Zamboni Jul 5th, 2011, 02:30 PM Even when she sucks her game and technique are such a joy to watch:inlove: (but step it up:p) Zamboni Jul 5th, 2011, 02:30 PM Btw, who is Estrella Cabeza Candela? And why has Dentoni lost 3 and 1 to her? Who ARE these people? Young(ish) Spaniard on the rise. Been playing quite ok this year, the result is not surprising at all to me ;) chmath Jul 5th, 2011, 02:31 PM ^Thx, I've never seen her in a WTA event, never heard of her actually. I've seen Dentoni in the past. Mitten Kitten Jul 5th, 2011, 02:33 PM Flavia is indeed amazing to watch  but did she forget that Rogowska is not a top 10 player? chmath Jul 5th, 2011, 02:34 PM ^ Seriously, clay MUST be her worst surface. She NEEDS pace, like at Wimbledon or a hard-court. It makes her game so much more effective. Every time she's trying to generate pace, the ball is sailing into the stands...But, she is a joy to watch indeed ;-) Mitten Kitten Jul 5th, 2011, 02:38 PM and she used to be a clay courter :rolls: Mitten Kitten Jul 5th, 2011, 02:39 PM ace on 2nd serve :oh: FORZA SARITA Jul 5th, 2011, 02:40 PM Young(ish) Spaniard on the rise. Been playing quite ok this year, the result is not surprising at all to me ;) Estrella beat her 62 61 in Wimbly qualies too  chmath Jul 5th, 2011, 02:41 PM She's got some rhythm now. Good thing as well. I can only do so much roller-coastering. Wimby is still fresh in the memory bank and, really, all I care about is seeing her in a QF or SF at the USO. Because that's where she belongs. This battling it out in some holiday resort in Sweden on red clay is frustrating. Still fun to see, 'cause it's her, but, annoying nonetheless! Yeah, she's way too bitch today. Hopefully she's just on a bad day and next match she'll be more humble. FORZA SARITA Jul 11th, 2011, 05:46 PM funny how she doesn't complain about the most annoying thing so far :o that stupid alarm :fiery: macginity Jul 11th, 2011, 05:50 PM Well, it's over. Second set was way easier than the first. 6-4, 6-1. Zamboni Jul 11th, 2011, 05:51 PM funny how she doesn't complain about the most annoying thing so far :o that stupid alarm :fiery: ah so that was on the livestream indeed:lol: At least she won. Didn't get broken after that ridiculous start - didn't even face breakpoints. 2 times broken were already enough  chmath Jul 11th, 2011, 05:53 PM Wish she had that attitude vs. the Barbora last week. NOT cool dumping on a 20 year-old kid, even if that's one way to impose yourself on a match. Zamboni Jul 11th, 2011, 05:57 PM Wish she had that attitude vs. the Barbora last week. NOT cool dumping on a 20 year-old kid, even if that's one way to impose yourself on a match. Don't overreact on the Diva-attitude - she was mostly right, and early in the match there were shots called out that were in and Flavia simply conceded them (so did Grymalska one time). chmath Jul 11th, 2011, 06:06 PM Don't overreact on the Diva-attitude - she was mostly right, and early in the match there were shots called out that were in and Flavia simply conceded them (so did Grymalska one time). I watched the match Lin. And some of the line calls were indeed dubious. And yes, she had every right to be frustrated. I just didn't like some of what I saw. That's all. Just 'cause I love watching her play doesn't mean that I'm going to approve of everything she does...;) Zamboni Jul 11th, 2011, 06:10 PM I watched the match Lin. I'll side with Fran on this one and his earlier comment, the more I think about it, the more it dawns on me that perhaps there's also something else going on... There's healthy attitude, which is great to see and she's exhibited that in the past, and then, there is what I saw today. And I just didn't like it. And BECAUSE I like her, it's something I hope I don't see too much of going forward. Zamboni Jul 11th, 2011, 06:43 PM Ok. She's never exactly a ray of sunshine on court, but today? chmath Jul 11th, 2011, 06:56 PM So basically, we still agree ;) But what I disliked most was the general unhappiness I saw today. She's never exactly a ray of sunshine on court, but today? Absolutely. Ofc we agree, I know better than to disagree with you, anyway  (you know I love you a tonne, so goes without saying :hearts:). As for your second point, I really couldn't agree more. That's what I was alluding to in the previous comment. She doesn't 'seem' right. Think about the middle-eastern swing at the beginning of the year. She beat Kleybanova 2 and 0, ok, her tennis was flowing, but she was winking at people in the crowd, smiling as wide as a Cheshire cat, even when she lost to Sveta, she was having a right ol' chat with her before and after, it was 'all good'. Even that match against Caro, where she dropped 12 straight and had about 50 game points and converted none, her attitude was like 'I'm sticking with this'. I'm not a behavioural expert, and even if I was, I wouldn't even dream of applying my skills to her  But, IMO, there has to be something going on off-court. See, you get that with students all the time. You can very easily tell when someone's being affected by something that's not related to studies. The whole demeanor changes. And yes, she's always had attitude, and that makes her special, but the demeanor is not right. She's always been a graceful winner and loser, and today there was ZERO grace. Win or lose. And finally, what is worse in my opinion, and this is the totally scary part, is that she does not look 'at ease' on the court. She struggles. With herself. She overcame that in the second set today, after the break. But she showed NONE of that earlier in the year, or even at Wimby, even if she lost, the way she did. It was pure grit. And confidence in herself. Didn't see any of that in Bastad, and today was pure misery. She looked, as you very rightly put it, plain miserable... Zamboni Jul 11th, 2011, 07:05 PM Absolutely. Early in the year, I kept saying she looked like a girl in love, and while that was (partly) joking, she did have that happy, shining, 'airy' thing about her. Somewhere during the year (around the injury;)) she lost that all. Her game is gone (the whole new offensive gamestyle that went so well early in the year is down the drain) but most of all her spirit is gone :( At RG, but mostly in Rosmalen, I thought it was (coming) back because she looked so smiley off the court, she was chatting and having fun with the other players, there were smiles all around, etc. But it's not:shrug: *worried Linda* chmath Jul 11th, 2011, 07:11 PM ^ It could well be something to do with her personal life. Usually, demeanor issues are related directly to personal circumstances. I mean, remember that interview in Madrid? She was coming off the injury, lost R1, but she was spirited in her approach, talking about everyone and everything. Even Gisela's fiancee. !!! LOL She was HAPPY to be back on court. And even when she lost at RG, her answer was sarcastic 'more losses to come'. Did she look to you like she wanted to be there today? And she's as close to home as she'll ever be on the tour, surrounded I assume by as many of her friends as she could wish for... And Flavia is emotional - her personal life affects her tennis more than it does for most girls, IMO. But it's not like we're gonna hear about it, she ain't gonna be talking about whatever it is that might be bothering her. At least, after wednesday, when she's lost in the second round, she has a week and a half (or was it two weeks and a half?) off. chmath Jul 11th, 2011, 07:29 PM Yeah. Sad to say, but if it is Rezai she meets, if Aravane plays like she did against Polona in Bastad, she'll have a very tough time winning. Although you can ALWAYS count on Aravane to implode, even more so than with Flavia  Really, at this point, I don't even care if she wins or loses. I just want to see her being herself. That's all. Zamboni Jul 11th, 2011, 07:33 PM Sad to say, but if it is Rezai she meets, if Aravane plays like she did against Polona in Bastad, she'll have a very tough time winning.
