would be a fail for me. Ideally, a Julia-Sabine final would be best, and then we can really see where they match-up in regard to who is the 2nd best German (and IMO, they are both better than Andrea is fully deserves the success she has had).

Joey Darling
Aug 21st, 2011, 06:43 AM
I would like a Julia-Sabine final as well. Won't count on it, though. Not to say that they can't make it... They can. Julia is playing better and better as the tournaments come, and Sabine... Eh, IF she can get things back under control, I really do feel that she has a legitimate shot at the title.

Experience is always good, especially for her, who had big breaks because of injuries. An MM isnt much pressure though, still better than nothing. If she gets used to it, bigger chance she can avoid shaky performances like Wimbledon SF.
