My predictions:

1. Australian reciprocal wildcard - Anastasia Rodionova will probably get in the MD on her own ranking. Casey Dellacqua is the obvious choice. Only other player in the top 200 is Sally Peers but her results in these last few months have been disastrous. Plus she hasn't played a match since losing in 1st round Wimbledon Q.
2. French reciprocal wildcard - Aravane Rezaï sounds like the logical choice, no matter how bad she's playing. She was top 15 WTA last year and has done well in the USO in the past.
3. US Open wildcard play-off winner
4. Winner of the U18 championships
5. Alison Riske
6. Sloane Stephens
7. Jamie Hampton
8. Alexia Glatch or Chichi Scholl

No way Capra is gonna get a MDWC. She's leaving for Duke in a few weeks and has been playing terrible this year. Only win over a top 300 player this year was against Julia Cohen :oh: She is in fact 4-13 this year having played basically ITF :help:

My choices for qualifying:

1. Julia Boserup
2. Beatrice Capra
3. Lauren Davis
4. Jessica Pegula
5. Krista Hardebeck
6. Madison Keys
7. Sachia Vickery
8. Last year Junior Champion - Daria Gavrilova

As most likely one of these girls will win the U18 All-American, last WC would give it to either Min or Gibbs although I would love Monica Puig to get a QWC here. NYC has a massive Puertorican community, and after all Puerto Rico is kinda part of the US :p Plus Monica of course is a talented junior who is top 300 WTA already, won ITFs and played the final at this year Australian & French Open Junior tournaments.

Mónica Puig would be a LOVELY choice for QWC! :)

Australian - Dellacqua
French - Garcia
Stephens
Hampton
Glatch
Riske/Capra (if Riske would make cut off)

Q:
Boserup
Davis
Fink
Pegula
Keys
Barte
Muhammed

If one of those will win Play off I would choose Shelby Rogers as BU.

In The Zone
Aug 7th, 2011, 09:15 PM
Glatch
Hampton
Stephens

Those 3 are all locks.

Capra will get a MDWC based on last year's 3R alone even though her results don't warrant it.

French WC and Australian WC.

Leaves the US Playoff and U18 winner. Hopefully Alison wins the playoff. If she doesn't and I were the USTA, I'd make her play qualies. She should get through but with her recent form, who knows.

Uranium

Alison if offered a WC I think would reject once again this year (she was offered a chance to win one, but withdrew). I think she'd rather try to gain the Qualifying points.

1. Aussie WC - Rodionova, if not her then Dellacqua. (By that I mean Rodionova gets in on her own ranking due to withdrawals)
2. French WC - Rezai.
3. Play-off Winner
4. 18's Nationals WC: Davis is my pick to win the Nationals.
5. Hampton
6. Stephens
7. Glatch
8. Riske/Scholl/Weinhold/Brodsky/Craybas

I understand why Capra should get a WC since she made R3 and yada yada, but she will get eaten alive. She was lucky to play the tour's biggest 2 BBB's Rezai and Sprem. She should be happy with a QWC anyways, she is going to college and playing there.

8th option: Chichi is the next best choice after Alexa. Then we have Ashley who has gotten a WC in the past and has had some very good results in the past year and a half or so. Then we have the New Yorker Gail Brodsky, who also has been doing very well recently. But I think it should go to Jill Craybas. Of course, if Riske accepts the WC then obviously this whole discussion is pointless.

Qualifying:
Boserup
Davis
Fink
Muhammed
Keys
Pegula
Capra

If any win Nationals or play-off, then Hardebeck, Gibbs, Andrews.

Was there no Qualifying WC play-off this year? Sadly I feel Lindsay Lee-Waters, Rolle, and Jennifer Elie will get overlooked.

They really should give Jill one, even though its unlikely.

Jill won't get one. A few years ago Osterloh was ranked in the seventies although she had missed the cut and they snubbed her. They're too obsessed with "the future". And they will give it to Capra, they know people will remember her from last year and it's a good way to show the youngsters that their good (even if lucky) performances do get noticed and rewarded. I hope Davis can win the play-off, she is deserving. Furthermore, Puig should get one as she has the results to warrant and is sort of American :p.

Can't see Glatch getting a wildcard based on her form this year. Brodsky seems certain to get a qualifying WC, if she doesn't make it in on her own merit.

In the past year after a bad first half of 2010 and yet another injury with her ranking sinking close to 400, Alexa has gotten herself back near the top 150. Which is better than most American players.

Gail is in qualifying on her own ranking.

As of now, I don't think there are any sure locks except for Sloane Stephens.

1. Tennis Australia-They probably would like to give it to Casey, but they might not be able to justify bypassing Rodio to give it to her, since Casey's results lately haven't been good at all. Rodio has points to defend also. They could choose to give it to a youngster, in which case it will be either Peers or Holland. Barty wouldn't accept it (might not even take Aussie Open WC next year).
2. FFT-Garcia or Rezai I guess. It wouldn't surprise if Caroline chooses to play qualies for the experience. FFT seem to have bonded with Aravane since all the shit went down, and everyone feels sorry for her.
3. Play-Off Winner
4. 18's Champion
5. Sloane
6-8. ???-Glatch & Jamie would be the obvious choices, but it wouldn't surprise me if they would prefer to play qualies, since they both seem quite confident in their games (and need the points). I think Alexa has done that in they past, right? USTA have never really given Jamie tons of chances either. Chichi could be a strong candidate, but I'm not sure what her relationship with the USTA is.
I think who shows up to the play-off, and who reaches RU, semis, will be extremely important to who gets these WCs.

Shame on the French Tennis Federation if they don't give it to Aravane. I realize she's had a crap year, but it's because of the unfortunate drama going on in her life. She is still the best French player overall, and one year from now, I expect her to be the French no.1, again.

Btw, what are the chances of Bouchard or Ahn getting a WC?

And BTW, didn't the use to give a WC to the NCAA champion ? Or it's just for qualies this year ?

Agree. Alexa's recent form has been very, verygood. She beat Makarova ( #42) 6-1,6-2 in San Diego, then played Top 10er Petkovic very tough. She beat Johanssen (#61) in straight sets today in Cincy. She also qualified for Wimbledon taking out a seed (Voracova) and Voskoboeva who has been playing really well.

Hampton played really well in the early part of the year but seems to have been out of action for a while. She did get to the Vancouver final but the wins weren't all that impressive. She got a tad lucky with the walkover over Niculescu. Too bad she isn't playing Cincy...would've been a good opportunity to showcase her current level of play.
