By the way, why is Petra Rohanová seeded as No 1 although Anett Kontaveit has higher juniors ranking (and she has slightly more points from singles than Petra)?

They used the Tennis Europe "overall" rankings, which adds together points from Tennis Europe events, ITF juniors, and Pro tournaments. Petra played on the winning U16 team at the Winter Cups this year, which gave her 200 Tennis Europe points and put her ahead of Anett :)

Full rankings list is here: http://te.tournamentsoftware.com/ranking/category.aspx?rid=79&category=526

Thanks a lot. :) However, Petra lost both to Zablontskaya and Putintseva at the Winter Cup, so those 200 points are somewhat questionable, in my view. :)

It's in Moscow and there are no top Russian juniors taking part (Khomracheva, Putintseva, Kan) ...

Do they play only in singles, or also in doubles?

You mean that Sorribes is gonna beat Estelle Cascino in the QF? :help: Well, everybody can dream but this is very delusional, to say the least.

Cascino has a lot more experience, she has very good results and of course she will be favourite, but i don't think she will be unbeatable to Sorribes.
She played very few tournaments in the past, but being younger she had victories against very good players like Vekic or Korashvilli

I don´t claim that she can´t beat Cascino, but the original poster made it sound as if she had a very easy draw to the semifinal (or even the final). That´s obviously not true. ;)

jj74
Jul 18th, 2011, 09:17 PM
Well, i think it's almost impossible to have an easy draw to semis in an european championship, and even less for an unseeded player like Sara

Well, it seems that Jose is far more positive than i am. I think she has a chance to reach semis, but semis are very far right now, and she has good players on her way

Jose.
Jul 18th, 2011, 09:42 PM
Exactly I said good chance, doesn't mean she is going to do it and doesn't even mean she is favorite to do it.

I think Sorribes can be a surprise, she has played much less tournaments then most of the girls and she has been quite sucessful in the ones she played.

Sorribes always was a good player, she compete in the nations challenge u12 and won all matches of the qualys and the final draws (some very good wins against players like Ostapenko, Vekic and Korashvilli). Last year she was injured and couldn't play Tarbes, in the european championship she lost in third round against Lushkova (the lack of competition really afected her chances on big tournaments).
She has pro ranking, and won the only junior tournament she played this year (in singles and doubles). And she is on fire lately, she won spanish u16 and u18 campionships recently (she defeated last years u16 champion Silvia García in the u18 final).
And yes, she won Maia last year, spanish player do very well on Maia lately (Julia Payola won this year)

¿Entonces hay luz al final del túnel? ¿Me puedo emocionar un poco? :p

Let's hope she keeps doing well, she seems like a good player and it's exciting having a young spanish player to follow :)

Well, if she keeps improving like she is doing lately, i think she'll do well. It's a little too soon to know (and the other spanish promising players are even younger).

She will need to do her best tomorrow, because Rohanova is really good (i really like her game)

Well, Sara Sorribes Tormo is actually quite young, no wonder she hasn't played as many juniors tournaments. She'll be just 15 in October. Hopefully she'll get to play in pro events (Internationals and such) next year in Spain (at least in qualis).
