View Full Version : Is Kim the greatest blue court player ever?

moby
Aug 16th, 2011, 07:50 AM
She has won 4 slams on blue courts, more than anyone else in the history of tennis. The only Slam match she lost on a blue court was against Nadia Petrova, when she clearly had an off day. Many saw her as a favourite to win that slam.

The closest person to come to her accomplishments is Serena, with 3 slams, but she has lost a whopping 5 slam matches on the colour.

There's something about the Colour Blue that brings out the inner peace in Kim, and we know that Saint Kim at her most serene is unbeatable. It's no surprise that Aussie Kim finally fulfilled her destiny after 2008 (when AO ushered in the two-toned blue Plexicushion), that the year the US Open went blue was the year Kim won her first slam of many, that Kim's first big final was on the indigoes of Indian Wells, or that her breakthrough to the elite ranks of women's tennis was marked by back-to-back wins at the YEC, played back in 02 and 03 on - you guessed it - bright blue courts. :worship:

If Kim wins the US Open this year with no preparation, overcoming what must be a career-threatening injury and general lack of motivation, then surely she'll cement her status as the bluecourt GOAT.

Right. I suppose Kim would've won the US Open and Australian Open's that she lost in her earlier years had the court been blue.

I can't wait for Wimbledon invite Alison Krauss to perform at the inaugural ceremony. In my dream scenario, she would perform Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On) with who else but Robert Plant. It would be a very botanical affair, celebrating death and renewal and such.

Y'all bitches are a mess with the analogies. Let the real expert break it down to you. The reason why Kim plays so well on blue courts is because the color blue protects her from radiation. When there's radiation leakage, you're supposed to take iodine to protect you from getting cancer. Iodine is blue and therefore Kim thinks she's surrounded by safety.

"I think it's a lot to do with feeling comfortable on the surface -- I think I see the ball better on the blue courts."

The Blue Fairy has spoken.
Implicit in this statement is her acknowledgement of blue courts as a special distinct surface, one that she "feels comfortable" on.

I've already listed something similar in my predictions for 2012 and I stand by them. Might have to revise my winners now that I know that Kim is the blue GOAT though.

Australian Open
Sick of getting beaten by Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, Andy Murray has a sex change operation during the off-season and asks for a wild card into the women's singles but still loses in the semi-final. Petra Kvitova has a horror draw which puts her up against Clijsters in the 3rd round, Serena in the 4th, Li Na in the QF and Azarenka in the SF. She whups all of them in straight sets and then has an off day in the final and loses to Agnieszka Radwanska.

French Open
Jelena Jankovic is booed vociferously by the French crowd, apparently for wearing trainers that clash with her dress. Andrea Murray again loses in the semi-final. Keeping up the tradition of oldies winning their maiden slam here, Kimiko Date Krum beats Flavia Pennetta in the final to take the crown.

Wimbledon
After buying the All England Club, Ion Tiriac decrees that The Championships be played on blue grass. Told that there is no so such thing as blue grass, a defiant Tiriac hires Hank Blaylock's Kentucky Stompers to play during the changeovers on centre court. Andrea Murray loses another semi-final. Persistent rain means Petra Kvitova plays all her matches on an indoor grass court, rendering her invincible.

Olympics
IOC rule that live bluegrass music cannot be played at the changeover during the Olympics. Tiriac's head explodes and the tennis world breathes a sigh of relief. Kvitova wins her second Wimbledon in the space of a month. The Williams sisters and Clijsters all announce their retirements.

US Open
US Open finally agrees to increase umpire's pay, saying they can now afford to do so since they no longer have to employ bodyguards for the umpires following Serena's retirement. Kvitova loses in the 1st round, sparking yet more theories as to why she can't win on Northern hemisphere, outdoor, blue coloured, hard courts. Andrea Murray completes her grand slam of semi-final defeats. Wozniacki reaches her second grand slam final but is out-pushed by Christina McHale. America rejoices their new champion but the rest of the tennis world despairs.

WTA Championship
Newly crowned US Open champion McHale is blown away 6-0 6-0 in 27 minutes by Kvitova in her first match. Kvitova goes on to complete a second year without losing a match indoors.

Year end #1 ranking
Despite Kvitova winning Wimbledon, Olympics, YEC, Dubai, Miami, Madrid, Beijing, Paris, Stuttgart and being runner-up at the Australian Open, Wozniacki is still year end number 1.

Anyway, I'm off to put £20 on Kimmie to win Madrid :bolt:
