Slovak Republic tops the list in Fed Cup Nations ranking. The ITF has launched a new Fed Cup Nations Ranking to allow nations to see how they compare with other nations in the competition.New Fed Cup champion nation Slovak Republic head the table with 1125 points more than Spain whom they beat in last weekend s 2002 Final.

The position of the top 16 nations in the Fed Cup Nations Ranking reflects their World Group status.Slovenia and Colombia are in 12th and 14th position respectively. Colombia is returning to the 2003 World Group after a nine year absence while relatively new Fed Cup nation Slovenia joins the elite group for the first time. The 2003 World Group first round begins on 26-27 April.

The ITF Fed Cup Nations Ranking will be published following every Fed Cup World Group round. After each round, points from the same round for three previous years will be discounted as per the description on the second page of this document.

The ITF Fed Cup Nations Ranking will be used as one of the primary criteria for seeding at all levels of the Fed Cup competition. The ITF s Fed Cup Committee will also use the following criteria when making their seeding decision: the ranking of players likely to participate;experience on different surfaces; experience in doubles and any other pertinent criteria. All nations competing in Fed Cup from the elite World Group through to Zonal Groups I and II will be ranked.

Slovenia and Columbia are new. I know Slovenia has two quality players (Srebotnik, Pisnik) but who is Columbia's top player?

TheBoiledEgg

Columbia has Fabiola Zuluaga and Catalina Castano

Ah quite right, Zuluaga is the "big name" player that Columbia has. Funny, I always thought she played for Argentina!

Welcome, Eggy ;) - your russian girls should be winning the Fed Cup soon. I thought they had a great chance last year (2001) but the Belgians were too strong, but they should get one in the near future :)

But will Elena D or Lina play for Russia? Many things can happen until April 2003. so don't be so sure.

We are ahead of Ecuador and Tajikistan. Looking around there is quite obvious why Norway is such a backyard country in Tennis, despite all the money and training facilities. :(

Uzbekistan on the other hand is up and up and up:p

Watch up USA, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden or whatever!:bounce:

Ummmm still kinda new to this group LOL

Aussie Aussie Aussie...Oi Oi Oi (all embarrassed now) GL to all the Aussie Team....am sure the inspirational win over the Netherlands will do them well....but bring back Nicole Bradke (nee Provis) what a true inspiration she was for Aussie Fed Cup teams :-)

But in the end...gl to every team next year...it's great to see a international team event still so strong with monies and sponsorship that are in this game.

So many of the men see Davis Cup as irrelevant....but the ladies seem to rule the ways in team tennis :-)

Go Ausssssiiiieeeessss!!!!! :-)
