Singles Results, First Round

Daria Afanasyeva def. [1]Ziyi Zianzhi 7/5, 6/3
Ziyi has hit a rough patch, for certain, as Daria upsets the top ranked player in two sets.

[WC]Regla Torres def. [5]Fleri Hingisafrilia 6/4, 7/5
Fleri has also hit a tough patch lately and it wasn't any better against a re-invigorated Regla.

[8]Kathleen Pryde-Degman def. Anastasia Nemayeva 6/4, 6/3
Another straight set match today, but we thought this one would be closer as both players have had success recently.

[Q]Caroline Smith def. Pamela Bowden 1/6, 7/6(3), 6/1
The depression is surely over as Caroline takes out the Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion and the #2 player in the world.

[3]Jane Wong def. Jookkarae Mensarb 6/1, 7/6(4)
Jook made the semifinals of Wimbledon but fell to clay court goddess Jane in two sets.

[Q]Chantal Chan def. [7]Candela Sanchez 6/3, 7/6(2)
Poor Candy still hasn't recovered from the Wimbledon fiasco and falls to the qualifier.

[6][WC]Clair McKrain def. Berenika Wojnarowska 0/6, 6/2, 6/4
Clair had to get a wild card to be here as a late entry and makes good use of it, despite a horrid first set.

[2]Nthamangela Mbangu def. Cristina-Elena Vladimirescu 7/5, 1/6, 6/2
All of the Wimbledon semifinalists here (as Cristina was a finalist) did not transition well as another bites the dust.

Doubles Results, First Round

[5]Hingisafrilia/Pryde-Degman def. Afanasyeva/A. Benedetti 4/6, 7/5, 7/6(4)
Kath helps Fleri regroup as the edge out Daria and Annalisa.

Gaga-Maduga/Tenesova def. [6]Bowden/Mbangu 6/2, 6/4
Pamela was just too tired here as Brenda and Aveta defeat her and Nthama in straight sets.

[7]Mensarb/Smith def. Sanchez/Torres 3/6, 7/5, 7/5
The Spanish power team couldn't defeat Jook and Caroline today.

[8]Wickmayer/Wojnarowska def. Gallet/Mayou 6/2, 7/5
Yanina and Berenika are back to their winning ways after a bad Wimbledon.

Former champion Regla Torres beats Hingisafrilia

http://wpcontent.answcdn.com/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6a/NataliePortmanTIFFSept10.jpg/170px-NataliePortmanTIFFSept10.jpg

The pair are good ones off the court but today an out of form Fleir Hingisafrilia went down to a very motivated former champion Regla Torres 6-4 7-5 in Budapest.

Torres, coming off a last 16 appearance at Wimbledon was playing some of her best clay court tennis hitting the lines and moving her opponent around.

"I'm definitely confident. I think I can do well here," Torres said. She will face Daria Afanasyeva next who took out world No. 1 Ziyi Zianzhi.

So we caught up with Yanina Wickmayer at Budapest

Reporter : Hi Yanina, I know you have just finished your doubles match, where is Berenika?
Yanina : Oh, she is having a shower, she just need to take some after a match and I don't know how many time she would have a day.

Reporter : So you loss again in the first qualifying match.
Yanina : Yes, Just sad, but you know what I would tell you. At this moment, I want to focus on my double's match so it doesn;t harm me so much.

Reporter : Then you are happy with your doubles match, right?
Yanina : Yes, I mean playing in straight sets. Cool. Being the eighth seed or a seed is amazing. I never thought of being seeded so fast. I mean I just joined the tour about 2 to 3 months ago.

Reporter : So what's your feeling after lossing at the first round of Wimbledon.
Yanina : Sad, disappointed. I mean when I enter Wimbledon, I just got to three consecutive finals in three
tournament and won Birmingham and lossing at Roland Garros and Eastbourne, so I mean we are a hotpicks or sort of favourite, so I forced myself to do well, but it didn't work. I mean we just couldn't hold our nerves and didn't played well in some deciding and important point. So we loss in some sort of tight three sets. Too ambitious too, I mean we just want to do great, but I think I rised too fast, maybe let me have some losses and experience some downs or I will forget how to loss.

Reporter : Thanks for the interview, wish you the best in tomorrow's doubles match.
Yanina : Thanks

Regla Torres into first final in over two years

With a straight-set win over no. 8 seed Kathleen Pryde-Degman, Regla Torres is into another clay court tournament final. But one she hasn't been in for over two years.

The Spanish player won Charleston in 2009 and since then her game has fallen apart but after months of hard work on court, and a renewed motivation from a new coach, Torres is ready for her spotlight again.

In the final she will play surprise qualifier Chantal Chan. "I don't really know anything about her game but I think she will be tough. She's beaten a lot of players including top ranked players," Torres said.

Three Finals,Three Runner Ups
http://www.dhnet.be/pictures_news/art_70746.jpg
[Budapest, Hungary] Yanina Wickmayer and Berenika Wojnarowska have entered the doubles finals after beating the second seed Nemayeva/Perez in straight sets tie breaks, but they lost today to the forth seed Chan/Vladimirescu in a drama three set match. The bagel each other in the first two sets and have an extrermly tight deciding sets with a tie break. After 2 hours and 17 minutes, the Romanian and Hong Kongese pair won in 06 60 76(5) and sucessfully revenged after lossing at the Semi-Final of Roland Garros this year.

'It was obviously disappointing, I and Berenika have entered three finals but never won a title, it's frastratating but I can do nothing. I mean they are very experienced players and I can't do much. It's was just diasppointment, congrats them anyway.' Yanina said at the post match media conference. She and Berenika have entered three doubles finals this year, making their debutance in Roland Garros, Eastbourne and then came to this clay court tournament. Yanina actually did won a title at Birmingham with Emilia, but have never won a title with Berenika. Maybe they are just too nervous for taking their first title, but we can actually see many opportunities for them. Yanina have won 15 matches in doubles(including the title at ITF India) in two months and lost only 4 matches since she made her apperance on FWTT tour on May. That was just an amzing stats. 'I hope we will get our first title very soon and win a lot of tournaments. I won;t leave Berenika unless she dumped me' Yanina smiled. We all hope that she and Berenika will play better and have a better luck next time.

Regla Torres's speech during the trophy presentation

Budapest Tournament Director: "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the stage your champion for 2011 the returning champ from three years ago, Regla Torres!"

Regla Torres: "Thank you, thank you so much. Wow (laughs with tears) I can't believe I'm here. Firstly big congrats to Chantal. She did so well to reach the final after qualifying. It's been such a long time since I've felt this way. I've always loved playing here in Budapest. I would like to thank the crowd for supporting me. I would like to thank the tournament organisers for putting up such a great tournament and everyone from the ball kids to the umpires who helped make this event happen. You know, just a few weeks ago, I didn't think I could win back-to-back matches, let alone a tournament. It's been over two years since I won a tournament and this win is just so special to me. I would like to thank my coach, family and friends on tour especially Ruflina Taliamanosoko and Ziyi Zianzhi. People who never stopped believing in me and always provided words of support during the tough times. Thank you all and I will see you all next year."
