Well, when one finds a certain group threatening to her own group or even the whole humankind, she might do this kind of things.

I think you misunderstood me. I don't think she in fact is still alive (nevertheless I hope so). But I don't like her music. Not a big talent in my eyes. Maybe just a nice voice :)

Good Morning to everyone! This is summary for me. Let`s everybody make it one. :p
I`m `Banditoo`. My real name is Bayryam. I`m from Bulgaria. I live in Haskovo - medium city in Bulgaria. I`m 14 year old.
I love to study and write on forum. I like to listen music. My favorite singer is Madonna. I like too Pink and Kelis. The groups whos i listen is Fever ray and Iamamiwhoami. I don`t like Lady Gaga, Eminem, MChakson.
I like German sport player!!! :hearts: :worship:
- German national futboll team
- German women tennis player: Julia Goerges, Lisicki, Petkovic :hearts:
- German mens tenis player: F. Mayer and M. Bachinger :bounce:
- German diving team!!!
- German athlete in winter sports: Severin FREUND and Maria Riesch :worship:
This is very crazy :tape::lol:
By sports I love to watch - Tennis, F1, Cycling, Winter sports, Swimming and Futboll. (I`m crazy an sport maniac :help::lol:)
I watch tennis by 2009. My favorite tournaent is Wimbledon (love a grass). I like women tennis more than men. I`m fan on Venus, Serena, Julia, Pironkova, GOAT Roger, Dimitrov and all other bulgarian tennis player. I like F. Mayer, M. Bachinger, Berankis, Peneta, Bartoli and Pous-Tio. I don`t like Mahsa, Azarenka, Raonic, Nasta, Tomic, Caro and Kim. ;)
I can speak Bulgarian, Turkish and English. When I grow up I want to study in Germany or England Astronomy. I love Astronomy. I go to the competition for Astronomy and i have a success.:p

I like German sport player!!! :hearts: :worship:
Can you say why? Do you have somekind of a connection to germany?

- German national futboll team
Well they play nice football nowadays, don't they. I'm a fan of the german mannschaft myself, but that's hardly surprising since I'm german and football is the number 1 sport here by far. During the time of the european cup or the world cup the whole of germany goes nuts!!

- German women tennis player: Julia Goerges, Lisicki, Petkovic :hearts:
Well thats why we a here. They are just great. Love them
- German mens tenis player: F. Mayer and M. Bachinger :bounce:Why??
- German diving team!!!
I watch them sometimes during olympics, but other than that I'm not really into that sport. The german team is somewhat successful these days, or do I confuse it with another sport?
- German athlete in winter sports: Severin FREUND and Maria Riesch :worship:
Ski jumping had its days in germany, but maybe they will come back. So Severin Freund could become a star in germany, while Maria to some extent is. I#m not so fond of the both of them, but that's just because I dont watch their sports a lot. The biggest winter sport star in germany by far is Magdalena Neuner. And i love her too, just as I love the sport of hers biathlon. As for the winter sports, Biathlon draws the biigest crowds here in germany by far

By sports I love to watch - Tennis, F1, Cycling, Winter sports, Swimming and Futboll. (I`m crazy an sport maniac :help::lol:)
What's with Sebastina Vettel? I like him a lot, he seems like a fun guy

I can speak Bulgarian, Turkish and English. When I grow up I want to study in Germany or England Astronomy. I love Astronomy. I go to the competition for Astronomy and i have a success.:p
If you want to study in germany you should try to lear a bit of german. Most of the time the lectures are in german. There are some international ones that are in english, but that's clearly a minority. But you are still young, enough time to learn another language

Can you say why? Do you have somekind of a connection to germany?

Just i like Germany. Everyone have a other contry from his national country where he want to live and like something who he want to see in his country. Germany is very developed and i like his sportist. I don`t like everything in Germany but I amazed by the development at large in Germany. Of course i don`t worship this country just like his. Like a german sportist nature. And in Bulgaria we haven`t maby sportist and i should be to choose by who`s country sportist to am. I choose Germany :)

Well they play nice football nowadays, don't they. I'm a fan of the german mannschaft myself, but that's hardly surprising since I'm german and football is the number 1 sport here by far. During the time of the european cup or the world cup the whole of germany goes nuts!!

In Bulgaria too. Futboll is sport number one. This is disgusting because in the sports news time is separates during more than other sport together.
I watch then them during Worl cup 2010. They were amazing especially Özil. This team is very young and have a great future. I hope they will win World Cuo in 2014. :bounce:

Well thats why we a here. They are just great. Love them

Exactly.

Why??

Bacause i love tennis player who go to net. I like moderate agressive game. Mayer and Bachinger have that game. Plus Bachinger is young and i will can to track all his career like a Dimitrov! :bounce:

I watch them sometimes during olympics, but other than that I'm not really into that sport. The german team is somewhat successful these days, or do I confuse it with another sport?

Last year in European games they win most golden medal. This year in the World cup they don`t have a good presented, but Olympic games are coming. we hope for better presented.

What's with Sebastina Vettel? I like him a lot, he seems like a fun guy

I`m for Fenando Alonso. I don`t like a Vettel but he is very big champion.

Yeah I forgot her. Germany in biathlon is one by legends. Hope for 3 gold medal for Neuner in Olympic games. This will be a crazy and very deservedly!!!

If you want to study in germany you should try to lear a bit of german. Most of the time the lectures are in german. There are some international ones that are in english, but that's clearly a minority. But you are still young, enough time to learn another language

Ok! Thank you for information. :)

Not like this album. Many ballads in her. I don`t like Beyonce ballads. For me her voice is for pop-dancing songs. I like this ballads - When I Fall in Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfAb0gNPy6s).... Songs like a that make me incredible. Enchantment and beauty!!! :hearts::hearts::hearts:
My favourites Beyonce song is Why Don't You Love Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QczgvUDskk0&ob=av2e) - In this song haven`t thing by hip-hop. I don`t like Beyonce because she in her song have many parts from Hip-Hop and RnB.
Good song is Who Run The World whit good rhythm and melody bur his song is very feministic... I`m not a girl and i don`t like a text. But promotion for this album was a very good. Live performances were excellent. Especially this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNg9mTiFDq8 :)
Good work by Beyonce but i don`t like this album.
I wait for Madonna album this year. ;)

You like Fever Ray, therefore you're awesome :D. I prefer The Knife though, but Karin has a fantastic voice either way. I also agree that Beyoncé has a good voice but that her songs aren't that great.

I love German athletes too, and everything coming from Germany has more chance to interest me than any other country, so I understand you. No real reason either, my father loves the country and the people and he passed his passion to me I guess. His grand mother was German but I'm not sure it has anything to do with it . Germans just are a great people who have a fascinating culture and they are amongst the people I love the most to discuss with. I work in a place where loads of people from many countries come and the Germans are always the ones making an effort to speak French and they're just very polite and nice - always smiling and never mad at you for things that are out of control (I work at a lost and found and some people blame me because THEY lost something ). All Germans probably aren't like that, but still... I love them !

 Thank you. Yeah Karin have a fantastic voice. I listen fist on MTV. I am her fan since I heard her voice in `What Else Is There ?`. After this I watched her video in Youtube. I was fascinated by her song, e specially by `When I Grow Up`. I like too her new song - `The Wolf`- but i want new album this year!!! I love her song and Fever Ray!

Yesss What Else Is There is one of my all time favourite songs. I'm not sure about Iamamiwhoami... what I heard on youtube was very random. I like random stuff but that was too much! Do you have songs to recommend me, perhaps?

And in Canada we're *supposed* to speak both French and English, but bilinguism doesn't work. Maybe I'm bitter because I'm part of the minority but it only goes one way. If someone from Toronto visits Montréal, I'll have to speak to him in English. If I visit Toronto, I'll have to speak English there too. French is an official language just as much as English, but we get spit on day after day. Yet, during international events, our Governement brags about how Canada has two official languages while some Ministers can't even speak French when they don't have a paper to read in front of them . It's really insulting to tell you the truth.

I tend to say too much when I'm talking about that topic sorry .

Iamiwhoami is new group. They have a few song.... Everything started with promo videos in 2009. Non.

Yes we have our own TV stations and we produce our own TV shows and movies, and every international movie is translated in "our" French. Everything here is in French and having a sign only in English is illegal. Even videogames that don't have a translated version can't be sold here. Also, unless you are born to an English family it's illegal to go to high school in English. We need strict rules if we want to survive as a community. After all, we're about 7 millions in a sea of around 350 millions English speakers. You can read more about that on wikipedia (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charta_der_franz%C3%B6sischen_Sprache) if you're interested.

"Habs" is just a nickname for the team. An English analyst thought that the H in the logo meant "Habitants" (it means hockey in fact), so he made up a word with it and now the fans are using it. We have numerous nicknames for the Canadiens, but they don't fit well in a chant  (le Tricolore, la Sainte-Flanelle, le Bleu-Blanc-Rouge, etc).

Okay thanks for explaining, I do like "Y". I'll have to listen to the other songs :).
I can't say I like all of Fever Ray's songs, but the good ones are interesting enough for me to keep following the project :).

It would be good if people respected both languages. I mean, my mother can't understand English, and like 90% of the English-Canadians wouldn't be able to hold a conversation in French. That's why I think it doesn't work...
But you were born in Bulgaria, so you already know one more language than people born in English-speaking countries :). And you can add Turkish to that!

You can read more about that on wikipedia (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charta_der_franz%C3%B6sischen_Sprachehttp://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charta_der_franz%C3%B6sischen_Sprache) if you're interested.

Wow, I didn't know any of that. I had no idea there was, like, a movement to keep Quebec's special status and culture alive like that. Very cool. :yeah: I once saw a documentary about Quebec where they showed a native American village where they were like, "Yeah, we do the whole Indian thing for the tourists, but really we consider ourselves French" which I was amazed by.

As a hockey fan I know the H stands for hockey. I actually meant counterintuitive because "go" is an English word. ;) And it was a joke.

Non.

:wavey:

It would be good if people respected both languages. I mean, my mother can't understand English, and like 90% of the English-Canadians wouldn't be able to hold a conversation in French. That's why I think it doesn't work...
But you were born in Bulgaria, so you already know one more language than people born in English-speaking countries :). And you can add Turkish to that!

It's very nice to talk multiple languages... I speak 3, the third is spanish, I would love to learn russian but it's too hard to learn on your own so I've been tucking Ukrainian for like 5-6 months now and I've reached very far since I can read and understand articles etc... I stopped though need to take back.

I don't know much of Canada to be honest, I'd love to speak about it but I can't. It's never a country to be honest I've payed close attention to because it's kind of confused with France... IDK the fact of the proximity, bilinguality etc...

Once we had a very popular singer called Natasha St-Pier in France, I think she was from Québec, I really liked her.

Yes we almost became a country in 1995, but the yes lost by less than 1% :(. Now I don't think it'll happen, even if it's one of my dearest wishes.
I didn't know that about Native Americans. It's sad because the image we have of them is very negative. I can't say I have a high opinion of them either, but I know it's not right... We stole their lands so it's normal that they have a special status, but I'd wish they'd stop complaining and would try to merge with the community. Not forgeting their culture, just live with us. Because for now most of them live in protected areas and they're having a lot of social problems there.

It's hard to tell when someone tells a joke on a forum!! We don't say "Allez" here when we cheer for someone or when we practice sports, which is why I find it weird when French players say that.
It's very nice that you are a hockey fan! What's your favourite team? Do you follow the NHL much?

...... J'étais pas trop sûre si tu étais un homme non plus LOL.

I agree about languages but most of them are really hard. I tried learning German, but I'll have to take a lot more courses to be good. I'd just wish I was able to talk in the past, really .

Canada's history is not very interesting when you compare it to other countries... so maybe just be interested in what we're doing NOW .

Yes Natasha St-Pier comes from here, but her music is too soft for our tastes I think. And the fact that she now sings with a French accent has made her unpopular here. As far as I'm concerned, you can keep her and we'll keep Isabelle Boulay :hearts:.

Thanks for the interest guys no one usually seems to give a shit about what's going on up in the North .

It's hard to tell when someone tells a joke on a forum!!

I can be pretty dry sometimes. People often don't even get me IRL and definitely not on forums. But I've just never been much of a smiley abuser.

We don't say "Allez" here when we cheer for someone or when we practice sports, which is why I find it weird when French players say that.

That's a fun fact. I had no idea.

It's very nice that you are a hockey fan! What's your favourite team? Do you follow the NHL much?

I'm a Sharks fan. I normally support teams from Seattle, but they don't have an NHL team and so the Bay Area is next in my fave line (except in basketball, where Dirk is next in my fave line :worship:).
I used to watch almost every Sharks game a couple of years ago, but I just don't have the time anymore, so I just do what I can and catch as many games as possible.

In the DEL I support my home team, the Ice Tigers. :bounce:

Okay thanks for explaining, I do like "Y". I'll have to listen to the other songs .
I can't say I like all of Fever Ray's songs, but the good ones are interesting enough for me to keep following the project .

Ok, I don`t like very "The Wolf" by Fever Ray and U-1+U-2 by Iamamiwhoami. Yes you are absolutely right in second part.

My mum know Russian, Bulgarian and Turkish. Before in schools they should to learn Russians, because we were first friend with Russia.
I know Bulgarian and Turkish but when I went to other country they don`t to must me. I will learn German in 10th class (I`m now 8th class). And this will be good. But I want to know Arabic. This is very interesting language. BTW I know to read Arabic...
Whether is Canada patchy of pieces? English regions and French Regions? This is not good to one country, I think?

@ Banditoo- How old are you? lol. Yes, Minnesota is okay, but it can get really cold and people here are extremely reserved. Wow that's pretty short  but never too early to start -- to be honest I've been hearing tennis since probably the early 2000's or something but it never really took my mind... when I discovered Maria I was 17 and she really captivated me because of you know why. :oh:

Then I became a fan of Nicole because I thought she would have been the next Maria, sadly (I miss her so much :sobbing:), Maria then got hurt in 2008 and I wasn't watching or planning to watch any tennis when I discovered Victoria, then Sabine and in RG 2009 I literally had a crush on Sorana the 3rd love of my life.

And finally Julia.

Ah, yes, I forget you are from Germany so it's true that many of you must have started watching since from the cradle. Julia herself had said in an ITW that she had started watching Stuttgart since baby.

I can't really speak of before and I might sound biased but I think tennis right now is interesting in a different manner. Personally I just love the sport more than any other, I've been in women's tennis for like 5 years now and I just don't see myself completely stop following the game.

That said in the new crop of girls 93, 94, I've seen nobody other than Kristina Mladenovic and Coco Vandeweghe for who I could become passionate about but we'll see.

I believe statistically it's quite the opposite, at least for Turks. From what I've heard, the more liberal Turks stay in Turkey and the more conservative, lower educated Turks from the countryside migrate. That was named as one of the reasons why Erdogan came to Germany to campaign for his reelection: because there are so many conservative Turks here who would vote for him. And I believe they did just that.

Doesn't really matter though, it's not the Muslims' fault no one here wants kids anymore and Germany is now the country with the least children in Europe, percentage wise. That's all on us. And I count myself to those people because I'd rather cut my left foot off than have a kid.

Meh. Whatever happens happens. It's not like we can really change it now.

So they really are trying to spread Allah's word over God's  Well, at least they're peaceful this time. I still hope that reason will win soon though. It has to. There is also a relatively reliabile (i.e. idealistic) prediction here (http://www.peoplesworld.org/scientists-suggest-reason-for-religion-s-decline/).

It's a good thing that people there don't want children anymore. It shows that you people are civilised. Overpopulation is our biggest issue and the ones that reproduce more are uneducated or very poor people. And they carry the sign of the beast

Hello all!

I just signed up for this board. I was looking for a place where I can discuss or exchange views about julia görges, since I am a really big fan of her. Especially after the last results I somehow felt a strong urge to communicate to other fans, because this recent rollercoaster ride concerning her matches is really - how to say - "exhausting". Right now I'm still gutted about the yesterday's result, for I really thought she had finally found her game on hardcourt.. :( I have still some hope, though. I always have ;)

Anyway, maybe I could tell you how I became a fan of her. It started in 2008 when I watched tv and channel hopped through the channels. Suddenly, I was struck by the beauty of a young woman and you can guess who she was ;) It was an interview on the channel NDR which you still can find on the internet, I think. I could barely concentrate on what they talked about, for I was a little bit mesmerized by those stunning turquoise eyes.. Anyway, somewhere at the end of that interview I figured out that she was an upcoming tennis player. From this point on I began to follow her career, which basically meant that I sporadically checked her results ;) So, I confess, at that time I was more a fan of her than of her tennis.
That changed in 2010 when I realized that she has indeed huge potential. I don't have to go into detail here as you all know about her strenghts (big fh, serve, etc.). As she reached the semifinal in parlermo and than finally won her first tournament in gastein, I finally became the huge jule fan that I am still today. From then on, she also got me interested in tennis in general. I watched other players and their playing styles and compared them to julias and so on.

Ok, that was quite a long post, sorry for that :)

If we make a parallel with real life and tennis maybe we will understand more thing for tennis at large.
Serve - First impression in everywhere. How we start to communicating. How we start to working. How we start to whiting comments or something else. In tennis serve is first chance to attack, but maybe in real life serve is first impression or how you start something?
Winner - Success or maybe progress in something. Advancement in work... Absolutely right thing in one comment. Good way for communicate...
UE - Thing whose you are inflict to yourself. Wrong decision inflicted by wrong reasoning, wrong matching, wrong choice and many other thing. As I saw this problem is human problem not personality problem, because this problem - we can't to be on 100% every second of our life - is from birth... In tennis reasons can will be a movement, balance, mentally problem, injury, wrong choice on hit or many other thing.
FE - This errors are inflicted by other people. Here is very hard to make a parallel.Because in real life you must be do something for to do something to you. In tennis forced errors are inflicted by opponent. She can be play smart or have a great serve or maybe very diffident thing by opponent game to difficulted you. Maybe ball-bashing or pushing or maybe something else...

I think if we develop this parallel we will understand more tennis. Because we are lived more then to watched tennis. This will help our to understand Julia problem better. What do you think?

Come on, man, you talk like an astrologist, not like an astronomer :) Tennis is a real life event, in which same sort of things happen as in real life. There's no need for a parallel. Don't be mad at me, it is just how I see it :)

What I did to improve my English back in the day was watching The Sopranos and Tarantino movies in English without subtitles for a whole summer. It's how I ended up with an American accent. It's also why I curse so much.

In Europe we have everything you have in the US. Especially TV Shows. Some countries are faster to adopt US shows, like Poland is always very quick, other countries like Germany take a more cautious approach and usually wait a couple of seasons to see if the show is successful in the States.

Though I have seen the German version of The Class, which never even had a full season's worth of episodes.

Dude, what actually makes a human being beautiful and watchable ?
It`s not the perfect, stereotype form.
It`s the individual collection of his blemish, and what is under the surface.;)

I'll reply here, because there is already a lot of talk on the pictures thread :)

Well, it seems that beauty is about symmetry and averageness, but also about the differences between sexes (sexual dimorphism; if you want to read more, click here (http://sirl.stanford.edu/~bob/teaching/pdf/arth202/Rhodes_AnnRevPsychol06.pdf)). Those things I mentioned are just some noise to her beauty and she is attractive probably because she has a good symmetry and because she is very feminine. And some other things, like sparkling blue eyes and especially her skin (I say that because a lot of people I asked mentioned that and I also heard some commentators; also, something that caught me eye from the start; she doesn't naturally have a darker complexion, but tan catches better on her). Anyway, definitely not the collection of blemishes

When we say "under the surface" we actually mean behaviour, which, indeed, can be the sexiest thing about a person and can render the others quite irrelevant (within certain limits I suppose). That is why I asked people who don't watch tennis. There was the possibility that we like her because of tennis. My mother thinks Franny is beautiful (maybe more beautiful than Julia) and Agassi married Steffi

Julia is not a classic beauty who would be obvious to everyone.

As I said, the people I asked consider her to be attractive, ranging from pretty to very beautiful. They were only about ten though. I need to ask more and I'll try to do that. But, from these "preliminary results", it seems she is attractive to everyone :)

I think at Dispekers marvelous late night show on the picture thread you just favored most, where she smiles all over the face. What makes her beautiful there, definitely comes from " under the surface".
We have to clear the expression "beauty", to avoid misunderstandings. Hard to do in some words.
Human beauty is basically connected with motion, and emotion.
Imo, Forms and symetrics are aesthetic, physical attributes, but are only a part of the substance in the "beauty question".

Why should it come from the inside? It is just a smile that produces an attractive shape. Of course, it comes from under the surface, i.e. from the neurons that activate the muscles :)

Yes, beauty is connected to motion, that's why everybody looks different in different contexts, but there are scientific experiments that try to get to the fundamentals of attractiveness. And those are the things I mentioned.

The first things that you notice are the physical attributes. After that, you tend to make inferences about personality traits based on face expression and the perceived attractiveness changes once you get to know the person. So maybe the best word is attractiveness, not beauty. What I wanted to know is if she's attractive, on a first sight, to people who don't know anything about her and it seems she is. Did I manage to make things clearer now? :)

Say, is it a good idea to make an "how attractive is Julia" thread?

It's weird that you speak about symmetry... this is a very greek-like concept... in the greek conception of architecture... they had that pathology for symmetry - one side had to be as perfect as the other because according to their thoughts, it was pleasing to eye, it was beautiful so they would search for this quest of absolute symmetry to content themselves...

http://www.hotelsorbonne.com/pics/big/Churchmadeleine.jpg

This above is typical of a greek architecture from the doric order VIth. before J.C. (Don't ask me the name of the monument I just googled it quickly to show :rolls:) - another Greek architectural example in the modern doric order is the Lincoln memorial in Washington...

---

So Julia is symmetric as these ? :oh: Just teasing... :spit:

 I mean what makes Julia beautiful is very difficult to define, symmetry but can a face be symmetrically perfect ? If yes then how do you exclude these infinite little details that we do not see with the eye from the concept of symmetry ? How is it defined that symmetry is a crowd pleaser ?

I think to state beauty is about symmetry is really far catched because in the fashion industry for example dissymmetrical faces are often what you'll see and will be having greater success in the high fashion than and all the Julia-like faces soft, tender, poetic, well defined would be relegated to the second league of commercial modeling... because they are crowd pleaser.

It's weird but if nonetheless I asked what is a crowd pleasing woman and how it is defined that she is crowd pleasing everyone would be answering the same thing (a girl who doesn't have disproportions, tall, slim etc...) but if I asked them where does this come from, I'm sure they would go blank.

IDK maybe I'm weird but I also can find beauty into a dissymmetrical face too whereas many many wouldn't or at least very few...

Over the past years in history, many great minds confronted themselves to defining beauty Leibniz, Crousaz, St. Augustin, Wolff etc... and even Diderot but few brought reasonable answers [...] Leibniz for example would say that beauty is perfection but would be unable to define the word perfection...

Wolff would define things we liked a beautiful and things we disliked as ugly - saying that things that are beautiful have such a perfection that it generates certain type of pleasure that would have us like it but he only seems to be defining the cognitive side of beauty or the perceptive side not the intrinsic reason of why we find things beautiful...

So finally, what is beauty ? St. Augustin stated that beauty is a concept in which you need to find variety, order, proportions and regularity nice but if an object doesn't dispose of variety what is it ugly ? In much as things can not be one and perfect thus have all these characteristics then is everything ugly on earth ?

---

Just like how you sectarized beauty with St. Augustin saying that it is about symmetry and averageness so what about girls who do not have these characteristics ? How are they placed on the ladder of beauty ?

Johnny, it is not me that speaks about symmetry, but science, that is, tested hypotheses over the last about three decades.

No, a face cannot be symmetrically perfect (we can make computer simulations though), but the more symmetric, the more attractive. Maybe there are some models with pronounced facial asymmetry, but it doesn't matter, because in the industry they focus more on the rest of the body. However, if you look at Victoria's Secret's models, their faces have a really good symmetry. So do attractive actresses, like Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, etc. Below you have a good comparison.

http://wallcrow.com/images/S/Steffi%20Graf%20Or%20Stefanie%20Maria%20Graf/Steffi%20Graf%20Or%20Stefanie%20Maria%20Graf-0093.jpg http://www.dlcache.indiatimes.com/imageserve/0cRs0iKfJc9ep/x350.jpg

And another one:

http://im.in.com/connect/images/profile/b_profile4/Svetlana_Kuznetsova_300.jpg http://en.anaivanovic.eu/images/news/Ana-Ivanovic-sonriente-por-su-triunfo.jpg

If you were to measure the horizontal lenght of their faces and calculate the middle horizontal point, you would see that, for Steffi and Sveta, there would be "more of the face" on one side compared to the other, the right side, as viewed from here, being larger. Julia probably has the most symmetric face, with some advantage over Ana. Then you can look at the symmetry of the mouth, nose and eyes placement, the width/height ratio and the distance between the eyes. There is no wonder Julia is so attractive :)

But symmetry is only part of the story. There's also averageness involved (and you need computer simulation for that and it can be counterintuitive at first). You can't say much about that just by looking faces. Your brain is programmed to rapidly compute that (and symmetry) and give the verdict. Probably Julia's and Ana's are more closer to average.

Then you have sexual dimorphism. Overall, Julia and Ana look more feminine than Steffi and Sveta, with smaller chins and lower face areas. Steffi and Sveta also have feminine traits, like pretty full lips (Franny would an example of good symmetry, but masculine traits which make her not really attractive).

There are also other things, but a very important trait is the dark complexion Julia and Ana have compared to the other two, especially Steffi. It is really something that hits you in the eye -- smooth, tanned skin.

As JD pointed out, attractiveness is also related to motion and emotion. Julia and Ana look pretty good also in different perspective and with different emotions. I think Julia is most beautiful when tired and serious, since she looked so amazing in Madrid. Also, Ana looks better with makeup, while Julia doesn't. And we can go and on :)

There is no wonder the Greeks were obssesed with perfect shapes. It's what turned them on

IDK maybe I'm weird but I also can find beauty into a dissymmetrical face too whereas many many wouldn't or at least very few...

Not weird. Despite the fact that she is not very pretty, Steffi is liked by many more people than Julia. Agassi, quite a pretty guy, even married her. Behavior can often be the sexiest thing about a person or his/her "soul" (i.e., personality traits). Attitude also matters a lot, a sexy attitude, for example, being... sexier  Other people might be attracted by "nerdiness", dominance, shyness etc.

I asked those people (friends) to rate Julia to see if she's attractive on the first sight, without the effect of behavior. And she is. Actually, I, for one, first saw her, thought what a babe, and only after that watched her play and got mesmerized by her tennis too. So I should have known she is objectively attractive.

As for the philosophers, again, forget them  They may have hit the nail in the head here and there, but now we have science, we don't need opinions. We are primates and, like every other living creature, everything that we are and do serves the purposes of survival and reproduction. We like symmetry, averageness, smooth skin etc. because they signal "good genes" in a potential mate. The opposite traits are associated with poor health and other bad stuff. So we would like our offspring to inherit the better genes. I want Julia, not Steffi  Agassi wanted Steffi basically because she was GOAT. That also signals very good genes, but not through mere physical aspect, but through athleticism, endurance and good cognitive skills (i.e., quality brain).

Of course, if I didn't make myself clear, you can always read that article. I think it's easy to understand if you're not accustomed to the terminology.

First I would like to share a program with you called anaface here (http://www.anaface.com/), it could interest you.

On the symmetrical part though I was just teasing a bit  but I think there's a differentiation to make... in high fashion though, the castors watch both the face and body as one there's not a total difference made between the 2... because models who do high fashion are sometimes also brought to make editorials, advertisements, magazine covers... that's why the face is very important...

In modeling you have the commercial section (Victoria's secret etc...), the high fashion or prêt-à-porter and the couture, haute couture - each section requires some specific attributes that you might not find in another - a commercial model would never be able to do couture and certainly vice-versa...

Here's a crop of girls from the high fashion in opposition to the Victoria's secret models... there's a flagrant difference between both group of girls I posted let's see if you find it...

Then you can look at the symmetry of the mouth, nose and eyes placement, the width/height ratio and the distance between the eyes. There is no wonder Julia is so attractive. :)

Ok, so coming from this, how would you judge the features of Magdalena Frackowiak 5th picture starting from the first in the high fashion models ?

We like symmetry, averageness, smooth skin etc. because they signal "good genes" in a potential mate. The opposite traits are associated with poor health and other bad stuff. So we would like our offspring to inherit the better genes.

Well you see this is why I asked these questions, see below... we gotta admit though that the society have really automated certain things into a good crop of people nowadays...

I mean this is the thing, beauty is sectarized by subjectivity and projected on other people as "we" and every thing that does not fall into that pre-fabricated thing is rejected... yet, there are guys who do not fall into that mold and fall in love with girls who are far from being "signals of good genes"... take a guy who profoundly falls in love with a handicapped girl...

What did he understand that we didn't yet he's guy like us ? Was he able to understand better than any other that a woman whatever the envelop she carries is still (or still can be a carrier of good genes) ? Is he more clairvoyant than another fellow dude ?

It's funny that you say we are primates (which is fact) yet one of our intrinsic and inherent characteristic is to be able to think and the way you said that was like we are like the Bonobo's or Pan Paniscus who can not control our envies and need to sex for whatever need we want ---> this is what the Bonobo's do when they want something in their society.

It's weird but if nonetheless I asked what is a crowd pleasing woman and how it is defined that she is crowd pleasing everyone would be answering the same thing (a girl who doesn't have disproportions, tall, slim etc...) [...]

Nice one, thanks! I put Julia's face in there and I got pretty good results and, as I thought, almost perfect horizontal symmetry. Nose a little too big, yes, but the funniest part was that her nose it too big relative to her years  That's, of course, because I set the ear points too close. They were under her hair :)

I see. I didn't know that, I only heard here and there that it's not necessarily about the face.

As for those pictures, none of them seems to have bad symmetry. There are some things that make some of them prettier than others. Magdalena Frackowiak seems to have the most pronounced assymetry from that picture, but I looked at other pictures and she is also has good symmetry  What was your point? :)

I think I answered to your other questions. In the end, yes, what you find attractive will be subjective. But by isolating them in experiments, researchers found these objective traits that people find attractive regardless of gender, culture, experience and other subjective factors.

And the guy that falls for the handicapped girl finds her attractive for her behavior, attitude, personality traits or maybe other things we don't know. Don't you think Agassi could have another (actuall many other) more good looking woman? :) Stephen Hawking had also had two wives and three children! Picasso, a short and unattractive man, had two wives, four children and a lot of mistresses. The list can go on. Smart is sexy :)

If we are prmates, it doesn't mean that we can't have better self-control. Anyway, it must have not been so developed in our ancestors, because the whole idea with self-control is to delay a reward because attaining to it right now would be actually less rewarding than later or it would have very bad side effects. If you meet Julia, you would want to at least try to kiss her. However, she won't approve and you might even get punished by security. It definitely won't get you into her tennis skirt  But, if you manage to talk to her, get to know eachother, and show her what a great man you are (courtship), that might do the trick. If our cousin primates can increase their reproductive succes by rape or other forceful means, of course they won't want to have anything to do with self-control :) Nevertheless, in controlled setting, they can show better self-control too.

The differences are there, of course, and they are based both on genes (bigger frontal lobe, for example) and environment (education, culture). The points is that, whatever an organism does, the purpose (by no means a conscious one) is to live and carry its genes to the next generation.

Well I hope you put the best picture possible to have the most accurate result  at least this program is based on mathematical measures and is supposed to be objective any ways more than we are.

As for those pictures, none of them seems to have bad symmetry. There are some things that make some of them prettier than others. Magdalena Frackowiak seems to have the most pronounced assymetry from that picture, but I looked at other pictures and she is also has good symmetry  What was your point? :)

You said that Julia had perfect symmetry, I just wanted to know your thoughts on Magda who from my point of view has the most well proportioned and symmetrical face I've ever seen on a girl...

You could trace a line in the middle of her face and still knowing that nothing can not be totally one you'd still have the impression that both sides a totally similar... it's scary... this is greek architecture.

Or he could be simply be finding attractiveness in her, physical that is - for a guy to fall for a physically challenged lady at the extent of making children with at their own risks must be something non spiritual that attracts him to her...

Researches make experiments on a small group of people to come up with theories, no problem - we're only just 6 billion on earth... it always makes me cringe when in france researches come to say "Les français préfèrent..." - uhm, I'm french and I don't specifically fall in the mold.

That's funny... Anyways the Bonobo's do not rape, in fact their micro-society, it's just like an exchange of money - you want a banana, then you get sex for payment and vice-versa, it's perfectly sane in the sense that both parties approve the proceedings (approve is a meh word because eventually monkeys don't think ).

I put this one (http://www.julia-goerges.com/uploads/tx_cfamooflow/julia_goerges_fotoshooting_melbourne_9.jpg). It was not the most accurate result, but you can clearly see the symmetry anyway and the program confirmed it :)

Well, yes, maybe it can still be physical. It matters where the hadicap is located. I wouldn't mind Julia in a wheelchair

The groups may be small, but the results have been replicated time and time again and they are very powerful, sometimes very close to 100%. Also, manipulating the variables and getting the expected results is pretty good evidence. If you turn an asymmetrical face into a symmetrical one with a computer program and people start liking it more (or if you make faces more average, or if you emphasize gender-specific traits), what is the logical conclusion? :) You may not fall into a certain category when you hear the results of a study, but it is pretty impossible not to like symmetry, averageness and sexual dimorphism.

They don't? Good for them then. Actually, I have no idea what they do, but rape is very predominant in other species (not that it is quite rare in ours). Well, in a way we don't think either, but things get too complicated here :) You could say that they don't think verbally.

Oh boy, nothing against you Banditoo but once I opened the video and saw Guetta... I'm exhausted with the dude and exhausted with the eletro-pop music we've been having the radio's now for like the last million years it seems now...

The music of the 2000's were SO much more better until 2007-2008.

Personally my favorite artists are girls like Anya Marina, Lykke Li etc... there's even that guy I absolutely adore and signs something Micheal Jackson like in Sweden...

Am I weird because I love listening to this music too : The Shanghai Restoration Project - "Introduction (1936)" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57F79MYXD9o&list=FL9FUH91rCMe2FYCxdAA1aNw&index=26)... - there's also that weird video clip : Robert - Personne (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT3-cMb9fmE&feature=autoplay&list=FL9FUH91rCMe2FYCxdAA1aNw&playnext=1). :haha:

This is just the Aria and the first 6 variations. There are 30 variations and the Aria is played a the beginning and at the end- but by the end it sounds like a different song because of what has come before it.

Those a cappella groups are also quite a lot of fun as well. They use no instruments and make all the sounds with their voices. You have to be in the mood to put up with audiences laughing and finding it funny a lot though, since a lot of them are college groups in the US who use a lot of humour. Sometimes there are songs whose original version I don't especially like that are really fun to listen to when covered by an a cappella group. Sometimes a cappella groups take a few seconds at the beginning of the song to get into the rhythm but many are really good once they get into the swing of the song.

No one cited Debussy, Claire de Lune (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNoSB1E7tYE) - this is an ABSOLUTE genius of a masterpiece. :worship:

That is indeed a beautiful and well-known song.

I don't specifically like Opera, but I do like songs which are beautiful. So, beautiful singing, or beautiful piano playing, things like that. I suppose I do especially like beautiful female singing. However it does depend on my mood.

However, occasionally, I do quite like to enjoy music that has less of a deep meaning. Actually, the kind of music I listen to is far more varied than the list I posted indicates. For instance, because of my interest in Anime and manga as well as the Japanese language I also listen to a fair amount of Japanese pop. They often use pop music for the themes in animes like One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Gintama, Inuyasha, k-on, Love Hina, Azumanga Daioh, Lucky Star, Hikaru no go, Initial D etc. As an example I give this video, which someone made and posted on youtube- it's a compilation of this person's favourite anime openings. It includes many of the anime I know, as well as many I do not know well, but it also misses out several that I have watched. I tend to watch anime in the Japanese with subtitles, for the educational value, because the original is Japanese (and therefore things are always lost in translation) and because I think the Japanese voice actors are usually better. They have a culture in which voice acting is a serious profession, unlike in America where they tend to just use actors to portray voices. (Although some English dubs are done well).

Naturally the pop music in the animes is not quite as beautiful as the original music which is part of films such as Totoro, Spirited Away, etc, but I still like a lot of it.

GCxQMLPVyUc

There are also other Japanese groups I listen to or watch. For instance, Perfume:

Ci8REzfzMHY

Also, sometimes I listen to music for it's nostalgic value. For instance, I sometimes listen to a NZ band called Goldenhorse, whom I used to listen to when I was at high school. Their lead singer was Kirsten Morrell- I think they have split now and Kirsty has been trying a solo career. Note the Irirangi Te Motu- NZ On Air sign in the corner near the beginning (although it is obsured by the sign saying Goldenhorse) and again at the end. This is a very common thing to see on NZ television, a sign given in both Maori and English indicating that the artist is a NZer.

zUiWVLRdvTE

C4fSO1pgrC8

When it comes to more modern French music, I don't know that much, but I did really like France Gall's Ella Elle l'a. There are quite a few covers by other artists now, but none have the feeling of the original. Actually, I'll admit that I only came across this song because of the cover by Alizée, who perhaps is better known for her looks and dancing than meaningful songs.

I read it - interesting, but does Julia really have a big problem with choking?

We cannot actually know what's happening to her, but there's a big chance it's choking (i.e., performing bad under pressure). It doesn't necessarily apply to only a game/important moment, it can apply to a whole match. Of course, there are other things involved, like technique and fitness, but I think most of us would agree it's mostly a mental issue.

But hey, her hair is consistent now

Anyway, the beauty of the article was that it reviews studies that have actually measured the effects of choking on movement. Gray identifies four types of effects: on movement variability (a pro athlete should have a minimum variability from stroke to stroke), on multi-joint coordination (which tends to have less variation under pressure and it seems to be inconsistent with the first effect at first), on movement economy (muscle activity is increased --they become rigid-- and it can lead to the first two effects) and on motor-control strategy (basically, under pressure, you start thinking too much about how you are going to hit; in the article a very nice experiment is described, in which pro golfers start hitting like beginners when they focus on how to do it -- a good stroke is automatic).

I read it - interesting, but does Julia really have a big problem with choking?

We should perhaps not call it choking in the TF sense of the word, but, as Skoo says simply performing in a sub-optimal way in general when under match pressure. This is a common difficulty for almost all athletes. Some players overcome this easily and others have great difficulty. All great players eventually overcome this one way or another.

It is correct that often the effect is measurable and consistent, and can be identified by a coach. A player can also identify it and then try to work towards correcting it. It can be difficult though. For instance, a certain (hypothetical) player may find that under pressure suddenly their toss becomes inaccurate, with a tendency to go to the right. They may also notice that when they try to adjust the toss they tend to overcompensate, and the toss becomes jerky and tends to go too far left and back.

At this point the player knows what to work on, at least, but it's still a very difficult situation to solve. Two methods are possible, and may suit different athletes. For some, simply teaching them to be in a different mind set can help. But for others, it actually may not be possible to make the technique happen "automatically" under pressure, because they may find that even if they let their mind go blank, some part of the technique is going wrong. If they are totally blank and loose but still making a mistake then the mistake will probably become a very consistent one. I.e. toss always goes right, never anywhere else. It will not be hard for the player to identify the symptom- toss consistently goes too far right- but the cause may be puzzling, and may be caused by a change of technique under pressure which the player has difficulty sensing.

For these athletes, it may be necessary to focus on one particular aspect of the technique. As the article indicates, the coach needs to help here. You have to try to understand what, exactly, is changing in the technique under pressure to make the toss go wrong. Perhaps a certain muscle is tensing more than it should. Possibly the eyes are looking in a different place than normal when under pressure. Maybe the player is more afraid to look up under pressure, or is focussing more on the opponent with the eyes than the toss/serve targets.

I wouldn't agree that it's always about thinking too much or even focussing too much on what you are doing. But it does have to do with mental state. Some players can solve it by stopping themselves by thinking. Others will need to relax enough to produce just one consistent repeating error, then identify the cause and solve it.

Yes, it is surely not always about the object of focus. Sometimes it can be simply luck, I suppose, especially when you have a high-risk game :) Only one little thing to add: too much doesn't belong here and I was wrong to say thinking too much. You just have to think about how to do it or at least that's what studies show. When you learn to perform a task, you also think about how to perform it, but after a while it becomes automatic and thinking again about how to perform it is actually a regression to that beginner level. I have no experience in sports, but I suppose it's pretty much like riding a bike :)

Yes, if it were a monastery school I would ask God to forgive me for that sinful image, not say it out loud

I mean poor Julia is because I think she doesn't have much fun, she's too obsessed with getting better, and it is a wrong strategy. It seems tennis succes is proportional to the amount of fun you have being a player :) And it makes sense.
