I do a two syllable grunt a la Ivanovic.

Only after mindless unforced errors or when I realise that I made a stupid shot :o

During the rallies only after 2 hours of play!

Not really a scream, its a high pitched wail and it continues after the shot.

That's basically what Sharapova does. Why do you feel the need to wail? Does it hurt when you hit the tennis ball or something? It's ridiculous IMO. You don't hear boxers, even female ones squeal when they throw a punch and there's more force put into that along with more physical pain.

Its like in martial arts when you are told to shout/scream when you do an attack. Its not something you do naturally, but the theory is that you will release more energy if you do it. I would not argue with sporting theory developed over centuries of experience.

I wouldnt be able to face anyone in the club if I grunted. Its such an embarassing thing.

I used to grunt actually when I was too much into the game and we were playing already some hours:lol: I simply couldnīt play after 2-3 hours without grunting, and as childs we were playing a lot of tennis during holidays:lol: You are getting much more exhausted without some "good breathing" and Iīm sure most of you would be grunting too in a 3 setter in +30 even when you wouldnīt play a profi match:p As I was getting older and "stronger" then I stopped, but while serving Iīm still...not grunting...itīs something like blowing...also in 3rd set when Iīm too exhausted...and I donīt play a lot nowadays (actually I even donīt remember when I played last match...sweet childhood :awww:) so Iīm getting exhausted too early.

Only if my opponent did. Then I would copy them, with a Schiavone/Bovina-like delay. Especially after drop volleys.

I've never screamed unless I was doing it as a joke. Then I go Larcher de Brito. I don't hit hard enough to justify grunting.

I grunt a bit when matches start to get tough and I'm really exherting a lot of energy. It's not really a scream more an exhale/grunt and its not that loud. Maybe a bit like Pat Rafter.

I'm actually putting my body weight into my shots when I do. I was at one point going to play for college but then decided against it, so I understand the whole club players shouldn't really grunt. I had a groin injury for an entire season and all I could do is play like Monica, and suddenly I found myself doing the male version of her grunt because I had to swing as hard as I could so that I wasn't running all over the place. In normal circumstances, it's a breath.

I do love the Lindsay Davenport unforced error scream though, and I'll do that on occasion.

Sometimes I grunt during serves, or when I'm trying to unsuccessfully smash the ball.

Yeah, that's the next piece I want to do. Like I said, the method I'm using isn't good at all! Haha. So yes, I'm going to update this file and provide some detail on how to use the plist and file-derived arrays.

I do a Wozniacki-style 'grunt' - as in, I always loudly inhale right before I hit the ball, then exhale upon contact. I find my footwork/timing is messed up if I don't do that.

I don't scream but I do exhale when I hit the ball now, I use to just hold my breath until I've hit the ball but now I let it out at the hitting point. I found that it helped me alot, most of the time when I hit those balls they are more powerful and much more controlled. It timed them much better, I guess it's because I'm less "tight". I'm tryin to do it more regularly as it's not natural to me. That being said I doubt it makes a loud noise, maybe if you'Re really next to me yu'd hear soemthing but nothin annyoing or embarassing lol

Never, seriously I would make a total fool of myself. Besides (I've tried it once on a private tennis court on vacation) it only serves to make my strokes more uncontrollable so it doesn't work for me.

No, grunting has no use to me. Never even tried it.

When I make UEs I make the Lena D. noise :rolls:

I usually hit with guys so I feel the need to put a bit extra on my shots so sometimes I make noise. But nothing obnoxious like the country club women who come and hit on Saturday mornings

Usually when I get on 3rd set on easy matches that stretch, in TBs, when the match is long and I'm getting tired. Or my ankle hurts.

Ahahaha, sometimes I go with something like 'I' - whenever it's a tougher or a more important point, I tend to grunt like that, it helps me.
