Sharapova. :)

A match against Sharapova would mean Serena will definitely win the tournament as Serena's footwork, serve and shots would be firing on all cylinders from that match onwards.

Also, an early loss at the US Open would deprive Sharapova of the #1 ranking.:)

Zvonareva.

It would knock her off of her massively inflated #2 spot.
Plus, nobody will notice she's gone anyways.
The WTA isn't even trying with her as she always plays on court 17 or something.

The Tour actually needs Caroline to have a very deep run.

I thought the top 4 would meet 29-32 in round 3.
With Kim out Serena will likely be seeded 28.

I think serena will steamroll any one of them other than Li, Sharapova, or Zvonareva. She'll beat Maria or Vera, Li will be more interesting I think (despite the Stosur woes of the past 2 weeks).

I'll go with Wozniacki. She'll probably lose early anyway, and I'd rather it be to Serena than to some random journeywoman. If Serena draws Sharapova in the third round the tournament will fall apart fast after their showdown. I'd much rather see a semi or a final with those two.

Yeah, I checked last years draw. You're right.

I guess I prefer her to meet Fran or Marion. I think it would be better for the tournament if she meet Li, Masha, Kvitova, Vika, Vera and Caro in the QF or later.

Please not Maria.... the tournament deserves to have its 2 biggest title contenders in the latter rounds (not that Maria's anywhere near Serena in terms of being title favourite, but she is a distant 2nd favourite)

And it'd be good if she avoided Vika and Petra too I reckon. Or Na.

Maybe she could take out Caro, or Vera or Fran or Marion.

With a routine 6-1, 6-2 beatdown by Serena? That will make a terrible final and does not deserve prime time. The earlier they meet the better for women's tennis

As far as who I want her to thrash? Kim :tears: Then I guess Woz  I'd say Maria ONLY because the winner of that match always goes on to win the title  Though I'd definitely prefer it to be in the _F stages. Who I want her to avoid? Petra, Na, maybe Bartoli. Mostly the first two, especially Petra. They're all capable of coming out BLAZING and I'd rather Serena meets them later on when she's already gained momentum and is historically hard to stop (Semis/Finals preferably)

Kvitova. I assume she'll have some of her form back if she makes it to the third round, so it should be a competitive match. I don't think the same can be said for Serena-Masha.

You are an even bigger idiot for denying the obvious. :o

Ms. Cupcake has a very long history of being handed cupcake draws, especially at the USO. In 2007, at the USO, 7 of the 8 players who kicked her ass were put on one half of the draw, as she was put on the other half with a bunch of nobodies. Was that a coincidence? I think not, and so were many others who just shook their heads in disbelief of how blatant those organizers were. Thank goodness that their plan backfired. Agnieszka Radwanska beat her butt in the 3rd round. It was truly sweet justice. :D

EXACTLY!

How about last year when she played Justine in the 3rd of Roland Garros? Or when she played Serena and Venus back to back in the early rounds of Miami 2007? Or when she drew Davenport in the second round of the 2008 Australian Open? Any of the 1-6 seeds. Would be amusing to see one of them crash out early when that's exactly what the seed is supposed to prevent :haha:

Wozniacki would probably be the best bet. The quicker the World #1 ranking is seized from her grasp the better, for the sport and for herself. Hopefully she can then recuperate with less pressure for a more fruitful appearance in the 2012 slams.

Having said that, the next in line to the #1 spot are hardly going to redeem the damage done :tape:

Just so it's clear to a few other people - 3rd round technically means the top 16 seeds play seeds 32-17. Serena might not draw the top 8 seeds in the 3rd round.

Having said that, I'd love to see Serena play Sharapova in the 3rd round. Like someone said before, Serena brings her B+, A (or even C :oh:)game when playing this girlll and wins so full steam ahead from then on!

Otherwise Wozniacki, show her who the real no.1 is girl!

You say this as if you aren't a perfect representative of a Masha fan who takes every damn thing to a personal level with Serena and Serena fans. Get over the fact that Maria isn't liked by everybody - there's nothing any more special about her then another disliked player. I have literally no idea why people are voting for Maria, no shade to her at all since I like her too. For her fans, at this point she's probably not going to beat Serena for the rest of her career, unless the latter is gravely wounded; It's not just mental, Serena's also a bad matchup for her. For Serena's fans, we should have been satisfied after 2007. There's really nothing left to prove. The only good aspect to this match is that it will fill the seats(But even then it would be better for late-tournament rather than R3.)
