looks like Aga got herself a pretty good draw :)

her opponent tomorrow haa only one top 15 win in her career; and that opponent made like 40+ UEs; so it would be a huge dissapointment if she doesn't pull through.

Aga is blogging from Stanford this week :)

Monday, July 25, 2011

Hi everyone. Last year I blogged from Madrid, now Stanford :)

Let me catch you up on what I've been up to since Wimbledon... I didn't do well at Wimbledon and didn't play so many matches there, so I only took a few days off before I started practicing again. I actually went back home for two weeks. Even when I'm practicing three times a day there it's so nice to be there - I always enjoy being home. Two weeks at home is a lot for a tennis player!

I was really looking forward to coming back to Stanford. I like this tournament a lot. It's a pretty calm city, not too busy, so you can just practice and rest and play your matches. There are a lot of practice courts so you never have to fight with other players for them :) The hotel is in the city too so you can go for a walk when you want. I also had a good time and did very well here last year...

I'm also really happy to have Ula here with me. It's the greatest thing we're playing the same tournament and doing well. Today we played at the same time so we couldn't watch each other's matches, but it's always good to have a sister, someone to practice with... and she's family too. We have fun in the evening too, actually we go to a certain place a bit too much...

The Cheesecake Factory is a restaurant chain that has great food and so many different kinds of cheesecake for dessert... Can you imagine we tried almost every kind of cheesecake there during Indian Wells and Miami? Well except one - peanut butter... because I don't really like peanut butter! It's very close to the hotel, which is dangerous, because we could end up going there every night. We went yesterday. Maybe we'll try to cut down to every second night... Anyway my favorite is white chocolate coconut, oh my God it's unbelievable. Also, the Oreo one is very good. Those are my two favorites. I also like their meals too - orange chicken, cashew spicy chicken and crispy spicy beef ;)

I had my first round match today too. I played Zahlavova Strycova and it was tough, but I played well. It was my first hardcourt match after the grass and clay season. The first match of any tournament is always tough, especially here in these hot conditions, but I did well. Two sets. I'm ready to go.

Have a good night and talk to you all tomorrow :)

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Hello again everyone!

It was pretty much a day off today. I practiced once, that was enough. Then I watched my sister play. There wasn't much to do other than that! Right now I'm relaxing and watching some episodes of Dexter. I'm only in the first season but I like it very much. I've also been watching some House, I'm on the sixth season of that. It's sooo good... I love it! Most people don't like him because he's mean or something, but I think it's funny and just a great show.

Ula played a good match today. She has played a lot this week and she had doubles today too so it's good she won in two sets.

I've also been sitting in the shade, working on the tan lines on my feet! I'll be getting ready for tomorrow too, I have my second round match against Chang. It will be a tough one but I'm looking forward to it.

Talk to you all again tomorrow :)

Aga

You haven't been tweeting much lately - we love interacting with you, will you start tweeting again soon? Utkarsh, India
Hi Utkarsh. I haven't had too much time lately but it's always fun and I hope to get back soon! I know I haven't been doing it as much as others...

You're one of the rare top players without a clothing sponsor... will you be getting one anytime soon? Marcin, Poland
Good question... I think soon, probably starting next year.

What is your favorite surface and tournament? Oliwia
For surfaces, I like hardcourt but I also really like grass. My favorite tournaments are the Australian Open and Indian Wells - actually I think Indian Wells is probably my favorite. They keep getting better and now it's the best.

Just got back from watching the match in the stands at Stanford:
-Aga started well, then her first serve went...
-Second set Aga looked top 50 at best.
-Kai-Chen Chang hits the return SO hard and flat amazing that Aga even got them back..
-The toilet break was amazing for her she was so calm when she and Ula came out.
*My 3rd time watching Aga play in person and all I can say is that HER DROPSHOTS ARE FUKCING AMAZING.

Wednesday, July 27, 2011

Hello again everyone :)

Well, today wasn't my best tennis, but I was able to beat Chang, 64 36 60. I didn't know how she played beforehand and she was playing well, hitting the ball hard and deep. I was up 1-0, 40-0 in the second set then got into a little bit of trouble when she came back and won that set, but I played much better and more aggressively in the third. I felt much better in my first match. Today the conditions were hot and the ball was flying pretty fast, and of course it's worse when you play someone you've never played. I hadn't even played her in doubles. But I'm happy I won and I'm just ready for my next match now!

After warming up with Ula this morning I waited a long time to go on the court! There were some long, tough matches before me, and I listened to almost all the songs on my iPod while I waited. It's better to have a match go 63 62 before you and you go on - that's perfect. And especially here I'm still feeling jetlagged, even though I've been here for a week. But at least it wasn't a night match. I'd probably be asleep... but you've got to take your butt and get up!

Normally if I'm waiting I also like playing cards. I don't have anyone to play with today but my coach is coming in tonight, in a few hours, so we'll play this week for sure. It's pretty fun. I like poker. But I have been having fun with my sister until now. We're doing fine. Now time for some of your questions :)

Aga

A lot of players are superstitious about looking at the draws. Do you look at them or do you avoid them? Leo
I don't really look at the draws. For example today, I know who I'm playing next from the press :) It's going to be either Sam or Sabine. They're both very good players and are both playing very well. I have nothing to lose. I hope it'll be a good match against whichever one - I don't know who will win between them...

What is your favorite way to do your nails? April
I am doing a pretty new thing lately, it's called Cracking Nail Polish. You put normal nail polish on then put the cracking one on top, and it cracks by itself. It's very cool. I just did mine like that yesterday. I change my nails every four days, and it depends on how many matches I play too. I'm obsessed with my nails. There's no chance of finding a picture of me without a manicure!

Not convincing, but still Aga into Stanford QF!

but I played much better and more aggressively in the third.

Thank God you played more aggressively. That`s the only way to win. Pushing gets you nowhere. :p

BTW just saw Aga and Sabine never played before, shocked it will be their first meeting.

Hello everybody! It wasn't a long day for me today - I just worked out, then I practiced my serve with my coach, then had a massage... that's it really, I'm pretty much done for today. We'll just go back to the hotel and have a good dinner, not sure where... maybe Cheesecake Factory :)

I'll do some more of your fan questions now... keep them coming!

Aga

What do you think needs to happen to push young people to play tennis in Poland, or make the sport more popular? Zbyszek, Poland
This is a good question, actually I hear this question very often. Tennis is not as popular in Poland as it here in the US, for example, but I think now more kids are playing tennis there. Tennis is for everyone and I really think kids should play! But it's hard to say exactly what it will take to make it more popular...

Do you read Harry Potter? Are you happy or sad about the last one? Anne, Australia
I haven't read it but I've seen the movies, but I haven't seen the last one! So I cannot really say anything about the end. But I do like the movies.

What's your favorite kind of ice cream? Ken
Definitely cookies and cream!

Will you and Ula be playing doubles anytime soon? Alex, USA
It's hard to say, but for sure we're going to try. Now I'm playing with Daniela, we've been playing since the beginning of the year. We'll try though.

What is your favorite color for your nails? Bartek and Sam
Red or pink.

Did you enjoy doing the Drink Milk ads in Poland? Michal, Poland
Yes, actually it was fun! I spent a lot of hours on court for the commercials and the posters, but it was a good thing!

What was the funniest situation you've had on court? Tomek, Poland
Always a tough question. There have been so many of them. For sure a couple of nice shots... I don't know if you've seen Federer hitting the winner between the legs, but I did the same thing - it wasn't on a TV court though. But I did it!

I dont remember too much. Elena tried to drop shot Aga a lot but it never worked. She was getting very frustrated with her errors(especially bh) She was moving fine but was getting pushed around more when Elena won her first game and started to get more confident. Coach came out I think before Elena served for the set of at 6-5. And after the match she went straight to an outer court. She was working on her serve mostly. It was for maybe 10 mins.

Sorry..I dont remember all :(

She should retire from Toronto and rest... Or cancel New Haven. She has entered all the tournaments until the US Open, while she will be able to earn many points at the end of the season when she won't have anything to defend.

Polish commentator told that Wiktorowski told him she would retire if the pain was that big to make it hard to Aga to play and that everything is under control.
Toronto and Cincinnati are P5 tournaments which are almost mandatory to Aga's ranking so better for her to play and at least win the early rounds (well Vesnina and Hradecka should be cakes for Aga if she's healthy enough).

Jerem
Aug 8th, 2011, 12:56 AM

QF vs. Vika :scared: :scared: :scared:

According to you, there's always a bad draw for Aga. :spit:
It's the easiest to justify her loss with the bad draw, get over it, dude!

Not right. Quallies list was done 3 weeks ago while Ula was around 130 in the rankings.

According to this interview, Robert was with sisters in Stanford but after some match he left. :oh:
I guess it was after Chang-Aga or Morita-Ula match. :p He wasn't there when Aga played Sabine.

Congrats, Aga! She was absolutely brilliant! :worship:

Andrea played great too. It was a very close, entertaining match :yeah:

Fantastic high-quality tennis. Many long rallies and amazing points in this match

Aga seemed really exhausted. She must be tired in her SF

It took a long time for Aga to warm up and then Samantha's serve didn't really let her do too much in 2nd set so she was left with no energy in 3rd and it shown. Well, I guess she will play another few matches in Cincinnati and then have a proper rest before US Open, sounds smart. Benesova next:

2006 Luxembourg 16 Hard (I) A.RADWANSKA 6-3 6-2
2008 Wimbledon 128 Grass (O) A.RADWANSKA 6-3 6-0
2011 Indian Wells 64 Hard (O) A.RADWANSKA 7-6(5) 6-4

was curious how many points Aga must defend from last year and...

Cincinnati 125 (R3)
US Open 100 (R2)
Tokyo 225 (QF)
Beijing 5 (R1)

only 355!

in 2009 she took 1170 points from those 4 tournaments :)

time for Aga to reach 3rd round again in NY! :help:

2006 R2 (as Q) l.t. Golovin
2007 R4 l.t. Peer
2008 R4 l.t. Venus
2009 R2 l.t. Kirilenko
2010 R2 l.t. Peng
2011 ??? time for a QF! :p (or even more!)

Aga withdrew from Cincinnati. Smart decision because she`s injured. US Open is most important :p

Aug 15th, 2011, 01:07 AM
Now, will she play at New Haven... That's the question. If she's fit after a week of rest, why not. If she's still a little bit tired, forget it and get a flight to New York. New Haven is no longer needed since she has won at last a fifth title ;)

Get to New Haven QF for 120 points, tank it and get another 3/4 days of rest before US Open. Sound like a good idea! Withdrawing wouldn't be that bad either, but I highly doubt it.

I want her to play NH now. Unless that arm really bothers her.
